  • hes a fucking god amongst composers. honestly game music has more feeling then movie music

  • He regards ff9 as his best work yet they spend almost no time on it...

  • I wish that Enix would have NEVER EVER bought Square because they threw all the best game makers away because they couldn't care less about Final Fantasy and wanted just easy money by selling the name. If Square-enix would be still Square, the fame of Final Fantasy would be even greater and Nobuo would be described as god by every single people!

  • I must have watched this video over 50 times by now.

  • And he tought it all himself. :O

  • Wow what buddy said at the end I agree with 100%. Nobuo Uematsu is the best at what he does. He is a genius.

  • We all adore you, Nobuo-san!

Shouldn't also forget the awesome Metal Gear soundtracks and another genius - Harry Gregson-Williams.

    And... Hans Zimmer! ))

  • nobuo is not working for sqare enix any more....=( the world as we know it has endend

  • They talked about the heavy song from FF X when it actually was hardly used, they should have talked about "To Zanarkand" and "Hymn of the Faith" both were beautiful songs...

  • FFXIII had me screaming "WHERE ARE YOU NOBUO!?!?!?!?!"

  • @BeautifulMawMusic Yeah. It wasn't BAD by any means, but if they're gonna butcher the battle system, at least leave ONE THING in that made us love FF in the first place.

  • lol i love when he said hey ive heard that song long ago.. wait i wrote it

  • i forget bout the first time i saw ff8 intro but i still get goosebumps now

  • Genius. Pure fucking genius. Seriously, I can't believe FF almost didn't happen! my life would be so entirely different :( FF7 and 8 have changed my life incredibly.. just the music gives me chills and sometimes even a tear to my eye. Don't judge lol but omg.. so good.

  • ATTN! PEOPLE PLEASE AT 6:25 WHATS THE SONG?!

  • @TheAdvocate619 Just buy the FF IX soundtrack. It's on there. It's actually a variation of FF IX's main theme song which is titled "Melodies of Life"

  • i would prefer to not associate him with FFX at all.

I see death metal as something only to make fun of.

That game is obnoxious with nothing to intellectually to appreciate.

To stand playing it I had to not level grind at all and try to come up with weird strategies.

The cut scenes give me a headache

  • @CaptainFussenpepper Fuck you. FFX was one of the best.

  • @rishino People are entitled to their opinions, there's no need to be rude. I really enjoy X but I happen to disagree with you about it being one of the best. The best were probably IV through IX. The soundtracks to those ones were the best too. (all my opinion only)

  • i used to tear at the beauty of his songs... we need the young composers of today to learn how to create that passion....

Nowadays its shitty, half-assed money making songs.

  • and the soundtrack to FFXIV is amazing now, shame about the game!

    Love the soundtrack though.

  • faye wong wait minute Xenogears main character is named Fei Fong Won what the fuck

  • hey guys whats the song at 6 25?????

Btw nobuos a genuius. THe only one or two that could compare is noriyuki asakura and jack wall

  • @TheAdvocate619 ff9 - melody of life

  • They barely mentioned FFX, and what about "To Zanarkand"? lolwut

  • #1 absolutley

  • Nobuo ALWAYS captures the intense mood. Awesome, hands down

  • I always get so teary eyed when I remember all the past Final Fantasy games.... I'm one of those babies that sits there at the end of the game and starts crying...

  • @Mirruchan AWWWWWW ya i cried when aeris died in 7, and when tidus and yuna first kissed in 10. Then again at the end of 10... Oh and when celes tries to kill herself in 6.

  • Nobuo Uematsu FTW

  • I want this man in Italy again !!!

  • It's Oh! My Goddess... but i wont hold it against them :p

  • Woo Go Nobuo Uematsu I Love you :)

  • This video sucks. Why do they make a big deal over the very very last battle of FFX when FFX is filled with more memorable songs. Why did they make a big deal over the opening scene to 8? The opening scene music sucked compaired to all the other songs in the game.

  • @StatuesBleedingGreen it is your own opinion isn't it what music piece you like?

  • So when is square going to release a traditional rpg with uematsu music instead of some new thing or some mmorpg

  • FF VIII is the best soundtrack ever. Waltz for the moon is just beautiful.

  • i say we rise cash to make him a full robot body so he will never die.

WE MUST NEVER LET HIM GO. IF WE DO GAMING WILL DIE.

  • nobuo uematsu is a genius... i hope that someday I get a chance to hear his music live

  • The final fantasy 7 soundtrack? there is no video game soundtrack in the WORLD that has sold more copies than the final fantasy 7 soundtrack

  • Love waltz for the moon

  • Love libber fatali

  • getting an erection if i hear ff8 intro

  • His music is timeless when ff fans here it they get goosebumps because his genius in music is burned into our memories.

  • I got GOOSEBUMPS too the first time I saw the ff8 intro!!! It was such an amazing opening...... *sniff* I miss that feeling. Games dont do that for me anymore....not even the ff-series :-((( only let downs since ff X.....

  • @redstarkid82 Best Intro to a game EVER

  • @redstarkid82 Play Lost Odyssey. He composed the score for that game.

  • In April next year I'm getting on a plane and flying to Sydney just too hear the Final Fantasy music Live.

I don't know if I'll be able to stop my self from crying when he steps up onto the stage ><

Now I know how those screaming fans feel when they see famous people D:

  • @AndrewMarron YOU LUCKY PUNK!! :)

  • Nobuo Uematsu is So Modest..... Kids are gonna be learning these tunes thousands of years from now....He is a modern Mozart..... Does he not know this?

  • I remember watching this

  • The 2 men responsible for ff's fame at 7:15

  • His music makes you want to write something epic, which is why it's such a good investment to have his soundtracks

  • Uematsu ftw

  • One-winged angel and Liberi Fatali. One-winged angel at the end of FF7 and right off the bat you get Liberi Fatali in FF8. 2 awesome musics back to back.

  • =O The ff9 segment was so short. It has some of the best music too.

  • nobuo uematsu FOREVER. FINAL FANTASY FOREVER NEVER ENDING!!! WOOT.

  • "Oh yeah, I wrote that music!"

    ...

  • VIII had a really good soundtrack

  • FF8 soundtrack is good still think 7 is better but still its good :D 9 is like 3rd

  • Ha, did that dumb fuck say "death metal"????!!!! What kind of shit is that to call any "rock" or "metal" song "death metal"?

  • nobuo is the fucking BOSS. it's lonely on top! definitely my favorite of all time.

  • When Nobuo retires, Square Enix is going to back into financial peril.

  • @Killoutoflove He already left Square Enix... if that's what you mean...

  • @WalnutPeanut

He left to form his own company and still does work for them.

  • @Killoutoflove he left Square a while ago, every now and then he comes back and dose some composing for them.

He had nothing to do with a good hand full of games by Square for a while. He did com back and compose for 14 tho

  • @Killoutoflove actually he resigned after FFX was made and is it just me but i noticed a downfall after X

  • @Killoutoflove he resigned after XI basically beacuse he thought square"enix" sucked XD

  • @Killoutoflove Don't forget about Mitsuda Yasunori. Can't forget him. Can't forget him...

  • @Killoutoflove making music isnt a job, its a life style, i highly doubt he will retire, music is his life, as it is with others.

  • @Killoutoflove unless they can convince someone high profile like Yoko Kanno to take over....

  • @Killoutoflove no when final fantasy finally ends then they are in peril

  • @Killoutoflove I know this comment is around a year old, but Uematsu is already pretty much in semi retirement as far as Square Enix is concerned. He stopped being full time Final Fantasy score composer after the merger. In fact, you could argue he stopped after Final Fantasy IX. XII doesn't feature him except the main Final Fantasy theme and XIII doesn't feature him at all. However, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey for the Xbox 360 DO feature his genius.

  • lol he forgot he composed eyes on me xD

  • Final fantasy 8 is over-shadowed because its between 7 and 9...

  • Nobuo is amazing, especially for being someone who was NEVER classically trained. He made simple music that was still very capable of pulling you in and making you submit your emotions. Without his music, I wouldn't have cried at the end of Final Fantasy X.

  • no doubt man this man's music is pure genius. I was hooked the first time I heard it. Nobuo Uematsu wins the EPiC Genius Award

  • Uematsu... Please live forever!

  • The music in this video was from the best years of my life.

  • Uematsu, my dear friend keep doing what you do best, and know we, your loyal listeners, will always support you while eagerly awating the newest instalment to your legendary compositions

  • LONG LIVE UEMATSU! may his music forever be the soundtrack to our lives!

  • wow absolutely terrible spoiler

  • "500 people who do what we do: music composition." WAT.

  • @Visualundeath I think he may have meant in a certain league of composing. There are many more than 500 music composers on the planet, but as far as skill on the level of uematsu goes, not a whole lotta ppl can measure up to his brilliance. In fact most people probably couldn't even come close. Not as far as I've seen from personal experience anyways. Guys an icon

  • dont be modest nobuo your awsome

  • dude nobuo is the ultimate musician anybody who goes against that ........will get killed right now lol (4real)

  • Goose bumps each time . Rare occasion but coming from Nobuo, it's expected from each single compilation.

  • I'm sooooooooo jelous of my friend in America. She got to see Dear Friends =(

  • "He is number 1! Absolutely!"

  • Uematsu is such an idol! Sorry to spam but I'm a young composer who is hoping to write music for games in Japan so if you would like so see some new music from young composers feel free to visit my channel!

  • he IS totally brilliant

  • omg though, im a nobuo fangirl. i love his music. i really want to meet him and tell him how much i admire him and his work.

  • damn, nobuo is so amazing. it's funny how he forgets he even wrote eyes on me, lol.

  • a god amongst humans: Nobuo Uematsu

  • areith's theme is soooo freakin sad

  • Comment removed

  • Uematsu is pretty much the sole reason I bought Lost Odyssey. It was a good game, but the music was just mind-blowing.

  • There are only 500 composers in the world?! and nobuo uematsu is the best?

    ...

oookay then... this guy definitely knows a lot about music.

  • @rew987654321 pretty sure he's talking about video game music composition

  • let's see who will listen to britney or madonna song next 2100, i bet nobuo's music will still playing around the world. final fantasy rocks!

  • Every time I here Liberi Fatali I get a blast from the past... fun times...

  • VI, VII, VIII, and X had such great music. It's a shame Nobuo isn't composing for the Final Fantasy anymore.

  • He does still on occasion, but he doesn't do the main osts anymore.

  • because of nobou uematsu, i become a pianist my self, u are my idol nobou, i really love your compositions

  • This is probably from 2005/6 but the production value looks like a below standards 80s shit.

  • i saw it on G4, you have no clue

  • To me, FFX soundtrack was the best. It sucks that they only spoke of the metal piece on that one cause the rest is absolutely way above and beyond that track. "The Hymn of the Fayth" still rings in my head from time to time and I haven't played the game in 6 years!

  • madonna and britney = shitty pop music.....uematsu = genius.

let's see britney or madonna try to compose 40 hrs of brilliant music.

  • @lucirz Thats a little harsh.

  • No, it's the truth.

  • @lucirz I challenge them for 6 minutes of it.

  • @lucirz uematsu is god

  • @lucirz Hey, I agree that Uematsu is God and such but don't say that about Madonna. She was wonderful in the 80s. Have you even listened to Like a Prayer?

  • @lucirz 40 hrs x 19 games/movies.

  • OMG SPOILERS!!! XD

  • Wonderful, fantastic!

It's one God of music living between us!!!

Countdown the days to Final Fantasy XIV!!!

  • 160 songs for ff9. wow...

  • what's the name of the song played in 1:48?

  • dunno. it should be Eyes on Me but i'm pretty sure it's not.

  • Where can I download this video?

  • No where. It hasn't aired again on G4 and this is actually something I taped 4 years ago (that's why the quality sucks).

  • T_T

  • do u happen to have the Kazunori Yamauchi (gran turismo) episode?

  • "omg spoilers" lol . Nobuo Uematsu FTW

  • WTF? no mention of ffIV WHY!!!

  • Nobuo is a LEGEND. I was in absolute awe when I saws the TGS 2009 trailer for FFXIV. I seriously look forward to hearing his musical piece while playing an MMO.

  • fuck timbaland and dr dre they got absolutely nothing on nobou uematsu

  • Final Fantasy 7: Cloud's smile, Tifa's Theme, Aerith's Theme, One Winged Angel, Jenova, World map's theme, Those Who Fight.

FF10: To Zarnakand, Sudeki, The Sending, Auron's Theme, Battle Theme, Boss theme.

    FF10-2: 1000 words & Yuna's Theme.

These I think that give me the biggest goose bumps EVER!!

  • FFVII is the best, I absolutely LOVE Nobuo Uematsu's music with One Winged Angel, Fight On, and other songs. and i fucking LOVE it when in the beginning in FFVII it goes to a Cinematic Scene to gameplay :O

  • BAH FF7 is overrated.

  • i like all final fantasys and the only reason why it does meantion ff7 more is because it was the fist one on cd, in 3d so Nobuo Uematsu could use more than simple notes.

  • I still think its vastly overrated.

I mean its music passed right through me,except i did have a sadness wash over me on aeris song.

    But it was the song.

  • thats fair enough that song makes me sad especailly during her death.

I also like Suteki da ne its so beautiful.

  • Wich piece is that?

THe piece that has the most dramatic effects on me are some of the ff6 pieces and ff4.

Of ff6 in terms of dramatic effects on me:

World of ruin:It has that tone of hopelessness that it simply makes you feel like there is trully no hope left.

gau-s theme:Not only is it very sad but it fits him perfectly as his story is quite sad.

    Doma castle theme:Very very sad.

celes theme:This is when cid dies and its very very sad.

  • Suteki da ne is the song when tidus and yuna kiss in ff10.

  • I think that some of these songs i should listen to them while playing the game.

It won't have the same impact on me if i listen to videogame songs without the game and not having played through that scene.

I have yet to beat FFX.

I like the game,i just got backtracked because i died at yunalesca and accidentally saved over it.

Ever since then i havent had the will to play again.

  • It's unfortunate that the music couldn't be streamed as audio because then Uematsu wont be limited to 16 channels and sounds that are sampled by someone else.

  • The music has alot more effect on me when i play the game and actually get a feel of it with the music, its diferent to hear the music on its own without having played the game.

  • ok so its overhyped.

The game didn't impress me and it washed over me.

There are other new games that i like so there are some excellent new games.

  • That's fine. I can't argue with that but I can bet these new games are also overhyped. This is why I fucking hate GameSpot and IGN because opinions differ no matter how the game uses the technology. Some people like graphics and others like bad graphics. I love all the new games because they are excellent but FFVII was excellent back in the day.

  • i agree with you on that.

Alot of these videogame raters give high praise to games and show video with only positive background without any of the negatives.

FF7 was the type of game praised and put on a pedestal without any negative reviews and people ate it up and treated it like it was god and nothing better exists.

I hate those types of fanboys who blindly worship games, even oldschoolers.

FF7 is not perfect but it has its good sides,i am just sick to death of hearing it and the remakes.

  • I don't read reviews and I love FFVII. It's undoubtedly a timeless classic regardless of what YOU think of it because it's the biggest selling FF game to date.

  • game wich sells an is popular doesn't always=good game.

Rap and techno sells, and so do britney spears and they suck balls.

  • No. That's YOUR opinion. I don't like rap or Britney but others do. FFVII is a good game, that's my opinion.

  • I didn't say its a bad game,i just think its not that good.

I think there are worse games in the ff series like ff8 and FFXII revenant wings.

  • I liked FF8 more than FF7 though. Again, my opinion so don't tell me I'm wrong.

  • Alright its my opinion but also, when alot of people agree that a game isn't as good as it's hyped up to be,then obviously i am not the only one who thinks this.

  • Okay so what's your argument? 'Cause I'm pretty sure the majority of FF fans will say that FFVII is the best game ever.

  • hmm alot but not all the people.

Alot wil but there are also a huge amount of people who think ff7 is overrated.

Also there are also a ton of ff6 fans.

It is also rated as one of the highest.

  • I still think that ff7 is seriously overhyped.

And nothing you say or do can change my mind,i don't hate the game but i wish they would shut the fuck up about it.

They act like there is no better game out there or anything almost as good.

  • Yeah, I know. It's not the only game that's "over-hyped". Anyway, I love games being over-hyped because it's about time people realized that the video game industry is the real deal.

  • I also liked squall more than cloud.

    But that is opinion.

Also, its not a good thing to overhype something and blindly worship something.

I don't follow anybody's opinions for an example and you don't either.

I also liked FFX characters, even though people criticize them.

I also liked the customization to the extreme in ff8,it makes more replay value to the game.

Although they did need to simplify things a little more,i also didn't like how you got cash by seed rank only to lose it by flee.

  • Isn't it funny how FFX is my fav and yet it gets so heavily criticized? You're absolutely right about that. But I don't say the game is under-hyped just because opinions differ.

  • Yeah but there are some people also that think popularity=good game

    Not necessarily true.

Rap and techno is popular.and most of both suck.

  • Wrong again. I don't like rap but I love techno. I HATE mainstream cheesy trance but I LOVE Armin Van Buuren and Ferry Corsten etc. Chem em out!

  • i've listened to alot of music and i found most techno found in disco's is plain boring.

I don't consider techno music since alot of times the stuff in disco's is just sinthesizing a bunch of sounds together and there are alot that don't put any effort in making it good.

  • You what? You have NO idea of the process involved in producing EDM. No idea whatsoever. You don't know who you're talking to.

  • no idea huh? have you ever listened to the music in disco's?

that doesn't mean there isn't songs that are all techno that i don't like but most of them suck.

The ff8 techno song man with a machine gun is one of the few techno songs i really really like.

I like trip hop alot but that isn't techno, its a new category alltogether.

And i have a mother who knows about music and i've listened to music and taught since a kid about bands like:steely dan and listened to all sorts of others.

  • I come from a rock background but I was bitten by the electronic music bug and I've never looked back. Trip hop is excellent! Love trip hop so much!!!

  • I remember the olden days of being a kid and travelling in a car.

eurithmics, lynrd skinnr, leonard cohen, the beach boys tom petty, steely dan and the eagles.

Also adding in david byrn, eric clapton, traffic, blind faith and many more.

  • those songs still bring fond memories

  • changing the topic, did you notice how the beginning of dancing mad sounds like music that belongs in the 1600's or 1700's?

  • I disagree, and here is why.....FuCk Yaa FOO

  • That may be your view but I can't stand people who say stuff is overrated as if everyone who praises FFVII has bad taste. FFVII isn't my fav it's actually my third but I don't accuse it of being overrated just because a lot of people like it. They like it because it's a good game and they have a special connection with it.

  • Well,i'm not the only retro gamer who thinks ff7 is overrated.

Alot of people are angry with ff7

  • this person has given us so much and yet he is modest about his impact in the gaming soundtrack-world.

i really look forward for FFXIV as he does the whole Soundtrack for that one.

  • HE DOES???!!?! :O i thought he finished after "X" as X-2's soundtrack was a shity pop.... thing...

  • X-2 had Memories of Lightwaves....one of Uematsu's best (which he has said so himself)

  • ya tht was my fav song from that game

  • you are aware that he did not make that right?

  • que

  • "... continues to raise the bar? ... hahah he IS the bar"

This man is the reason why I wished FF games remained silent w/o any voice overs. In the older FF games, his music IS the dialogue and he knew EXACTLY how the game should speak ...

Uematsu san is 50% of all FF games !!!1

  • more is happening than just listining to music id say its a world of feirce competition and what we decide from what we hear and compells us to do such..

Nobuo Uematsu is my idol as his music has been the greatest, thank you G4! and for the upload solidan21 and all the people who work so hard for the art of truer feeling, as a connection to a real more natural force!

  • 40 hours my butt. i spent 70 hours on that game XD all the sidequests.

  • I spent like 125.....I suck okay! But I did enjoy the music.

  • It is true, ~500 music composer FOR GAMES. And Nobuo-sama is one of them, one of the best.

  • nobuo pwns all
