NBA not liking the idea of the event in Las Vegas...yet a few years ago they hold an All-Star game there when theres no actual team there...NBA has certainly sold out way more than it ever has.
Even as a young guy, listen to Mike talk.. hes a cool cat. So humble and intelligent. Compared to LeBron and the arrogant players today, who dont have half his game, and it puts it into context.
Jordan at this time would have won this game without too much trouble. He was already the best offensive and defensive player in the league during this period. Once he got the ball it would've been over. Individually he was several levels above the rest of the NBA and he was more concerned with winning a championship anyway. Still, I would've paid straight cash, homie to see this happen!!
but wait lets not forget that this was magics last season he was no where near what he was in his prime/ to be frank the lakers were old and that makes a huge difference/ also jordan never beat bird and his celtics or thomas and his pistons in their prime it was only till they got old that jordan able to get past them/ truly says whos better
@5042024 You made some great points 1) When Bird beat Jordan it was in his 2nd and 3rd yr as a pro and quite frankly his team was weak and they were the 8th seeds that went up against a great Boston team that would go to the Finals both of those years and won the title in 86. But when Jordan's teams came of age Boston wore out 90 Bost lost to NY in the first Rd, 91 they lost to Det in the semi's and 92 lost the Clev in the semi's while Chicago already made to the Finals of the east but u saw
@5042024 when they played in the regular season in the early 90's the Bulls were a better team. 2) Isiah teams were a yr after winning a back to back and they were still a force in the east true they had injuries, but thats part of the game. 3) Magic yeah well if he didn't get sick in 91 I think the Lakers would've made it back to the Finals and played the Bulls again, that year they got Sedell Threatt b4 Magic left so they would've really challenge the Bulls. But father time is undefeated..
@5042024 so you can't really blame Michaels teams for being better as he got a lil older. MJ to me is the best but Magic in Larry are up there as there as well because of their skills, and they're skills and mental level can rival MJ, thats why he respects them so much...
@5042024 jordan vs magic in '87 would've given magic a better shot. on another note, some kid on here argued that magic wasn't old in '91 when the bulls trounced the lakers. he was 31. they just don't seem to understand that 10 nba yrs for a guard in those days would definitely put you on the down side of your career. magic, scott, and worthy kept having those hamstring injuries. i guess the effects of an 11 yr track meet.
@edscottable - don't you love it when kids assume the 1991 Lakers/Magic were the same as the 85 or 87 squad? Diet, conditioning, and off season programs were still the dark ages in the 80s. Combine that with the fact Magic was 6'9" and played point guard on a fast break team that made it too the finals 8 previous years.
That's an awful lot of milege on that team. It was impressive they even lasted that long.
@Edd1e8 no heated swimming pool treadmills at the arena. team physician was just a notch above a cut man. sneakers heavy as bricks. no chef, just pizza delivery men and room service.
Jordan vs Magic...Jordan vs Bird...Magic vs Bird....None of them would stop the other. It would be offense at it's best & I would imagine if they played each other 10 times each they would each win their fair share.
After this thing failed to materialize, didn't Dr J and Kareem play one-on-one as retired players? I didn't get to see it for myself, but remember reports that Kareem beat him.
The friend who saw it mentioned that it was pretty "boring."
I don't know which MJ book it was, but in one of 'em he did talk about what a lose-lose situation this whole thing was for him. If he won, it was sort of a 'DUH, that's who he is' sort of thing. And if he had lost, he wouldn't have heard the end of it. That's the biggest reason he didn't want to do it. He had nothing to gain from it.
@popeyeisgood It fizzled. Apparently from Mikey, too many people tried to cash in on a thing that he and Magic would've wanted "creative control" over.
Ok...this first dunk they show in this video of MJ...is FAR BETTER than Blake Griffens dunk...Man I miss the old days...
