@LoquaciousInkSlinger Oh yes! As I said to my mum the other day, all the Beatles in solo released successful albums, including Ringo and the Ringo (1973) album is just irresistible!
Love the Beatles, but this song is awful. Neither Paul nor John were as good without the other. By all accounts a breakup of the Beatles was inevitable (all things must pass, right?), but the chemistry those two shared took them to a higher level. George is the only one who seemed to really benefit artistically from the band's demise.
@livininomaha You're entitled to your opinion. I like it though. The solo stuff is in no way comparable to the band stuff. But it stands up on it's own well in my opinion. I like the solo stuff. When I read biographies of each of the band members, these songs are like little musical stories from their lives. This is a peek into Lennon's life after the break-up of the Beatles.
John loved Yoko and if the other lads had said, okay we'l take her in too, then there might have been a reunion during this period. I think George meant a group with out Paul though...The Beatles could never be without any of the four missing.
This was a fab track for Ringo to sing. The Beatles new how to get the best out of Ringo's voice, they built the songs around it, and this one proves it again. Fabulous
Recorded in L.A on March 13, 1973...when word got out that 3 Beatles were recording...all hell broke loose...Beatle reunion rumors began in earnest on this day...
But the only people who can get away with saying they're the greatest are 1. black athletes and 2. people who are so far away from being the greatest that absolutely no one sees them saying that as arrogant, but rather as cute and funny.
The musicians for this track were John Lennon, George Harrison, Klaus Voorman, Billy Preston, and Ringo. After they cut this, George was so excited about the renewed interplay between them that he suggested they form a band! John said he couldn't be in a band without Yoko, and that ended that....
@glawnow It sounds to me like that chapter on The Simpons where they form a secret society only without Homer (in this case without Paul)... Great it didn't happen
This has got to be Ringos' best album! He's got so many great people helping him on it, including his three best buddies from Liverpool! John helped him on this song, and it sounds like a Lennon song. Great!
@4string59 John didn't "help" him with the song, he WROTE it for Ringo. He plays guitar and sings with him on this version too! "And now I'm a man...a woman took me by the hand" is where John joins on vocals.... Awesome tune!!!!
I have always loved this song too, but I always believed it was more auto biographical for John, but he gave it to Ringo. There is a lot in interviews that show John was always the tortured genius who knew he had something going ...
The magic came together on this one...John, George & Ringo in 1973-Fantastic!!

Of course John wrote it for himself.
