It's about as fast as the original Cab Calloway recording, I think you'll find. I think we do normally play it a bit faster, though. We were going for raunchy and jazzy as opposed to fast and technical.
And really, I don't think going to Cab Calloway School of the Arts qualifies you to "know" all their is to know about music and Minne the Moocher. My old school had been playing this song for as long as its had a stage band, and that's probably longer than you've been alive. But thanks for your comment and opinion.
We have been doing this song since the school has been around. Before Mrs. Calloway died, she always came... and we learned a lot from her... and Minnie the Moocher.
Well, I'd say we're about even then. Either way, I think you'll find it's not much slower than the original recording. We enjoyed it, and our audience always did. :)
Yeah, we used this as our closing song, and our conductor would say things like, "We've been blah blah stage band, thank you for coming" etc over the top, so we didn't have vocals. Ours is only a simple arrangement, too. It was probably my favourite piece though. :)
I've got a brass band and solo bass trombone . I love it :D

Thank YOU for posting Tim Minchin videos. They are what made me subscribe and then I saw this. Our school band is nowhere near as good as this.

You're doubly welcome! YouTube's nowhere near as fun without Tim videos. Aw, I'm sure your band was good. Thanks!
