  • remarkable sound, unique climate

Best wishes for YOU Ted, Andy, Martin etc.

  • now that's what I call BOGEY .And I sure ass hell love to BOGEY

  • Very good muse !

  • That was me dancing ! Not ! But I was at the seattle paramount theatre in 1973, and I was dancing ....and never stopped. Wishbone was my fav. Concert of all time. I was blowin free like a cornfield, yes indeedy:-P

  • the Turners were not brothers.

Also, I have to vote for Duane Allman/Dickey Betts as best twin leads...though Andy and Ted are close.

  • the Turners were not brothers.

  • i am 55 i was at this concert too it was great!!!!!!!!! i was in such a good mood i wanted to dance but i was about 40 feet back and there was no room i had fun ill never forget it i saw the camera and wondered when id get to see the video such a long wait mike a guy in the audience

  • i am 55 i was at this concert too it was great!!!!!!!!! i was in such a good mood i wanted to dance but i was about 40 feet back and there was no room i had fun ill never forget it i saw the camera and wondered when id get to see the video such a long wait mike a guy in the audience

  • this video was at the chicagos connetic playground cause i remember the guy dancing whith the white shirt on.

  • Great! Andy Powell rocks!

  • This was/is my all time favorite with Andy being amazing ... and so is every one else as always. Like the girl in audiences dancing ... having a blast! :)

  • their energy comes throught my screen and charging me!!!

  • Can't wait for 2030,should be some good music again.

  • GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD THE BIGEST BAND IN ROCK HISTORY

  • got to love those dancers too

  • 2:07-Jumps in like a house on fire, and keeps going like the Energizer Bunny! 4:06 breaks into this cool jazz comping /soloing....I mean, really-does it get any better than this?

    I think not.

  • Damn wish I had noticed these guys back in the day, I missed out on alot I guess

  • my god where has the great music gone, you just cant find anything like this anymore;60s n 70s so much incredible music back then

  • How could anybody not like these guys?

  • Wow...incredible lineup! Love the way Powell and Turner play opposites off each other; the Yin and Yang of guitars. Too bad the cameraman wasted so much precious footage on the dancing retards instead of keeping the lens where it belonged.

I remember seeing this on Rock Concert, my first exposure to Wishbone Ash. Such an underrated band, and so damn good!

  • way the best line up for these guys. of course this was the line up and the first song I ever heard them play. Fan from the first note

  • Thank you very much for posting this video, it's great!!!!!!!!

  • 2:10 ! Hey, look everybody! I'm dancing!! Will no one dance with me????

  • 1973 was a golden year for music.

  • Looks like Elton John with a guitar, but sure knows how to play some rock'n roll!

  • i can see triumph was influenced heavily !!

  • Thanks, that sure as hell does not look like Ted Turner!

  • Who is that on the other lead guitar? I'm sure it's neither Ted Turner nor Laurie Wisefield.

  • @SydBaron

Ted T on guitar , Martin T on Bass , Steve Upton drums ,and Andy Powell on G.

  • @hieronomy Yap ... original crew. Andy #1 on lead... Their music helped me get through school.

  • Some of the tastiest guitar licks I've ever heard.

  • this was the first song I ever heard them play live. Never missed a chance to see them after that. It was also the first time I had seen anybody playing through Orange amps. so I ask a roadie after the show..what's an Orange? and he said, and I quote. Dont ya know luv? It's a colour.

  • the best band with the best songs. how could they they go so under the radar when they meant more to those who listened than led zeppelin?

  • Lovely mixture of Gibson and Fender tones on the lead solo! Great band!

  • love this band nearly as much as my dog gem bob k

  • the memories come flooding back

  • I've always thought if Andy Powell had applied himself a bit more to his vocals he would have been a really great singer rather than just a good one, but then again would that have been to the detriment of his guitar playing......

  • Woman at 2:16 and 7:00 was really having fun

  • @eche1986

    must be high

  • Awesome!

  • Were Wishbone Ash ever on DON KIRSHNER'S ROCK CONCERT in the 70's? If so, has that footage ever been unearthed?

  • que chingon me cae de madre

  • I wish they would have used this on 'Live Dates' instead of 'Baby What You Want Me To Do'. It's obviously the same tour. It would have improved what is already one of the greatest albums ever! Awesome! Thanx.

  • @musicaldun1 at least there's a great live version of this song on the PILGRIMAGE album. For the LIVE DATES album, a live version of SOMETIME WORLD would have been nice!

  • @slw59 I have thought for 30+ years that "Sometime World" should have been on "Live Dates". Good call!

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rock'n'Roll all over

  • Best twin lead guitar band of the world.

  • @JeffKnight

Ummm, ever hear of the Allman Brothers Band?

  • @madcap007 ABB was great on the twin leads but talentwise I think both of these guys are better than Betts; not better than Duane, though. Duane was the best. Just my opinion.

  • @JeffKnight The Ash were great -- but I'd say that where twin lead bands are concerned they were a very respectable second to Gorham/Robertson-era Thin Lizzy.

  • @FreedomZealot Wishboneash and Allman brothers started around 69 with the twin lead guitars. Thin Lizzy moved into the twin lead sound around 74. All good stuff but I have to put the guys from the 60's in the front row of that sound from both sides of the pond. Wishbone has a great line-up today with Muddy and Andy doing some great work. IMHO the best line-up since the first one. Going to see them in Pittsburgh next month.

  • @JeffKnight

    Allman bros

  • @JeffKnight Sorry, Judas Priest and Fleetwood Mac is nr 1 & 2.

  • @tobbelobbe666 I read in a recent interview with one of the Turner brothers that they were inspired by the twin lead playing of Peter Green and Danny Kirwan in Fleetwood Mac

  • @johnhors Cool! I thought I heard some Green in there

  • @JeffKnight Absolutey. way funner than almond brothers.

  • I wonder why this band haven't the deserved visibility. true artists.

    Peace.

  • Andy can sing - in the sense of staying in tune - but he has a terribly weak and uninteresting voice compared with Martin

  • couldnt disagree more- not to mention that andy is still kicking ass and martin can't sing for shit- i have nothing against martin at all- i just have ears-

  • lol at the oldschool dancing sik tuune tho

  • Brillient!!!! Course I've forwarded to my honey!

  • The more I listen to this the more I like it.

  • been a long time since Andy had that much Hair ;-))

if you get a chance, go see whats left of 'em they still ROCK !!

  • Indeed, Andy may be well...bald...now, but he can still play guitar and sing and that's what matters!!

  • Saw them in Salisbury last year with my Dad (introduced them to me when i was 7)

    Great stuff

  • Wishbone Ash rocks!!!

Gawd, those were the daze my friend!!

*hops in way back machine, sets dial for ROCK*

  • @ttoflea Save room in the machine for me.

  • that dancing guy with beard rocks!!!!

  • Flying V rules a ok..

  • YUP Ditto that, The've been an inspiration and a joy to watch live ... Thanx all ! - But what is that 'Raver' diong in the middle of ths set in 1973 ... lol

  • We used to go to the YMCA in Exeter in the years 1966- 70 to see a band called the Empty Vessels, a three man line up.

they were 'kin brilliant and I have fond memories of those days. Then overnight they got spotted and whisked away and the next time I saw them they were Wishbone Ash, headlining at Exeter Uni.

Ive got all the albums in scratched vinyl and no way to play them, so thanks for all the Ash posts here on you tube

    Noel.

  • this was just my favorite line up doing one of my favorite of their songs. Loved this stuff then and love it now. Wish this line up would get together and come play at my house. maybe even let me jam with them...yeah...that's what I want!!!

  • oh, and when Andy ses 'i sed 'bye bye baby i sed baby bye bye' that just makes me go nuts. i never told him that ...but maybe he'll read this...? :)

  • i was too young for 10yrs after, artists are allowed to 'appropriate' it's a compliment to the original, i love this, loved it when i saw it live with Andy...oh yeh!

  • Awesome!!!

  • Come on children play nice. You should be mature enough to realise that music is all about personal taste. There are some musicians out there whose music does nothing for me, I don't like it, but I am intelligent enough to know that that does NOT make them crap, just not to my taste. I can still recognise their skill. Being a player myself and having tried to play some SRV licks, I KNOW he's skillful even though I don't like most of his stuff. Personal taste is what its all about.

  • saffsgrandad-

exactly- i cant believe how many people miss the point of music- there is no possible way to determine who is "the best"..get into the song,if it makes you feel something, its the best at the moment and that is all that matters-

  • I don't believe in personal tastes. Beauty is a universal constant. Some percieve it better than others.

  • I suppose you are going to claim that your sense perception is superior. How arrogant would that be??????

If there were no such thing as personal taste, we would all like the same colours, the same film genres, drive the same cars, like the same paintings, read the same books, want to marry the same woman etc etc ad nauseam. The one "universal constant" in human beings is that we are all different. Have you never heard the phrase "one man's meat is another man's poison"?

  • It doesn't matter what I believe. It only matters what is. Either I sense beauty very well or I don't. I'm not in competition with others in this regard. The only arrogance is in thinking that we matter. We should all want to die forgotten men.

We should like all the colors equally. They each have a unique function. Yellow is a happy color etc. Colors in themselves have no beauty. Beauty comes in what's done with them. I need a pickup truck. You drive what you need. We marry our soul-mates.

  • Wow, so this is who Eddie Van Halen needs to thank for part of his intro to "Eruption"(between 0:24 - 0:46)

  • its a pentatonic blues lick its been done before van halena and done before this

  • You ought to look for a video of Alvin Lee with his band "Ten Years After" at Woodstock circa 1969, because that's exactly where this lick came from.

  • Hi andy-howya doin? ;0)

  • Last time I heard that must have been 30 years ago. Still sounds as fresh than it did then!

  • the finest blues rock i've ever heard

  • Great to hear this again! Been a long time!

  • GREAT !

It lifted me right out of my personal blues ...

  • Great but whats wrong with that laid-back audience?...Get out and dance Guys(and NIT like that Woman,either)..used to leave their London concerts in 72/93 covered in sweat!

    Biggest 2 Regrets?..

1/Not seeing Led Zeppelin Concert at Wembley in 73 because my Football team lost that afternoon and I was pussed off(Front Row ticket=75 PENCE..i.e just over ONE DOLLAR!

2/ Not seeing Rory Gallagher...that would leave anyone exhausted.Rory=R.I.P. M8

  • your comments bring a smile to my face as I try to explain our era to my 21 year old son. He has told me he thinks we lived in the greatest musical period ever.. and I have to agree! Peter J. Sarich, New York City

  • Great, I love the way they blend blues with hard rock what an underrated band.

  • the dancing guy at 2:06 pissed me off

  • That guy is a gal.

  • your right she is an arshole who knows fuck all about guitar playing

  • This is pure guitar sound. Brilliant.

  • all of you are so full of shit it's dame good old fashion blues thats it man groove man groove dig it

  • Yeh sure - totally agree! - this is BLUES... WA do sometimes rock out in blues fashion, and it's great! - I do like Rush, but you can't compare these bands at all - too different...

  • Personally I think the greatest guitarist of alltime is Jordan Macarus of Winterhawk. If you've never heard Winterhawk you need to get Winterhawk Live (there & back again)Live 1978 & check out the tune called "Creatures from the Sea." I'm sure you'll agree.

  • Hey wicked man thanx, ill check em out for sure, you should look up Sylvester Weaver recorded in the 20's-30's guarantee itll blow your mind(ST.LOUIS BLUES)way ahead of his time still havnt heard anythin like it.

  • SRV had to be experienced live thats for sure.He was such an amazing talent. Yeah Page is great & was an innovator but also sounded like a million blues players before him. I really dig Powell, Turner, cos they were totally original when they started unlike some of the other heavyweights that totally ripped off thier forefathers. Also keep in mind this is my OPINION so no reason to argue

  • Technically, Powell is a far better player than Jimmy Page or most from the same era.The only thing is, Wishbone Ash didnt look to impress the media or pour themselves over every rock mag printed. And dont get me wrong, Zeppelin was awesome,I just dig out of the way stuff better.

  • Dont think Zeppelin got the reputation as being the worlds greatest rock band ever cause they were on the cover of a few mags, haaaaaaaa,if you like this check some live Rush stuff on youtube

  • rush are ok but i havnt heard much of their stuff.good to see richieurie agrees with me

  • WA is much better than Rush.

  • i agree with you my friend

    check out srv

  • this was the last track on the pilgrimage album, recorded live, and just made them a must see band.always went down well in newcastle, saw them many years later in 1981 @ reading and the first thing andy asked was is any one from newcastle in before playing blowin free

  • andy powell rocks

  • The best.....ANYBODY GOT EVERBODY NEEDS A FRIEND...STEVE. HARTLEPOOL UK

  • Awesome song. All of them are outstandig players. Argus one of the best albums of Rock and Roll

  • fucking brilliant

andy powell and ted turner were awseome

    easily better than jimmy page

    long live rory gallagher too

  • Better than Page?? haaaaaaaa funny

  • much better

hes ok on record but not brilliant live

i play guitar and reputations mean nothing

page would be nowwhere near srv,i mean it

  • you can squeeze a million riffs into a tune doesnt mean its good, satch, vai there a dime a dozen nowadays only takes one riff to make you feel it ala Muddy Waters Turner and Powell are good but like I said dime a dozen

  • hahaha page pisses all over srv!

  • dont talk shite

  • fuck off vaughn is shit

  • it must be personal against srv

you know he was good.clapton thooght he was good so thats the end of it

  • oh so coz clapton likes he he must be good. get real. hes overrated. not a great guitarist. very boring. no soul. end of

  • Saw all the bands through the 70's - looking back Zep (album with no-name tour) were someting else. However, the eduring imprint on me in particular was Rory Gallagher. His shows were always 'interactive' and left me completely wrecked physically and mentally in a musical sense.

    Rory's the man!

  • i agree

great era with wishbone ash rory/focus

  • This is not prog rock, it's real rock and roll, good one.

  • There's nothing prog about this performance. It's an English guy like Clapton et al playing straight ahead in your face electric delta blues. That Flying V guitar reminds me of delta bluesman Albert King's V. Get a earful of those Johnny Be Good licks!

  • What a incredible sound and performance. Ash rocks!

  • They considered several names, including Empty Vessels, Jesus Duck and World War III apparently. I don't think they were ever called Hawkwind though.

  • have argus and discovering what a great and under appreciated band they were....long live wishbone..

  • Love that at the 5 minute mark the guitarist does a tap-on. Over ten years before Eddie Van Halen "invented" the technique.

  • so true.. but then again ted was a great guitarist

  • @flubbumx

Rory was doing tapping when EVH was still pissing his diapers.

  • @flubbumx

Over ten years before Eddie Van Halen? Van Halen started in 1974, and their first album was recorded in 1977.

  • i love this band. this tune is amazaing.

  • Were They Originally Called Hawkwind

  • No,Hawkwind was a german spacerock band from the same period. In fact both bands still are playing today in some form or another.

  • Sorry but what are you talking about? Hawkwind were/are not a German band.

  • like alot of great band us aor stations wont play this stuff. sad people would love it even today if given a chance, i saw them in germany when i was in the army and was blown away.

  • I saw them in Ulm in '82, and if there is a better live band, you couldn't prove it by me.

  • Now there's the Rub!

  • Love these guys since the early 70's...wish I could find a post of "Phoenix" that is one of my favorite songs...I only saw a snipit in their trailer...can any one help?...

  • Yeah, triffic band! Bones.

  • I too saw them first time around 1970 in Birmingham UK, my favourite band ever since, thanks for uploading

  • Hey I already uploaded this video!

  • Thanks saintsluggo, you made my day, I saw Wishbone Ash at Satsop Rock Festival in Washington State, Labor Day, 1971 Wishbone Ash of whom was obsure here in the US just blew everyone away, This song was their encore song the night I saw them.

    Thanks again,

    Peace.
