yeah they do come set up pretty bad, the toy tune o matic they had on it couldnt even keep the strings in the saddles, it was completely unplayable without a real TOM. At least mine was. The stock pups are noisy and the neck buzzes, I replaced the string trees for graphite ones and I use the whammy all the time and its not a problem really. Still this is one of the coolest geets ive owned. Remember hard work eventually pays off. Buy one and plan to upgrade/fix.
sweet sounds. how is that tremolo working out for you? I ordered a white one yesterday with a stop-bar tailpiece because I have little experience with a tremolo...but it sounds so nice here and now I'm thinking of exchanging it!
Hello, well played lenny! Do you still own this guitar? Im interested in getting one but im curious about the tremolo on this guitar; does it still stay in tune well? Im not planning do ing any diveboms, but use it like you did in playing the Lenny(ie- subtle use).
hey, i saw this guitar advertised and raved about in an issue of GuitarPlayer Magazine and i love em...but see, i'm not a very bluesy guitarist, not that i don't like blues (i do) but i was wondering...is there any possibilty you could do a complete demo? like through clean, distortion, pedals? you know?
btw, i really enjoyed this video, it was very smooth and "pretty" (i hope that wasn't gay lol)
Basically, modify the angle of the neck with a little piece of wood under it, then feeding the fretboard with a bit of lemon oil, playing with the pickups height till I found the best balance, and checking the bridge and tremolo. And then new strings of course. But no piece replacement.
It means placing a thin piece of wood or plastic under your guitar neck to increase the neck angle. Google "guitar shim" or something similar; I've never had to do it myself so I can't offer much more help than this. Good luck.
Sorry to bug you so much. Its just that I've been looking a long time for an affordable guitar that is not only shortscale, but has a jaguar type vibrato set up :[
Sir, I recently watched a video from Wedgehead, whom also owns the sjm62. I was curious of your feelings on the guitar? They look wonderful. I really like the tone you and Wedgehead are getting out of these guitars. Are the SX guitars of decent quality? They sound really good. Thank you. You might check out Wedgeheads video as well. Both of you play fantastic!
The build quality is pretty decent for the (very low) price, good neck (nicely fretted), good pickups, the only weak point is the generic tuners. I would buy another one in a second!
hey, How does the sx w/ bigsby perform? im very interested in buying one but i know nothing about the quality.

Well - the tremolo is not easy to set up. Had some work on it, and I still have.

Very mellow stuff man...well done. I also own of of these and I would recommend it to anyone. Great with effects, distortion, Kaoss Pads, etc.

If I were to buy this guitar, what kind of amp should I get?
I love that Marshall Sound you got there :).

I still have it and still love it; still, the setup is not easy and rather tricky, I spent some time on the bridge and the tremolo but it works fine.

Man, I want one of these, but Rondo doesn't have any righty 57s in stock. Especially not in pale blue. Yargh!

And by 57s, I mean 62s.

Bang Bang. I love it.
You've made my mind up for me. I'm buying one.
TheSyndicate88 3 years ago
Love mine, too! Can't play nearly as well, though!
I needed a better nut, tuners, and a setup and I'm still under $150 for a sweet guitar.
And people like to say "what the hell is that?"

What's that music your playing 0:25?
scsweet 3 years ago
It's Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Lenny" if I'm not mistaken.

Maybe you should try shimming your neck if you haven't already.
INeedScissors61 4 years ago
hmm..thank first...
shimming my guitar's neck...how can i do that...and what it mean..do you mean adjust the trust rod?
arrayeniqma 4 years ago
It means placing a thin piece of wood or plastic under your guitar neck to increase the neck angle. Google "guitar shim" or something similar; I've never had to do it myself so I can't offer much more help than this. Good luck.

What are some good mods for it?
Levesque999 4 years ago
The bridge and the tuners should be replaced.
realdocloco 4 years ago
With what?
Modified mustang bridge?
I heard the pickups are inconsistant and that I should also shim the neck
Levesque999 4 years ago
And did you have to do anything with the frets?
Sorry to bug you so much. Its just that I've been looking a long time for an affordable guitar that is not only shortscale, but has a jaguar type vibrato set up :[
Levesque999 4 years ago
Rather an improved Jazzmaster bridge. The pickups are very good I thing, no need to change 'em.
realdocloco 4 years ago
Improved Jazz bridge? Like how? If you mean that its got one groover per saddle, why not a mustang bridge?
How are the pots?
Levesque999 4 years ago
sounds more like a strat than a fender jazzmaster to me. not bad for $120

what is the difference between the SJM-62 and SJM-57 ? Were there problems with the 57 that they fixed with the 62? Hmm...
verstandlich 4 years ago
I may be wrong but the difference is that the'57 has a maple fretboard and the '62 a rosewood one.
realdocloco 4 years ago
it lacks about 80% of the qualities that make a jazzmaster a jazzmaster. but its a damn fine guitar for the money.
bib4tuna 4 years ago
i agree but what does it lack in your opinion? whats the 80%? is the real thing worth more than 2k more?

The electronics are a little weak, too. Pots & switches go bad. Cheap fix, though. This one has a nice, gritty P90 tone to it.

it would be good if it had an ass
insecureshoe 5 years ago
hows the neck speed and tuning?
insecureshoe 5 years ago
"speed" is decent, more like a strat than a Jackson of course ;-) . Tuning is really stable, even when using thetremolo bar.
