I look for a pentatonic minor rock bass player with blue and doria note flavor. My favorite note is E but A is also very fulfilled by attack. Keep in touch if here is any! Thank you!
he's playing Amin pentatonic and when playing the dorian mode, shouldnt he be starting on the B? (hence its the 2nd note of the Amin scale...) but he starts on the A too. sounds great though.
The Am dorian scale is used to play over an Am tonality. You confuse it with its function as 2nd step in the major scale, and in that case I play the 2nd step of the G major scale
so it would be true that playing Am dorian would produce the "right" notes when playing to a Gmaj backing track AND playing over an Amin backing track. just gives you different kind of flavours..
hi marlowedk its me, since you placed this i was wondering what else or what type of scale can go with this song. you played a blues line and a dorian scale. so what other scale can u put here
Dude, you're sick. What's different about you is that you take the time to slow down your licks, unlike some other bass players out there who are also real good, but can not slow down what they're doing so it can be beneficial to others. Thx dude!!! keep it it up.
I will get straight to the point here. Thank you, Thank you Thank you for giving so much indiscriminately. What an unselfish being that you be! Inspirational and fulfilling listening to you play. Are there any recordings of yours that we can purchase?
1st off thank you for your excellent vids these are by far the best that i have seen (jamersonshook too), really really informative. I think you have done a great job in making things look easy (thats down to your skillz). There a visual and sonic pleasure just straight to the point. They have helped me loads i've always been a groove player so your libary of grooves are a godsend and your solos so helpful. Your doing a fantastic deed by giving freely. Good karma Keep it up
You're really good man, very helpful. I've always known about the blues scale full 2 octaves of it since I played guitar, but never could come up with things out of it. Know that I've seen this video, and since I play bass now, I know how lots of pro's do it. U know what this reminds me of, sounds just like one of Victor Wooten's grooves on the Bass Day 98 video. I love the funky stuff, keep it coming!
gave up the bass 25 yrs ago...but you have given me renewed inspirations...slowly findin it in my fingers again!..love all yer blues.double thumb...slap etc..thankx a million! mark
you're such an inspiration! and so prolific with the vids (thank you). i thought to move to copenhagen and beg for lessons until i saw how expensive it is there! got a spare room? ;-)
Hey Marlowe, thanks again for the lesson. Where did you get the lick/scale around 6:50 on the video? I like it a lot. Is it based on a particular mode?
Oh - I see! It's relatively the same pattern, just being shifted - duh :) And bend up to the note? Thanks Marlowe - this really helps! You still taking request? If so, could you play 'Sister Andrea' by Mahavishnu Orchestra - awesome song!
Thank, I really learn a lot just watching your vids!
that is one sexy soundd.

Dorian is a 2nd degree scale. If you take G major as the 1st degree, then it is correct that he plays this over an A minor.
