  • Notice how Connors cooled down Borg on the last serve. . . he took plenty of time to get it up there, a good way to assert the importance of the point, put a bit more fear into Borg, and cool down Borg's stroking.

  • @RondelayAOK Yeah Jimmy was always shrewd and delibarate in these moments. Have you seen my most recent upload on the 20 years anniversary edition of the 1991 Connors vs Pat McEnroe ?

  • @tenniscollector In my opinions, of all the matches that Bjorn Borg had ever played, those with Jimmy Connors were the most existing, because Connors had the greatest mental toughness for Borg and was the ONLY all-court, double-backhand Grand Slam champion in history against the baseliner king, Borg. Thanks for your upload. ☆☆☆☆☆

  • @tyoungos Thanks glad you liked the video. Can i just add that it should be noted Borg played this match with a thumb infection. He was competitive in the first set and around half of the second. Connors winning 6-4,6-2,6-2.

  • @tenniscollector If that was the case, then you need to watch Borg vs.Connors in the 1981 Wimbledon semi-final in which Borg lost the first 2 sets 0 – 6 and 4 – 6, and then won the next 3 sets 6 – 3, 6 – 0 and 6 - 4. Borg demonstrated the most important athletic ability -- the ability to come back from behind… the ability not to blow up when he was losing…when things look pretty bleak. He didn’t give up, didn’t fold, or didn’t get frustrated. He focused on the game. And win it he did!

  • Connors won MORE than a championship that night! He won a city! He won NEW YORK! When he said to the crowd after the trophy ceremony, "You may not always like me, but I like you," the crowd erupted and fell in love with the former bad boy! They've loved him ever since!

  • @vccstudents yes I well remember as a kid watching the match via satellite in australia. Hey stick around I will be uploading next week a two part video of the 1991 match vs Pat McEnroe. A most extraordinary first round match in US Open history. JIMMY CONNORS GREATEST HITS !!!!

  • This was the first US Open final played at the new USTA Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows.

  • Thanks let's hope someone out there has a better quality one they can upload (as in the whole match !) as my copy is "ghosting". Has this match been shown on the american tennis channel yet?

  • Loved that you put this on here. Awesome!
