I've just read the book, and it blew me away. Mostly because of this character.

I had a soft spot for him even when he was revealed as the "bad guy". I nearly cried when he diead, and especially when he found out that he'd killed his own father. It was so heartbreaking :'(

I watched this movie without a clue of the cast and when I saw the camerlengo in it, I was like..."this guy's worth putting off dinner until 9:00"

Then I found out..."THIS WAS THE GUY FROM STAR WARS?! I thought he was old because of the beard..."

The speech scene and the helicopter swept me off...my parents even said that they'd vote him Pope. =))

I read the book after...where they described Carlo as "surprisingly handsome"...the movie just made him scorching hot...

It made me a Ewan fan. <3

The names probably belong to a specific nationality. Maybe McKenna is more Irish and Ventresca is more Italian. They felt the need to change his nationality from the book coz the ideal actor for this role is Ewan McGregor and his scottish accent just wont fit in an italian character.

Me too! I was torn apart to see the savior of thousands of people who floated back alive was the mind behind the chaos. I would give my life for a savior like Camerlengo but murder is murder it isnt justified by anything. I wished the story kept Camerlengo as the pope, the ideal leader. Well thats the major twist in the story, my cousins reaction when he found out Camerlengo was the villian, he was awe strucked

I loved the camerlengo in the book and ewan mcgregor played the character flawlessly (although I was originally like "wtf? obi-wan kenobi as a camerlango?!"). Movie really jacked him up though. In the movie he sets himself on fire as an alternative to being arrested and interrogated.

In the novel he sets himself on fire in front of St. Peters Square, I think sacrificing himself as he believed Jesus did. I think the basic idea though in the end was that he was psychotic and the only way out after the Vatican found out what he had done and in terms of the novel, after he realized the mistake he had made, was by sending his sole to God. I think that was the intended idea anyway.

Indeed!! No one could've played the camerlengo better than Ewan Mcgregor, thats why in the movie the Camerlengo was turned Irish by nationality since Mcgregor has mild scottish by accent so it fits his role well. In the book the he was Italian. Director knew Ewan Mcgregor is the best for the role ^_^

I agree the Camerlengo was my favourite character (apart from Langdon) at the end I really felt sorry for for him. Why did the movie writers have to change his name we as audiences are not stupid. I have yet to see the movie but will next I only just finished reading Angels & Demons this morning I could not put the book down I wanted to see what happens next the ending for me cames as a shock.

Ewan McGregor is HOT and an excellent actor for the camerlengo. My only objection is that he did not express enough of Carlo's madness from the book. The movie took out his actual motive for killing the pope (dont want to spoil for those who didn't read it) and didn't express his inner conflict well enough. His last part was a bit too fast, and before we knew it, he just killed himself. Either way, he was a pretty good actor.I encourage ppl to read the book now. Its soo much more interesting
