They're not trying to swing they're playing dotted eighth sixteenth, as Gershwin originally wrote it. These are all good enough musicians to play swing well if they needed to.
tbh he might as well of played a clarinet, i sounds the same, basically, matey, your sounds isnt beefy enough i know everyone will be like "omg shut up he is amazing" yeah, saxes arent meant to sound 10/10 cos that boring, they need some soul, man
Agreed. It's a shame the tune is so classically framed, too. It reminds me of the other version of summertime on here, with the operatic soprano. Ella wouldn't sing it like that, and Coltrane wouldn't play it like this.
i like this arrangement and this is a killer sax player one dude commented mistaking it for a clarinet its a beautiful classical sound..any one know his set up?
Anyone who interferes with this perfect melody risks real trouble and these folks are no exception. The added material doesn't really add anything and it is not in the same spirit of the original.
hey, does anyone know the name of one of Gershwin's tunes that someone later added lyrics to and made it a pop tune??? sorry for the vagueness!!!! It's like asking "hey, do you know that one guy from the U.S.? ha Seems like it may have been 'smile' or something happy like that....Thanks in advance!
I like the arrangement (the clarinetist could have use more soul, however!); and I was intrigued by the foreign interpretation and cultural mix infused in the piece, sort of Porgy meets Beethoven... it would, however, be more of a masterpiece if the lyrics were sung, since they are so powerful and heartfelt gliding above the syncopated chord changes...
Umm... clarinet? Go listen to the clarinet. Listen for the vibrato.
Don't worry, I'll be here when you get back. Really. I'll be here.

Style aside, I thought this was wonderful.

yeah ... the 1st part could be clarinet, but when you listen to the lower notes you can (I can) tell it's alto saxophone
And saxes sure don't sound 10/10 so thumbs up for you

Not a fan. Where's the rasp and feeling? A sax shouldn't sound like a clarinet.

mmm, Gershwin was Jazz then? Not really, go and do your homework.

Gershwin would be ashamed. Damn classical players trying to pull off jazz. They ought to stick to Well-Tempered Clavier selections.

Gershwin is the original composer of Summertime..This is organised quite differently

that's funny, because summertime wasn't even a jazz song originally. it was part of the operetta "Porgy and Bess".
