  • Can you set up a download link for this please

  • This is great, I could never run the full version, I had no HDD on my amiga, neither money to buy it. Thanks!!!! great video.

  • This must have been the most exciting 9 and a half minutes of his life

  • Thanks for this hd dragon's lair.. W don bluth

  • Don Bluth's best talent--sexy, sexy ladies.

Oh yeah, and the animation thing.

  • Quality so high!!!

  • wow the princess is hawt!!

  • It was also broke all the damn time!

From a Chucky E Cheese game room attendant circa 1982ish

  • This game seemed more like an interactive cartoon than a game since it features Disney style animation. And for a game that was released back in 1983, this was very revolutionary.

  • I was 23 years old when this came out. Cost me $ .50

  • I'm 12 and what is this

  • XDDD the screaming!!! hilarious, best guy scream ever

  • Princess Daphne didn't sound like she was serious about being rescued, the dragon must have drugged her.

We all know what all those quarters were for, to save such a hot princess.

  • Was the original print in 16:9/widescreen?

Or was it shot on 4:3?

  • With the endless quarters I put into this game, I probably could've purchased my OWN Dark Castle!

  • lol me too!! so funny!

  • i wonder if, with todays technology, they could make a game like this, but with full control of the character? it would be awsome if it could be done, but there'd be a heck of alot of animations to do (unless its already been done, then forget what what i said)

  • :-) thanks a lot, and very good quality :-)

  • how does the gameplay actually work? you don't seem to have full control over the character.

  • @Duiss You move the stick either up, down left or right. It's a timing sequence. You have to time it just right. The animation takes over after you move the stick. There are at least 20 rooms to beat. A few are easy, just one move of the stick and you pass. Some you have to move the stick about 5 times in different directions. Once you move in the wrong direction you can't go back. You just watch Dirk die. Not as easy as it sounds. But fun.

  • for 1983, it was way ahead of it's time!

  • I'm sure they loved the challenge.

  • She's not all there is she huh?

  • Excellent quality.

I remeber the entire arcade going nuts when I finally killed that damn dragon!

    Score one hot princess.

  • All that to save a stripper... she must give REALLY good lap dances...

  • SUCH HIGH QUALITY!!!!!!

  • you'll go through all sorts of crazy shit for love.....or lust ;)

  • "Use the magic sword!" Can you say euphemism, boys and girls?

  • I love the animation on this and Space Ace, it looks different than a regular animated movie. I would rather watch a movie animated in whatever way they did this than the animated movies then and now.

  • Now all Dirk needs to do is get out the way he came in but while carrying Daphne

  • @ninjakram Funny we don't get that adventure (unless there's another way out of there that Daphne knows herself).

  • dope

  • thumb up if you watch the family guy episode when peter was gay lmao!

  • @inktown2theyak Isn't that when he says he almost conquered the Dragon's Lair? Lol x

  • How come this is in 720p? I though LaserDisc was just standard def.

Also, this is 16:9. Has it been cropped/pan&scanned or something? (the original game was 4:3).

  • @OMA2k The animation was originally made on film, then digitally transferred to laserdisc. The latest Blu-Ray version was a high-def transfer directly from the filmstock, not just copying and cleaning up the standard def laserdisc version. The result is sorta like the difference between taking a 3MP photo of a painting then cleaning it up to look sharper vs. just taking a 12MP photo instead.

  • @Pkmatrix I see. So it's a new transfer from film. Since the video title says "Original Arcade Movie Sequence", I thought the video was taken out of the actual arcade video game.

  • @Pkmatrix It's certainly a different in the time between when the film was first mastered back in '83 to when the high-def transfer was made. I certainly see the difference.

  • Man, this would be inexcusable as a modern release. It's basically one giant quicktime event.

  • ljsaldkfjsldfj this game >:U FRIGGEN HARD

    the knight looks cute ^.^

  • is this some kind of game or movie? because if it is, it looks damn hard

  • @createDXemnas This is an arcade coin-op game from the early 80s. It looked really cool back then, when the arcade games used to have graphics like PacMan and Space Invaders, this came and everyone was amazed at the amazing "graphics", but really this was just a very well animated cartoon movie played on LaserDisc with some quicktime events added on top.

  • lol thanks for giving us all the cheats....

  • It is my imagination? But in the arcade version when Daphne tells Dirk where the Magic sword is some more balancing objects go to fall down so Dirk catches them brilliantly apart from one cup that falls to the ground and awakens the Dragon (this is done in a funny way and adds something to the game) I am the only one who has seen this and it definitely happens but on your Movie sequence and the Blu Ray and DVD version this does happen. Just wondering why?

  • Could you post Space Ace in HD like this? Please!?!

  • @wattsink2009 Hell yeah!! Space Ace was awesome

  • Were those the actual voices to this game? Jeez they're awful. Still, fun to watch.

  • @NuGhost Those voices were done by Don Bluth's animators to cut cost. Princess Daphne has one of the most obnoxious female voices in all of animation!

  • Since when are laserdiscs HD?

  • Thumbelina!

  • Dirk only speeks one word in the entire game.

  • where to get the laser dic images of dg2? need to burn in a cd, or can it run in hd from daphne?

  • I loved this game! I even liked watching other people play. It was a classic in its time.

  • an awesome game even though I never beat the game.

  • In my opinion, games today don't even look this cool. This was 25 yrs ahead of it's time.

  • oh my god >_< i recognize the art from the kids animated movie Thumbelina, because the chick is the same Thumbelina but blond and everything showing xD i feel like i just lost part of my childhood hahahahaha

  • @fabeezzy that's because Don Bluth made this game, the same guy who made the first Land Before Time and All Dogs go to Heaven

  • the girl is both hot and annoying...

  • Cool!

  • This brings me back.. I never did beat it but still.. I wish I could find an emulator or a download for pc

  • can anyone tell me where 1:01 sound comes from? or if in this game, where can I download?

  • for that chick... i would do a lot more

  • can anyone direct me to a website where they have the funny sound effects of Dirk when hes yelling or something lmfao fuccing hilarious

  • Wow...that really takes me back....probably almost thirty years...that game was the shit!!!!!

  • watching this video is 10 times better than wasting 5$ on the iPhone app

  • great high-def walk-through. The game was fiendishly difficult in places and certainly made you cough up an awful lot of quarters, especially some tricky moves on the last stage..

  • 3:10 Yes that's right, our hero is looting the battlefield

  • The random scenes of her clapping and ooying are actually to toss you off balance because your massing buttons in a rythmic fashion there

  • inquietante... i mostri di fango e gli scenari onirici mi hanno sconvolto!

  • The guy who did the sound to this should be shot~ lol

  • The ending is quite odd - no "Congratulation" or something like that and even the heart did not close fully.

  • Wow. It's great to see this again.

    Seeing 1:39 brings back memories.

  • people must've shat bricks seeing this in 1983

  • heh, heh, her highbeams are on...

  • So was that the whole game right there-or are there different paths you can take?

  • Disney did Don Bluth wrong..He was a great artist/animator

  • Man. This guy went through hell for some dumb bimbo.

And I wonder what gamers from the 80's would say if we told them in 30 years we could just watch all the right answers?

  • @Xatike bro, this guy had it good. this guy was a highly experienced knight with a sword and shit who could run in circles and stab guys and what not in a series of challenges which equated to less than 10 minutes and at the end

gets some nudge nudge wink wink.

Think of how long Mario spent just jumping on shit, in far more dangerous scenarios for his blonde bimbo, who at the end fo it all just kissed him then got kidnapped again for th enext game. Hell did Link even get a kiss?

  • @Xatike But going by his response to rescuing her . . . they're a match.

  • There's only one way to win, but oh so very many ways to die!

  • I don't remember these sequences being in this order,,seems the lava men were next to the dragons lair and the whirlwind that blows the door off along with dirk was one of the very first being it was so easy to defeat,,seemed the easier ones was the first in the game and they got harder as the game progressed,,maybe my memory is wrong since its been 25 plus years ago I originally played it.

  • @snowmangsx1100

The sequences (apart from the first and the last one) were in random order, and sometimes they were reversed left-right.

  • The princess looks and sounds like a porn star. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • @iron1528 one of the makers had the inspiration of the princess while looking at a playboy

  • @iron1528 when drawing her they used playboy models as a reference.

  • @iron1528 And I did no less!

  • @iron1528 Well, yeah. The animation studio couldn't afford models, so they turned to playboy magazines. That's why Daphne stands and looks the way she does.

  • @iron1528 That's because they used Playboy to make her.

  • @iron1528

You gonna go through all that for a plain princess?

    You WANT a blue-eyed, blonde-haired porn goddess!

    Thumbs up if you agree.

  • @iron1528 Based on a playmate, so close enough. ;)

  • my uncle loves this game and boyfriend wants this game.

  • It was a cartoon series.

  • I like how he hums after battling the monsters. He might as well say "I got this."

  • princess = butterface

  • I wonder how much money the owners sunk into building that castle...

  • Oh my gosh, Daphne is ridiculous XD

  • The princes looks like a whore LOL

  • Man, I dumped tons of coins in this machine when I was a kid. Dragon's Lair & Space Ace were so ahead of their time! Anybody remember the third laser disk arcade game that featured a car chase & bank robbery? That was great too!

  • @edwoodification I was thinking the same thing about that one about the car chase and bank robbery, I can remember it looked similiar to anime in style, it was insane!

  • love this game, i got it on my PS3

  • Absolutely amazing graphics, this game was well ahead of its time

  • This game had the best graphics of its time.

  • Why do the sound effects remind me of ryan stiles on whose line...

Innovative game, the use of video was unheard of back then, now its vastly overused :(

  • First game I can remember that cost a whopping 50 cents to play. I wasted HUGE amounts of money playing this thing back in 1983...

  • this game was for me always sily cause it was ashort game once you know what to do!!!

  • wow

    it's absolutly gorgeous!

  • Loving how the comments give away peoples ages... Anyone who can't appreciate this game and thinks that the alternative 'new wave' beats it hands down has to realise that games like this, on tech like that paved the way for the games played today. They were obviously born after the laserdisc era died. The people who made this were just regular joes with TALENT! Not much of that about these days, just rips of old ideas dressed up in new tech!

  • @GetawayFilms This game is epic! A real game! And space ace as well! Two of the hardest to play games i have ever played in my life! And the most fun, too! This is what a real game is like, these new games are too repetitive and just a bunch of rip offs from other games before today!

  • I put someone's children through school playing this game back in the day. I could not play this game to save my life...

  • It must be cold in that dragon's chamber. Yeah. That also explains why she wiggles around so much... >_>

  • imagine how much money someone would spend on this kind of game O_o...

  • Only ten minutes? I can't believe it.

  • I read somewhere that Daphne was supposed to be embarassed of her skimpy outfit. "Supposedly". So much that she's still wearing it in the sequel. Uh-huh.

  • We lined up for this awesome video game in a small game room where I worked in 1983. No one can get it the first few times but you learn by dying. I also watched others in between playing to learn the right moves. After spending at least $30 in quarters (50 cents a pop) I finally won it. Then I'd go back later and show off while others watched. I became the master instead of the apprentice! Loved the princess & her "oohs" and "ahhs!" I never liked pacman back then, this game was more addicting.

  • @mikeycereal Same here. I got so much attention when I got close to finishing the game, and at times had like 10 people crowded around the game. Great memories!

  • wait a second....i saw a version where there was gore and daphne and dirk where sucking face at the end.

  • that's one fucked up Lair

  • Dirk sounds kind of like Homer. Maybe same voice actor?

  • Gotta love the shit-eatin' grin he has at the end xD

  • Hardest video game EVER.

  • Whoever did the sounds for Dirk is so god damn awesome.

  • i cuss so i won't screech personally...

  • the death scenes were half the fun of this game though

  • that lizard can't hit the broad side of a rhino's rump!

  • can't get enough of that golden crisp!

  • my bad also has a "hmmm" sound effect also.

  • why does this dude only have "yelp like a bitch" as a sound effect?

  • I can see why Dirk was so motivated in rescuing Princess Daphne........hell who wouldn't be? GOTTA LOVE THE 80's

  • who was taking lsd when they thought of this

  • what a fucked up castle....

  • I would like to see at some point a side-by-side comparison of the original laserdisc quality compared to the HD video taken from the original film negative.

  • @TochMaarNetOpTijd XD yes. But I suck at pooping. lol I mean youtube pooping XD

  • This game, almost as old as me now, is was SO FAR ahead of its time.

  • you saved me now peapare for the adventer of your life. sex

  • cacchio che qualità!!!!

  • I would still play this if I could find it lol.

  • @othur You can get the DVD of this on Ebay, I have it, and play on your DVD player.

  • This would have absolutely rocked as an animated film.

  • @Ambaryerno I can't remember what film I am thinking of but I'm sure who ever the head artist was for DL was apart of a few movies.

  • @dallasdoby3 The artist/Art Director was Don Bluth. The guy's a legend.

  • @HardyHarz Thanks dude, I was trying to figure that out forever.

  • @Ambaryerno ...it is, and yet it isn't. But I know exactly what you mean. If this was a full-on animated film instead of just a game, it would've been even better, the guys behind it would be paid even more, and Don Bluth would have even more of a legendary reputation as one of the most kick ass artist/animators ever.

  • all that only for sex!

  • @robasci00 Some of the BEST SEX EVER...

  • I love High Definition videos.

  • now that was an enjoyable Adventure

  • I think that castle needed a refurb anyway, falling to bits!

  • Dirk Diggler?

  • guy sounds like Homer Simpson screaming.

  • Tear that ass up dirk! you earned It!

  • @sinz718 dude best comment hear

  • You know for a guy named "Dirk the Daring" he sure does scream like a little girl

  • Dirk the Daring...I doubt it, he squeals girlishly constantly. Hah hah. XD

  • *nerd alert* I remember that, a long time ago, me and some friends would get our toy swords and reenact the entire thing :)

  • Heavy Rain '93

  • @DrMatta You mean Heavy Rain '83

  • i'm so glad this didn't become the norm for video games. art is great but that's about it.

  • the princess voice sounds awkward almost like a guy was voicing her

  • The Lizard King (beginning 2:43) is my favorite VG villain.

  • That princess is pretty hot for a cartoon...

  • Dirk is a total fag, especially when he's riding the horse!

  • @SomeWhereInTheSouth

You wanna try doing half the stuff he's doing and make it look any less awkward, difficult, and painful? Like getting burned, eaten, stabbed, electrocuted, or slammed into walls? Be my guest.

  • From what I heard, this game pushed laserdisc to the MAX, and the arcade machines often broke down. But the game was so popular, the repairs were worth it.

  • Can't believe there aren't super long youtube poops of 0:48 playing OVER AND OVER AND OVER again.

  • A game that was SO FAR ahead of tis time back in the early 80's. Oh the money I used to sneak out of my parents pockets and pocketbook that was spent trying to win this game. I made it to the dragons lair a couple times but never beat the game. I did however own a copy of this on either Sega Saturn or Sega CD (forget which) and did beat it there. Man.. classic. This game would still play good today.
