IT depends what fish u have how big is ur tank and ur local town water quality, i do 10% water change a week on my 150g coz i have a few oscars and their dirty little bastards and i have good quality tap water so all i do is keep the water in a bucket with air filter and chemicals u need, then after a week of bubbling and settling i take out the water and add the bucket water, and no problems for 5 years now

You can keep him in there , you should only change about 25%weekly or if not weekly do 50% a month . But Its will not harm him at all to keep him in . If u want to take him out make sure you put him in something with the water from your tank and not tap water , this way he dont go through shock from temp or chlorine .

Dont lkisten to those people from expertvillage.

First of all if you have a biologic balance you need to do a water change of 25% a week.

Since you don´t have any biologic balance you need to 2x 20% water change) 4 weeks long after that your tank will be perfect' becuase of the ammonia and nitrite that will build op becuase there is no bacteria yet in the filter or gravel.

Man o man. Today I lost all my saltwater fishes 4 of them 2 chromes, a tomato clown fish, and a beautiful file fish.

I had old live sands in my tanks that I washed a few weeks ago and filled my whole tank with new spring-water + salt. The fishes were fine. the only part of the filter that you shouldnt change, is the biological media. the mechanical and chemical media need to be changed. the mechanical media eventually clogs, and the chemical media doesnt work forever.

Don't over feed for sure uf you use the fakes , just make sure you add as much they can eat in 10 seconds , then when the finished the food you can add a little , and it won't make a mess.

monthly water changes are detrimental to fish health, if you ever need to do a water change, then your tank isn't being "maintained properly".

green algae will grow in a tank with metal halides, that are only on for 6 hours. their is no general rule of thumb with algae. it has to do with light wave lengths, and color.
