  • i was hoping to see some aperture laboratory debrises

  • Awesome. Get stoned. Get this game. Get flashed.

  • aren't there any monsters or weapons?

  • @egioch Nope.

  • CAN ANYONE PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE OR REPLY TO THIS WHAT THE MAN ARE SAYING.. ITS SOMETHING LIKE "I FLY'D TO THE MOON IN IT"

  • audiovisual experience?

  • wtf is this?

  • @PappaKslimm something beyond your grasp! idiot

  • @Danarogon artsy, fartsy

  • This is basically a book in form of a game. Why can't people understand that? The mod, even if I didn't get the story per say, is marvelous. I loved it, and surely will buy this.

  • Why can't I skip the 30 sec long ad?

  • You know people always have to BLOW SOMETHING UP USING A FRIGGIN ROCKET LAUCHER FUCK YEAH KILL NUBZ AND PRESS A BUTTON EVERY SECOND.

Can't we just listen to a deep story in a great virtual environment?

I'm gonna get this on sale!

  • reminds me of king kong the game

  • blah blah blah, fellas calling this art. let's talk seriously, this game could've been much better, it's kinda tedious, slowly wandering across a fucking huge land waiting for absolutely nothing to happen, besides a small spoken phrase. if at least it has a "run" button. anyway, awesome graphics, better i've ever seen, wish skyrim had such graphics.

  • This ""game"" is fucking great !

  • This game concept could be used in school, i'd rather play throug a story like this then to read a book.

  • What a masterpiece.

  • Like si estas aqui por el tweet de alexelcapo

  • @ArseniKo97

quatro fomaggi escargots piliwilijajaj estate bonuti?

  • Alexelcapo manda

  • Alex elcapo me trajo aqui xD

  • is Peter Dinkledge narrating?

  • Not a game, only story telling with visuals.

  • @Af3ktt The Old Republic was a story telling with visuals and a chat box. Millions of people bought that. This even looks less linear.

  • ...so, is it like myst but with a very deep story line?

  • this game is so emotional. I think games like these such as Shadow of the Colossus or Limbo are proof that games can transmit great stories and sensations. They don't give out the plot like any blockbuster, but it gives away clues of the events and make you read between the lines and feel like the character. I get a sense of immersion here that hundreds of Role-playing games, realistic strategy games or simulated first person shooters have unsuccessfully attempted for all these years.

  • this isnt a game, beautiful but boring as hell

  • @hypnomedusa You're right, it isn't a game, it's more like a story, and I like it

  • @hypnomedusa Yes it is. Games can be very diverse. But the one thing in common is interaction.

  • english is not my native language so it was hard to understand so difficult words didn't understand much from the letters but a little too old game engine for a beatiful game but it was okay and the ending really felt you climbed that hill and i was really high i didn't get the ending why he jumped out of that tower? he said he's going to fly but wtf he just jumps down

  • @irou95 source is fine. If you watch the shadow, you can see he turns into a bird.

  • @audryzas i noticed but i thought that was just one of those random element's i thought it was just his soul flying around

  • is the valve wanna do a story game , why dont they do a book ??? this game is the unfunniest game i ever seen

  • @titioDApipoca What? That was hard to read. Valve didn't make this. Also if you're in the first person seeing everything it offers whole new possibilities for telling stories.

  • it reminds me a bit of Dead Island... Same atmosphere like in the trailer

  • @kleinshooter yea i understand what you mean, but it isnt false advertising itself like dead island did. All you see in the trailer is in the game and more. I highly suggest you getting it if your intrested in something like this

  • @RMCLmaker I allready got it and played throug it, it took me 2 hours only :( for me, the part in the dungeon is the most amazing part ive ever seen in any ego shooter game!

  • I havent understood it quite yet (No I don't have it)

But as you walk around, there is this voice who reads from a letter? And your supposed to find some evidence for the letter am I right?

So there is none of the typical games, like enemies and fighting?

  • @uberjens No. None of that. It's a game that you can set mindless violence aside and simply walk around a beautiful enviorment and listen to an immersive study.

If you feel like you should be shooting something, than this game is obviously not for you.

  • @DeltaD36 Well I was considering buying it, but is there nothing you can do in it? Except for walking?

  • I wouldn't call this a game, more of a story.

I enjoyed it very much, a nice change of pace from the other common games of today

@cquintanar41 the idea isn't to keep the viewer on rails but rather, keep them off of rails and far far away, which is shocking I know, but it will let players experience the story in as close to an unguided manner as they can.

They want you to use your imagination, to think on your own. For that alone, Dear Esther is one of the greater games I have played.

  • Does this game have any story at all i find it so boring

  • @cquintanar41, Dude. The game IS a story.

  • Commercial? FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuu

  • UNA MIERDA DE JUEGO!!

  • @johnrios2 Vardoc xD kjlansfljan

  • One of the best games I've played. It's deep and rich storyline is up there with Bioshock and game's alike. Few games (and films) had me feeling this emotionally (un)satisfied. It leaves you questioning everything you've witness, shocked, moved and excited. It proves games still have a lot of ground yet to explore.

  • What is it about? A first person story game without shooting?

  • This game is so fucking good, I wanna Dear Esther 2!

  • god damn no skip ad !!!!!

  • Guys, shut up already. As To The Moon said, these kind of art games shouldn't be seen as games, nor books, nor movies, but yet, as a way of telling a story through viewing and hearing. But it is still classified as an Art Game.

  • @lucasrsbr Visual Novel works well for me.

  • @lucasrsbr arg?

  • Dear Esther videos on my gaming channel would love the support ! thanks guys and enjoy the game if you have it :)

  • Forget any preconceptions you have about Dear Esther. Nothing you have seen will prepare you for what you are about to see. Is it a game, is it art, is it poetry or perhaps a form of storytelling? Whatever Dear Esther is, it is a unique and inspiring experience. I am privileged to live in this era to have this experience. For a long time, I had a dream that games should be made with an artistic depth equivalent to films and novels. Dear Esther is one small step towards this direction.

  • You must all know this is not a game. The only thing you can do is walk and nothing else. This is something like you sit and reading a book, and you don't need to imagined only to watch.

  • Amazing this is built on the dated source engine.

  • why is it so short :( took me 2 hours and i wasnt even trying to be fast

  • there are other paths

  • Comment removed

  • Previously, on LOST.

  • OK NICE GRAPHIC BUT THIS IS NOT GAME !YOU CANT RUN -I FINISH IT IN 30 MIN.THEY WASTE THEOPPORTUITY TO MAKE A GOODGAME---

  • @jo10704 You're being sarcastic or just retarded?

  • @SenolisFromV retarded I think

  • @XaVe182 you bought this "game"?

  • @SenolisFromV you can't interact with nothing this is not a game ...

its only a short walktrip (beautiful atmosphere and music but too short)

who agree with me about this?

  • @jo10704 missed the point, this games take a lot longer to understand, and you found nothing if you rushed tru it.

  • @sebaswildboy dude i i like it but they can make it better and longer

  • Comment removed

  • If you've ever read frankenstein, you'll recognize the influence on the narration.

  • Just finished it. How can anyone ever say that games are not art while this exists? there should be many more games like this

  • @tehx3n Shadow of the Colossus :)

  • @tehx3n It was pretty cool, got goosebumps a few times when got to a beautiful view, but I didn't get the story, wish there was an explanation video here somewhere :S

  • @Vitzartti there Isn't an official explanation, everyones supposed to come to their own conclusion on what happened, but google it. There are many interesting interpretations.

  • @tehx3n what's the game about? it seems amazing, i'm interested in it

  • @Margalus89 It's about exploring this great looking island, while picking of REALLY well hidden clues in order to form a story - a sad, romantic and tragi story - inside your own head. It's just... So awesome!

  • @Gamez4Review so you can interact with the world..and nothing more? not saying it sucks, just asking. i loved Amnesia and you only had a lantern there lol

  • @Margalus89 The funny part here is; You can't interact with the world. You can only walk. But it's actually really creepy and it's going to suck you in if you pay attention to the twisted story of the game...

  • @Gamez4Review i loved Amnesia 'cause you can just interact with the physic world and cannot do anything else..i'll love this for sure? hope it's out for Mac too, but i'll try it on my PC's first

  • @Margalus89 Amnesia had a Premise and a Goal. This one is more of explaining a Poetry story through Hearing and Interaction.

  • @Margalus89 As I said, you can't interact at all here (;

  • @Gamez4Review that'll be great, i got it now and i'll start it in a hour :P

  • @Margalus89 Hope you'll get just as much enjoyment out of it as I have (:

  • Kinda like the path

  • Too bad it's quite short and the ending hung... it's not expensive though

Never played anything like this, I just told myself I compare it to playing a book.

  • @GamersValhalla One of the most engaging THINGS of all time even though it is short i loved every second of it!

  • Am I the only one who nearly shed a tear at the narrative in this trailer O_o?

  • what is this game about?o.0

  • i just have 1 question can you play this without having hl2 ?

  • @theunforgiven301 yes you can

  • Just finished this the remake... Holy shit is all i can say! Beautiful! Bot visually and philosophically :')

  • @nus (( )

  • i bought in the first hour! :D

  • - If I download this on Steam, will I have to buy Half-life 2 as well?? I got two accounts and they won't let them merge. I found my password again but that one has HL2 on it and I mainly play with the one with no HL2 on it.

  • @GamersValhalla No, you only needed HL2 to play the original mod, its a seperate game to buy on Steam now.

  • @GamersValhalla no you wont, this is not a mod but a different bueatiful game entirely

  • Is out :) cant wait to see some lets plays ...

  • this should be a zombie game. u arrive on a strrange island.... u go into an abandond house find a half eaten corpse grab a pistool...etc etc

  • @Nazizombies222 Yeah it could make a really cool action/adventure game, but I think they wanted to go for the more artistic style deepness and being a passive experience.

I guess someone could always make a mod for it (ironic since it was originally a mod.)

  • this not a mod anymore so suck my dick Half-life!

  • sorry 2 hours

  • 1 HOUR TO GO!!!!!!!

  • I'll buy this so hard!

  • fuuuuck, 10 hours to go. i keep throwing money at my computer but it still fucking says 10 hours to go.

  • this doesnt even show all the awesome weaponry you can customize

  • to all you new people out there who haven't played half life 2 on PC, GET IT it is the best game ever to be created not to mention the thousands of custom mods which make it even more amazing

  • Am I the only one who keeps hearing this again and again just because of the narrator?

  • Yey can't wait, only £6.99 on steam :D

  • [insert classy comment from said clip here]

  • Fuck valentine's day. Dear esther is coming out tomorrow!!!

  • @tomservodoctor42 this will be a free mod on steam

you only need to have half life 2 ep2 on your steam account

and for everyone, THIS IS SOURCE

  • @inthecrib Not free, but 7 bucks are not much.

  • @inthecrib nope its ten bucks

  • @inthecrib Nooope, it's going to cost 10 bucks. Even if you already have half life 2

  • This reminds me of Braid. It looks amazing. I am definitely going to buy this game.

  • musiquinha classuda

  • @Raiden1091 This is not a mod, it is a retail re-make of a mod. It would probably be possible for the developers to make it for consoles.

  • This looks really awesome. The graphics seem amazing, even at this relatively low resolution. The story appears to be very poetic, which is good. The music in this trailer isnt top-tier, as it was advertised, but im sure the game itself will have a great soundtrack. All in all, I think i'll eventually get this game.

  • i want it inside of me.

  • Goddamn Source engine masterpiece.

  • love if this came to Xbox live, not sure if its possible or not though,no idea about specs needed etc.

  • Wow! this is a powerful trailer! i didn't even watch the gameplay and i already want the game

  • @CarlosMiranda619 I should probably point out there isn't really gameplay to show, it's more of an interactive story than a game

  • @CarlosMiranda619 the gameplay is basically walking around and exploring.

  • This looks unbelievably good using the Source engine.

  • Whats the song called! Please tell me!

  • @TennaciousD94 Two down the divider

    go to the channel twodownmusic

song will be out beside the game :)

  • @TennaciousD94 Not sure of the track name since I've only heard the samples, But its by Jessica Curry go to dear-esther/com to see them.

  • Trailer's like Dear Esther makes me wish I had the money for a legit gaming computer.

  • @xManFac3x You only need about a gig of RAM.

  • @xManFac3x If you have money for a console you have money for a decent gaming pc. They are not that expensive and you don't need to go all out with it. Even $300 laptops can handle battlefield 3 just not on max settings.

  • @xManFac3x wel theese days a $ shall $800 suffice if u build it yourslef

  • @xManFac3x if you can play HL2 you can play this game..

  • @akakentiy the requirements are WAY higher then hl2

    hl2 = pentium 4 3.0 Ghz

dear esther = intel core 2 duo 2.4Ghz

well, only the cpu, but source was always about cpu

  • Who said that games can't be art?

  • I'm so excited to not only play this but see Let's Players play though it.

  • Why can't this be on consoles? :(

  • @calumelliott You can't have mods on consoles.

  • @Raiden1091 Yeah but that was the original one, I think it was a mod for half life 2. This is a retail version so there's no reason for it not to be on consoles, it's just another source engine game. You don't need HL2 to play this retail version, therefore it would work fine on consoles.

  • @calumelliott If pc goes good then they want to bring it to mac/console.

  • How much will this game be?

  • this game looks beautiful

  • The music sounds like Apocalyptica but I cant put my finger on it.

  • wow look at all the wannabe hardcore comments to me this looks great for such an old engine but yeah if you dont like it why are you all here argueing over what people play? go back to your call of duty and leave the rest of the world alone

  • Cack

  • so what the fuck is it? all that vido showed me was a bunch of shit and some people saying its great

  • @TheLuckyguy51 What you saw is the game. You literally just walk around the world while some dude reads his love letters.

  • Another stolen video by IGN.

  • @MrShawnCourtney Are you fucking stupid? It's a trailer, IGN posts trailers. How dumb can you be?

  • @Joshawaable First of all, it's an indie game. There are no links to the developers channel or website. They do not support the developers.

  • @MrShawnCourtney It doesn't mean they stole the video.

  • Source? An 8 year old engine can create games that look just as beautiful as Crysis or Battlefield 3? Oh man...

  • @OKComquter The gameplay footage you saw in the video isn't the original Source mod from 2008... You really think games back then looked like that? This is a stand-alone remake of the mod and it isn't Source. Source has a unique art style and you can't see that in this video, so it should have been obvious.

  • @mkim1224 It's still the source engine, they say that on the website, the dev blog and the steam store page. More specifically it's the version used in Portal 2.

  • @mkim1224 Basically what Eateroftheflame said. I agree, games on the Source engine didn't look as good during 2008, but I was talking about how impressed I was that an 8 year old engine could be so heavily adapted and yet only require a 128 mb video card. Viva la Valve!

  • Comment removed

  • @OKComquter this game has nothing on either game. no idea what your talking about

  • @OKComquter It's not like they update it or anything. You tool.

  • I am going to buy the shit out of this game!

  • @Frizzi95 I mean that this game was essentially made by one guy Robert Briscoe using the valve. The write to release were bought of his by "thechineseroom". Find his youtube channel and it shows his progress over the last few years :)

  • @TheNsnare valve engine*

  • @TheNsnare Source engine*
