@mrkitanai1 What? so anyone who's dream is wholly philanthropic is just an idiot? This kid is chasing his goddamn dream! everything he's wanted in life, and he works to get it. sure, charity is nice, but this is what everybody wants right? To overcome everything standing against them for a personal goal. their dream. the one and only thing they want. because goddamnit thats what dreams are for.
Let's put it this way - if Rudy had spent that same time and effort that he put into football, thousands of hours, into raising money, say, to build or support a soup kitchen, his legacy, his own sense of accomplishment, and his contribution to society would have been MUCH greater than getting into a game for one play.
I encourage people to read the book "Strengths Finder 2.0" by Tom Rath. He talks about "Rudy" in his book. While Rath expresses true admiration for Rudy's commitment and hard work, he questions the logic of what he did. Basically, he said that Rudy spent a TREMENDOUS amount of time and effort - thousands of hours, all for what? To be able to enter one, meaningless game for a few seconds?? Rath questions if this was time well spent.
On December 16, 2011 The Securities and Exchange Commission charged Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger and 12 others in a scheme to deceive investors into buying stock in his sports drink company. According to the SEC Ruettiger founded Rudy Nutrition to compete with Gatorade. Rudy Nutrition produced and sold modest amounts of a sports drink called “Rudy”. However, the company primarily served as a pump-and-dump scheme that occurred in 2008 and generated more than $11 million in illicit profits.
@Champsinthehouse09 How so Tebow was a star in college. Rudy had to work as hard as he possibly could just to get on the practice squad and dressed for one game.
In the movie at the end the qb ignored Dan Devines play and called his own; in reality Montana actually made up his own plays and ignored some of the ones the coach called......and they worked
There is one thing that cracked me up about the movie "Rudy". I think Rudy was the only young man to graduate college without ever going on a date. Sean Astin was a good looking kid. I assume the real Rudy, Daniel Ruettiger, must have dated when he was in college. He seemed very focused on football and academics. But a young man does not live on just pigskin and books.
a true story but very hollywooded up. the crowd never chanted rudy, he got to the QB at the same time as another guy for the sack and his teammates did not carry him off the field.
@doowoppingchainsawer you know i should kick your ass for being suck a fucking moron. what does it even have to do with my original comment? I said rudy was a great movie that made me cry. what in the fuck does that have to do with field of dreams? I didn't say it wasn't a great movie too. You fucking retard
@livingisaight You could try but, believe me, I'd crush you. But my comment wasn't you liking "Rudy" it was about you saying it was the best sports movie of all time which would be "Field of Dreams" or perhaps "Raging Bull."
@livingisaight no it is a fact. Rudy isn't the best sports movie. It is pretty good but over rated. He jumped on the pile at the end of the real game and they make it look like he got the sack. Funny.
He actually did get a sack on the last play on the last game of the season. 1:40 on the video.
Joe Montana, who was quarterback for Notre Dame back then, confirmed Rudy did make the sack, but he said all parting seniors get at least one play before the season was over. It's still impressive though.
Living life and moving forward.....I realize that this moment is nothing more than spectacular!!!! u can deny it...........................but we all wish for this moment!!!! Great job RUDY!!! Years later I still move in my life because of yours.
It's a shame Daniel Ruettiger never played in the NFL because he had more heart and determination than many of these so-called talented athletes on the field today.More importantly,he would never have whined and complained about not getting a big enough salary before proving his worth as a player.
The Quarter backs name was RUDY ALLEN!! He was our star QB in Columbus Ga at a little school known as Kendrick High school. the two are friends today!
@psu5148 I'm fairly certain Rudy was not offsides, but even so he started the tackle which means that he's credited for it. The other guy gets the assist
to that 10year old boy that night 30 years ago, sorry i am really sorry for what you went threw that memory haunt me to this day SO FUCK RODENY JUST A FAILURE, AND CORNBREAD WOW I WILL BLOW YOUR FUCKING HEAD OFF IF YOU WERE STANDING HERE RIGHT NOW THE HATE I HAVE FOR YOU RIDDLE ME THIS THAT NIGHT YOU DIED WHEN U LAID ON YOUR DEATHBED WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS WOW BEATING A KID WITH A CORD LEAVING MARKS ON HIM SUCH A COWARD YOU WERE AND RODNEY YOUR A BUM TOO I GOT BLOOD WALK OUT SMITH IS MY NAME
Its not fiction, some of it is. He did get the sack, he was carried off the field, he was shorter than most guys, it took him 2 years to get accepted into notredam. Just goes to show you want something that badly you'll get it. You put your mind to it, you'll get it. Even if it is just a moment or a sliver of it.
@americajn768 I wouldn't say that, movies like Saving Private Ryan are pretty emotional as well. Rudy is inspiring, no question about that, but SPR accurately illustrates the absolute determination, persistence and selflessness of the US troops that fought and died for their country and for freedom against the evils of the world at that time.
The "other" Rudy, the one who was sacked is my uncle. I remember being really young and watching the game that won Georgia Tech the National Championship with him and my dad, but I never even knew he played until a couple years after the movie came out and both Rudy's met. I've never seen the movie, but, I'm intrigued by the comments so I will. Crazy to see the role he played in a big story.
Well, the only thing inaccurate was that Rudy Allen is actually my cousin. He's my grandmother's brother's son, also named Rudy. I've always called him my "uncle" and did so out of habit. I didn't notice I actually typed that until your response. So my apologies there. If you don't believe me, that's fine lol. I just wanted to finally see the scene and felt like leaving a comment.

@greymoose1000 RIGHT AGAIN MY "TROJAN" BRO!! Just as no human being with a functioning brain would want to live in that godawful, backwoods, Mayberry prison known as *ubarn (AL) either -- except for crack whores, inbreds, and rednecks. Of course the operative word here is functioning brain.
@greymoose1000 YOU'RE RIGHT MY "TROJAN" BRO!!! And I hope you remember *ubarn (AL) is still the most backwoods and boring so-called college town in America!
This is absolutely one of the most underrated sports films of all time. It's the football version of Hoosiers - even used one of the same actors and the same music for some scenes. I cry at the end EVERY TIME, even if I pick up the movie near the end. This is one of the top 5 sports films of all time in my opinion. Hoosiers, Breaking Away, and Rudy... all Hoosier based classics!
The part that always gets me is when they show the people that helped him along the way cheering him on. And seeing his dad. Can you imagine how proud he must have felt? Ohhh man........... ='(
I just watch this movie on Encore....I'm 26 and every time I watch this movie I cry. This is by far the most underrated sports movie ever. Wonderful movie.

One of the very best underdog movies of all time. Two scenes that always seem to get me everytime when I watch the ending:
Charles Dutton fighting back tears, clapping when the Irish players hoist Rudy.
The final lines on the screen: "Since 1975 no other Notre Dame player has been carried off the field"
If you don't get emotional watching this, you may not be human.

FIGHT ON, BABY!

one of the greatest sports films of all time

This is absolutely one of the most underrated sports films of all time. It's the football version of Hoosiers - even used one of the same actors and the same music for some scenes. I cry at the end EVERY TIME, even if I pick up the movie near the end. This is one of the top 5 sports films of all time in my opinion. Hoosiers, Breaking Away, and Rudy... all Hoosier based classics!

The part that always gets me is when they show the people that helped him along the way cheering him on. And seeing his dad. Can you imagine how proud he must have felt? Ohhh man........... ='(
