Statistics mean very little in the real world. Take two people who own cars, one of them is a murderer. My sources report that fifty percent of people who own cars are murderers.

Well, you're making an effort to understand the concept, thats good. Usually however, the statistics are true, but taken from a very specific group of subjects. So while the statics are true for the test group, they are no accurate when dealing with real life situations. So your example would not really work, because it is based on a falsehood. Understand now, or should I try to simplify it more?
