Sounds like good advice cause catfish like oily fish / bait - however, I don't have a source for mackerel - I've read it spoils fast so probably great stink bait also (best guess). But again - no mackerel around here that I know about ?
No - I wish it was that easy - but in this heat the catfish are in the channel 'somewhere' that's cooler. Sometimes they are in the deeper holes just after you go under the bridge. Sometimes they are in the holes over by the dam (e.g. depth finder very useful)
Bottom line they move around but stay deep during the day in this heat - but they do NOT always bite - but if they are biting I now have faith in Secret-7 being the best bet
U can probably find sufficient bait fish in your lake, do you know if you have shad in it?

Do you live next to the river?

I live on a shallow lake (average 6 ft) formed from several creeks. In the summer heat, the creek channels are best bet during day time fishing
