Sister Rosetta Tharpe was a self-taught musical virtuoso. She was one of the architects of Rock & Roll bringing the sound to life in the 40"s. This was before Elvis stole Big Mamma Thorton's "You Ain't Nothing But A Hound Dog". She was doing pinwheels on stage before Chuck Berry and has a flamboyant stage presence that Little Richard and Elton John copied.

@erjones5 i think i know what you are asking and i think the answer is yes.... she does play guitar, at least ive seen it in videos. the extent to which she could play in the forties, im not sure.
