Unimpressive mpg considering it's size. Way too expensive for what it is. Cheap looking interior. I would be very concerned driving a car this tiny should I ever be in an accident with it. Very little cargo space. I don't see any positives to owning this car.

I'm interested in the iQ. I live in Chicago and parking is a bitch. The city mpg on this thing is actually a lot better than Hyundai's. The pricing is a little ridiculous, but it's understandable with the standard safety features. I don't mind paying extra for the Toyota dependability, as compared to Smart and Hyundai's sketchy record. And with the recent college rebate, it's actually priced the same as a yaris hatchback.
@sweeneywi With Hyundai's 10 year warranty, I would choose that over Scion's 3 year warrenty. Also the 2012 Accent is cheaper and gets 40pmg highway. Personally, I would get the 2012 Kia Rio, check out the hutchback for city parking
Jesus Christ... buy a Hyundai Accent. 13k, twice the room, 140hp, and 40mpg on the highway. This thing is for little old ladies and hipsters. Who, will either think it's "adorable" or get sick of it after a month.
anybody who buys this is nuts. 15k for this little turd? first off a car this small should be getting well into the 40's mpg wise. 2nd a little pos like this should not crack the 10k mark. 3rd, this thing is a death trap. driving this car is only safe if everybody else is driving a small pos. hmm i wonder would would happen if the iq crashed with full size truck or suv.
Fail! This is america. We dont have limited space. We want more mpgs not smaller size. $15k ? That means $20k to buy. Looks cool as far as micros go but its going to fail.
You want gas mileage for cheap? Buy geo metro with a 1.0, 3 cylinder. 45 miles per gallon if you drive it right. Plus you can get a full set of new tires for under $120.
Yeah the pricing is way too high for something which amounts to the practicality of a Smart car. Highway mileage isn't as high as many more commodious compacts but the price is higher or the same. Its tiny size ONLY helps in the city and is a useless "benefit" everywhere else. Being a three seater with only enough luggage space for a bag that can sit in the extra seat is disappointing as well. Add to it that for its price its slow and has steel wheels (unless you pay even more) and it fails.
This car is overpriced by about $5,000, just like the Fiat 500. There's no reason why a car this small with a four cylinder engine should cost more than $10,000. It makes no sense, if you're going to build economy cars make them affordable! Otherwise what's the point?
@weapondrift You're telling me, I need CHEAP and reliable new cars, one of the Asian brands should come up with a car that debuts at about $8,000 dollars, now that's smart.
They need a manual. I like the idea of the 3+1. However, it should have a 50/50 split-folding rear seat so that they could us that "1" for storage and have one person in the back.
I’m full time college student living in the city and I'm looking for a new car. Realistically I wouldn’t pay anything over $12,000 for that car. I would rather buy a civic because it has more power and gets the almost the same amount of mpg’s.
@NattDogg01 I know but I rather spend the extra 3k and get better quality. My friend has a scion. They look cool but lack build quality. Or I can always buy a used civic for cheap.
@brownmokey All Toyota products do that. The reasonably-priced ones always have really sharp styling, but once you get inside, it really depresses you. A used Civic is always a good choice, you can get really nice ones for really cheap. You can even get the Si's for around the same price.
eww no way, id never buy that thing. I had to come see what it looked like too. Hes right though, scion is just ugly, no one really buys them. Toyota needs to dump the lineup or spice it up. And keep the FT 86 away from the scion brand.
Great review as always guys. But if I'm buying a scion, i want the xB and that thing sucks right now. It is literally a box with wheels and a engine. If they refine it i would get one, but it just feels like its just there. Need it to be more sophisticated to buy as a family/cruising car.
Everyone where I live wants big stupid ass redneck Ford F350s because its the redneck American dream. And they get 12 mpg, fucking retards. This is the way of the future.
I can see this being great for the ability to park it, and move around easily in dense traffic, but for the price, I really don't see why a person would take this over a regular sub compact car like the Accent/Mazda 2/Fiesta or the like.
It doesn't get any better mileage, it's fairly expensive and has absolutely no cargo room. The other cars I mentioned are not much harder to park, but they have so many more features. This isn't a bad little car, but for the price, it has better competition.
Most fuel efficient combined. This one gets 36 mpg in the city and 37 in the HW, with an average of 37. The Accent and Elantra may get 40 in the HW but I think less than 36 in the city, giving them lower average.
Regular performance in a super small car? This is what the Fortwo should have been.
But I hate to say it -- the average buyer would probably be able to justify the Fortwo more easily. At $15,265, this car is in the territory of a Focus/Aveo/Yaris/Versa/Etc, and the only thing this car has over them is being smaller.
Well, it is a step forward. Now Smart will have to step their game up too.
haven't we learned that Americans don't like small midget cars? the smart car has not sold well, how do you think this will sell? Lets focus on making 35+mpg SUV's instead.
Not a bad review but could have done well without the intro minute of scrwey video and annoying music.
I realize marketing types might tell you this brands your video. But just saying who you are and maybe having a logo will do that. This minute long intro was just simply annoying and it puts me off clicking on another of your vids.
@lacktopher ah ok, in europe i would say off the top of my head that the VW polo blue motion is the most fuel-efficeint non-hybrid :) ..... probs wrong.
@JogBird You can fit three comfortably. Two in the front row and one in the second row behind the passenger. The space behind the driver is pretty much useless though.
@AutoguideVideo for a 6'er like me, driving the iQ no one would have room behind me because i put the seat right to the back of the rails. However, depending on the size of the driver this vehicle becomes a full 4 seater. I will sit comfortably behind a 5.5'er in the plus one seat. Driver size makes a large difference between the usability of this car as a 3 or 4 seater.
I know it says it's made for the city, but 40 mpc? Isn't that cutting it close even for city driving?? Toyota has been ahead for a long time in the hybrid sector, you would think they would have been the first with a electric car, but I think the Nissan Leaf would be a better deal. After rebates, you only paying around 5 g more room and driving distance. Hopefully the Rav4 EV will be a lot better.
