yes there has been a high number of plane crashes...not all but alot of it goes to unexperienced pilots...they are not being given enogh airtime before they are on there own...pilots used to be know n as a luxury job...now it is compared to bus driving...no offense to any bus drivers out there...my father died in a crash in 92 and he was very experience...only takes one careless move...which is what happened to him :(

I know some people who went to crappy schools to build flight hours and since they were inadequately trained, got involved in accidents (density altitude conditions, shear/crosswinds, unintentional stall due to ignoring attitude indicator).
there's no way it would have worked in this case, they were too close to the ground. Bottom line is this plane was being flown by an incompetent captain. They even recovered from the stalled condition once but the captain didn't advance the throttle to pick up some speed and make another go at the landing. Completely avoidable accident.

Yes, the truth is when accidents like this happen...airlines are still much more concerned about profit margins than technical and mechanical upgrades which would help save lives. The fact of the matter is that I live less than a mile from a -major- international airport. My home lies directly beneath a commonly used North-Eastern flight path. This incident really hit home for me (no pun intended). A real example of my worst fear come true.
You are wrong. These planes were designed in Canada to fly in this weather.. This has been the ONLY fatal crash of Dash 8's. It is actually preferred by pilots to fly. The crash was simply pilot error. Have a nice day.

actually there was, 2 things , first the fact this plane was dropped in other countries cause apperently the SAS doesn't even trust the planes reliability, the plane had severe icing and the engines fought to stay active(the sputtering many people heard) as the de icing systems failed to remove the sleet....basicly a cheap plane + crappy weather with most likely lack of inspection..(the de icer's are simply rubber "tubes" thats inflate and deflate to break ice) ...i hope this helps..

Just like any other plane or car there are good ones and bad ones. this particular model is considered a very safe and reliable plane. The only issues with this model previously was with the landing gear. All planes were grounded until they were repaired. In short you can't say this an unsafe, unreliable plane because of one crash. My thoughts and prayers go out to all who died and their families.
yes, pretty much, the plane got too slow and didn't have enough air over the wings to sustain flight and they crashed...the airplane actually stalled once and recovered briefly where the pilot should have added power to the engine, but didn't and it continued to the ground at 120 mph or so.
from what i know, the plane didn't have a stall horn, and the yoke shook due to turbulence...instead of pitching down and increasing engine power, the pilot/copilot tried to pitch up worsening the stall...i am not a pilot (yet), but I learned aerodynamics and I know how to fly the flight sims. Even I know that the ONLY way to come out of a stall is to pitch down and increasing manifold pressure.
Pitch controls airspeed, Throttle controls rate of descent/climb (not the other way round)...
It is really sad the nutcases have to come "out" of their closets over this. Shit happens and sadly people die. Not everything like this is some conspirarcy. I feel for the families of the ones who died but hope that someone really looks into Continental's maintenance program, this is the second crash in two months for them, the first at DIA where the plane slid off the runway and burst into flames and now this.
I know that the crash could have been weather related but I think someone seriously needs to look into this airline. I wish the families all the best in their time of grieving.

Planes have to be treated with respect since unlike vehicles on the ground, a plane RELIES on fluid (airflow).
Some airline wisdoms pilots should remember:
1) Never run out of airspeed, altitude and ideas at the same time.
2) 3 most useless things in aviation: the altitude above you, runway behind you, fuel back at the airport.
These 2 points lead to 95+ percent of crashes. Only the remaining <5 percent (or less) are caused by turbulent weather or mechanical failure.

She was a very intelligent and beautiful woman with plenty of flight time hours. All of this demeaning speculation that the crash was solely her fault is insane. The captain was right by her side through it all. I'm sure they both desperately fought to regain control in a hopeless situation. Frequently mechanical failures result in an inevitable, unavoidable tragedy. Have some more respect for the dead, after all they no longer have the luxury of defending themselves.

Lesson learned: That means... that we now know that this particular plane is is likely to come down, when there's ice forming on its wings etc.
Rest assured that little or nothing will be done about it to ensure the same won't ever happen again. Thus the only thing you personally can do about is, is to refuse flying in this propelled coffin... :(

Yes, the truth is when accidents like this happen...airlines are still much more concerned about profit margins than technical and mechanical upgrades which would help save lives. Overhauling planes with the latest and greatest conceived safety systems isn't worth protecting us. I'll keep driving thank you.

The fact of the matter is that I live less than a mile from a -major- international airport. My home lies directly beneath a commonly used North-Eastern flight path. This incident really hit home for me (no pun intended). A real example of my worst fear come true.

You are wrong. These planes were designed in Canada to fly in this weather.. This has been the ONLY fatal crash of Dash 8's. It is actually preferred by pilots to fly. The crash was simply pilot error. Have a nice day.

actually there was, 2 things , first the fact this plane was dropped in other countries cause apperently the SAS doesn't even trust the planes reliability, the plane had severe icing and the engines fought to stay active(the sputtering many people heard) as the de icing systems failed to remove the sleet....basicly a cheap plane + crappy weather with most likely lack of inspection..(the de icer's are simply rubber "tubes" thats inflate and deflate to break ice) ...i hope this helps..

Just like any other plane or car there are good ones and bad ones. this particular model is considered a very safe and reliable plane. The only issues with this model previously was with the landing gear. All planes were grounded until they were repaired. In short you can't say this an unsafe, unreliable plane because of one crash. My thoughts and prayers go out to all who died and their families.

yes, pretty much, the plane got too slow and didn't have enough air over the wings to sustain flight and they crashed...the airplane actually stalled once and recovered briefly where the pilot should have added power to the engine, but didn't and it continued to the ground at 120 mph or so.

from what i know, the plane didn't have a stall horn, and the yoke shook due to turbulence...instead of pitching down and increasing engine power, the pilot/copilot tried to pitch up worsening the stall...i am not a pilot (yet), but I learned aerodynamics and I know how to fly the flight sims. Even I know that the ONLY way to come out of a stall is to pitch down and increasing manifold pressure.
Pitch controls airspeed, Throttle controls rate of descent/climb (not the other way round)...

Google knew the plane that crashed in Buffalo was going to crash.. Go to a Youtube video posted by Google called "Google Latitude" that was posted on February 3'rd at at 50 seconds it says " I am happy my mother's plane landed safely in New Jersey since the weather was terrible." Sounds like an Omen to me or Google knew something in advance.

I feel for the families of the ones who died but hope that someone really looks into Continental's maintenance program, this is the second crash in two months for them, the first at DIA where the plane slid off the runway and burst into flames and now this.
I know that the crash could have been weather related but I think someone seriously needs to look into this airline. I wish the families all the best in their time of grieving.
