  • Ok, thank you :(

  • I have a 66 mustang, what would i need to replace to fix this ? The line that goes from the carb to pcv?

  • @davidgolden00 Wow i haven't worked on a 66 in such a long time i forgot.

  • @richpin06a will coolank spill if the intake manifold is removed?

  • @omarG19100 Yes it will.

  • on a bmw e46 330i 2004 and get codes p1071 and 74.. any suggestions?

  • @oscarv362370 Sounds like you have a possible air leak.

  • @richpin06a and where else should i aim, i aimed towards the intake, every single hose and nothing.. thanks

  • Hey i have a 2000 saturn sl with 150000 miles and it misfires at idle, here is what i have done to it: i replaced fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, ignition coil, pcv valve, idle air control valve, and i have cleaned the fuel injectors, throttle body and egr. my next guess would be vacuum leak. do you have any suggestions?

  • @dansschurman This engine SOHC for the years 00-02 is known for bad intake manifold gaskets.Have you done a computer scan and checked for intake leaks.

  • @richpin06a I just used propane and WD40 and couldn't find any vacuum leaks. I will keep looking and keep you posted. thank you

  • @richpin06a Now i am getting a p0301 trouble code. any suggestions?

  • @dansschurman On that year car it is very possible you have a bad intake manifold gasket.

  • @richpin06a just an update i did the intake manifold gasket and its still misfiring.

  • I've got a 1993 buick regal with a 3.1 and it has some horrible problems I've overheated it many time not know (after buying the car) that the water pump was broke and spraying antifreeze everywhere in the motor.... after getting engine cleaned, oil changed, idle position sensor changed it still idles bad ONLY when it is warmed up. If the car is cold It has no problems. Could this be a vacuum leak??? I really want to fix the car but have no idea what is causing the problems

  • There is also oil or antifreeze on top of the motor in a little puddle but I haven't wiped it out to see what it was (just found it today)

  • @helloitsmelol097 I think i would start by looking at the coolant temp sensor and the O2 sensor.A scan tool would make checking them pretty easy.

  • Joint would work fine. Smoke one about halfway...wait 10 minutes and then the bad idle (or whatever) won't matter anymore.....

  • i have a 97 saturn looks to be about the same car here, and i think either the egr solenoid is bad or there is a vacuum leak.

it starts to idle at 2000 rpms instead of just under 1000 and whenever i try to accelerate, the rpms drop to nothing and it almost dies but it goes back up the second i let off the accelerator. any suggestions?

(it has all new fuel filter, new spark plugs and working fuel injectors)

  • @raptor17d Did you try this test.

  • @richpin06a yes and the idle did not change from what i could tell

  • @richpin06a I have a Mazda MX6 1994, it has this problem, after starting it, if I don't keep the RPM over 1k or over it cuts off, in other words, it wont stay idle, it turns off. Would this be caused by a vacuum leak?

  • @LXBD Yes that could be a vacuum leak.

  • i donyt kmnow

  • The Caaaaa

  • Oh yes a joint would work, but you would have to roll a fat one"no seeds" lol start huffing and puffing , and don't burn yer fingers...enjoy.

  • Oh yes, I did forget guys, do not puff that cigar over the engine...for obvious reasons...be safe

  • Hey, try this! Light up a honking fat cigar, take a nice drag, and blow it into a good vacuum port.( engine off) the more puffs the better! And watch for that smoke!!, and there you go, and to think they want at least a $grand$ for SMOKE machine...huh??? Who's blowing smoke now.

  • @karlakatie2215 Would a joint work.

  • can i check it with carb cleaner???

  • @Mexicanorockero Yes you can.

  • Hey rich, do you have any ideas to make a Home made smoke machine...that would be awesome, trying to track down some mysterious hissing noise on my Saturn, (did the carb cleaner test, and everything good. Any help would be great.....a grateful fan.

  • @karlakatie2215 Interesting idea i must investigate.

  • @Richpin06a, after finding the vacuum leak location, can you please tell us in general how to fix these leaks at various locations? E.g. do we need to change hoses ? Tighten nuts & bolts? Use glue or sealant at the leak location etc...?.

  • its ray ramono, no doubt about it lol

  • then when you find the leak the brake cleaner will ignite off the hot cat and burn your saturn to a crisp. problem fixed.

  • i know how to find it but how do you fix it??????????

  • @iant4 depends were the leak is.

  • Thaht cahb cleanah is wicked pissah!

  • @bcubed72 Ha you talk like me lets lets go to the packy and celebrate.

  • NOT GOOD TO USE BRAKE CLEANER ON RUBBER HOSES.. eats rubber and you will have pinholes.. lol lol

  • CAAAAAAAAAARB CHOKE.

  • what the problem is the car running and press the gas immediately shut down

  • you do sound like ray romano loll!

  • @freeyuh I just might be ray romano you never know

  • @freeyuh

Actually he sounds like Ray's cousin, Gerard....neow. neow......now.....RIGHT NOW, RIGHT NOW!!!

  • I understand spraying around for the vacuum leak but I wouldn't use brake clean. You want to use something that is sensor safe and brake clean is definitely not sensor safe. I am not trying to be smart just simply trying not to wipe out a O2 sensor. These newer cars O2 sensors are quite sensitive and it doesn't take much to wipe one out. I would use only throttle body cleaner because its sensor safe. Just my personal opinion.

  • Some of the pronunciation in your speech reminds me of Peter Griffin from Family Guy!

  • @desaad37 Am i Peter Griffin or Ray Romano only my barber will know....lol

  • @desaad37 ... New England accent, no doubt about it.

  • Useless video, it does not demonstrate anything .most problematic vacuum leaks cause engines to run rough or if the leak is large enough will cause the engine to stall out when a vehicle comes to a stop. Unregulated air that leaks through below the throttle plate is called Manifold vacuum and any vacuum above the throttle is called Ported vacuum. Ported usually supports vacuum sensors and mechanical devices that only need to operate off idle. 99% of vacuum leak problems that cause the engine to

  • What's a "Caaahhhhhb?"

  • Somthing I wanted to share with you,I use my boost leak tester as a vacuum tester I made and costed about $7 which is basically a coupler/tire stem/pvc cap then hook it to the manifold,Add about 8 psi of air pressure and if pressure drops I use soapy water and spray any likely places till it bubbles up,Most times I can just hear where the leak is,Somtimes its unlikely places like brake booster diaphram but the boost leak tester finds em everytime in my experiece,Give it a shot somtime =]

  • @bloodieduckies I like it.... do you have a video of it.

  • @bloodieduckies yea that works for stuff before solenoids but if you have a cracked line or whatever post solenoid, and its not manually actuated as they do with the real EVAP tests, your tester will not find it.

  • When a vehicle has a vacuum hose leak, does it cause the car to vibrate violently when you get up to a certain speed? Also, when you come to a complete stop (red light, stop sign), does the car sometimes cut off? If that's not the cause of a vacuum hose leak, then what is?

  • My Idle want down Rich..How would i fix that? I did watch some of ur videos about the idle..but not about this.

  • @BertLane1988 Fixing it depends on were the problem is. You have to pinpoint were the hole is it could be the intake gasket or a vacuum hose.

  • Ok I have a 2001 Saturn Sc1..I wish u could've point that video to were u Spray the Cleaner. So I know what u did.

  • U have Facebook?

  • Comment removed

  • is it ok to use those sprays i mean wouldnt that stuff get sucked in if u do have a leak?

  • can you do this on a car with a carburetor ?

  • @atoxx1 yes you can

  • What I wouldnt give for you to have a intake manifold gasket removal and install video. Saturn wants to rape me 600 part and labor whos got the lube?

  • @bluedogfish2 If i ever get one that needs a gasket i will be all over it.

  • @bluedogfish2 buy a service manual for your car. google 'factory service manual ___make, ____model, ____year' I'm a novice mechanic but replaced the intake headers gasket on my car 1st try, in a couple days, by myself but it was a pain in the ass because it was a toyota mr2.. your saturn should be much easier.

  • this is very very useful video! i was going to replace the fuel filter and use some fuel injection cleaner bcuz i was having problemw ith my idle and misfire problem. i was told i might have a vacuum leak. im going to test this first before i do any of other tune up

  • hey! this was a great vid :) I have a problem with my car as well, But it seems to jump rpm's ???? and at cold start it will not stay started at all unless i warm it up??? any ideas?? I have a 1994 honda civic turbo coupe 1.5L w a obx intake manifold. I was told to replace the throttle cable with a 1995 acura gsr To fix the problem? It just doesn't sound right?? if you can txt me plz do 719-778-2873 thanks

  • How about a propane bottle?

  • When you Pahk yah cah do ya put a quatah in the meetah? LOL (No Offense!)

Most of my family is iin Boston, I love the accent!

  • yes.. lol

  • gracias amigo you just saved my job brother

  • This TOTALLY works! I would try not to spray too much all over the place - sensitive injectors, etc. I sprayed briefly and directly at the mating surface between the manifold and the cylinder head and my idle jumped up as soon as the carb cleaner touched it!

  • I use water with a bit of dish soap. Its safer (not flamable) and doesn't damage anything if it goes in the wrong place.

  • Vacuum leak means its sucking in air.

I wouldnt be using this method as the car would be sucking in water etc... The water method works on anything that is pressurized.

  • Your engine intakes more air through the intake on a damp day. The soap in the water creates a very temporary seal and is why the engine RPM changes when the soap momentarily seals the leak.

  • water alone would damage the engine. i dont get what you are saying? giving false information so that people can damage their engine?

    you are evil

  • No, the amount of water that will go through a leaking spot in a vacuum leak is far less than the ambiant water in the air on a damp day. We're talking about a couple of squirts of a spray bottle. Its really the soap that provides the temporary seal such that you can easily hear the difference in RPM. I've been a mechanical engineer for 15 years.

  • ah, ok. i respect a mechanic. i didnt even know you can use water for this purpose.

  • oh and since if we are looking to find the leak, why would you want to use soap since it only help for temporary seal? unless you mean temporary for about few min seal than i guess i understand what you are saying. but if its just few month seal than theres no need to repeat the step over since you can just fix the leak for permanently

  • I mean temporary like a few seconds. You'll notice the difference in RPM as the soap creates this temporary seal, indicating the area you just sprayed is the area of leak.

  • @BlueRice

umm you don't want to be spraying something in there if there is no leak. the point is to quickly find out if the error is from a vacuum leak or if it is something else wrong for instance fuel filter or map sensor or oxygen sensor.

  • @jmyjms86 my car has misfire problem. what could it be? i fix vacuum leak thru my exhuast it helps. but the problem still persist. senor is ok since theres no check engine light. i change spark plug but i habvent change spark wire. i might need to change that too?

  • @BlueRice dude im have the same problem bro, if i have a vaccum leak will it make my truck miss, and my truck started to make a high pitch whinning noise? WTF

  • Thanks mate!

  • Hi Rich, could you make a video showing us how to remove the inside rear door panels and repair the power window mechanism? thanks again.

  • thanks for your great video. Besides posting the repairing video, it will be great if you can post more maintenance clips, such as coolant change.

  • Another fantastic video, thank you very much.

I was wondering if you could some video on EVAP systems or transmissions, thanks.
