  • i recently read an article about buying a mod to make a non vtec into a vtec. does anyone know how much a mod like this would cost and if it would increase hp a significant amount?

  • @arcticmonkey487 Vtec is a lobe on the cam that engages, there is no possible way to make a non vtec into a vtec without putting a head on it

  • @glassbottomdinosaur I'm pretty sure he's referring to an LS/Vtec conversion kit, which is used IN ADDITION to a Vtec head, they work well, but LS/V is known for it's unreliability if done wrong. I'm not getting on you about anything.

  • @arcticmonkey487 Honda says VTEC adds about 30 hp. all it does is hold your valves open a little more and for longer. this allows more fuel and air into the motor. thus creating more HP. I would not recommend adding VTEC. it would cost way more than its worth. do intake,header,&FULL exhaust. then intake manifold and ECU

    you sir are an idiot if you think that 12.5 afr is ideal on a turbo car, especially on a stock block. when you tune for 12.5, i GUARANTEE your afrs will be in the high 13s on a colder day and in 1st-2nd gear...can you say BOOM?

  • dont quote me on this, but i think compressor surge is when some boost is released back through the turbo...

  • kronikally420-When you let off of the throttle to shift gears, and you were just in boost, then the compressed air being shoved through the IC piping has no where to go (since the butterfly plate in the TB is now closed) if the BOV isn't pulled open by its vac line. Usually because the spring is too stiff. The air is then forced back through the turbo, actually reversing the turbines rotation. Putting a huge strain on the turbo as you could imagine.

  • turbos dont spin backwards, the excess pressure will however slow it down a considerable amount, if the turbo actual spun backwards you would be forcing air into the exhaust, which would definetly pose problems for your engine... However their are engines that will acually run in reverse, look up an old detroit diesel 2 stroke

  • The impeller on the turbo is overwhelmed by back boost and it begins to spin in the opposite direction

  • Not enough charged air is releasing from the blowoff valve, so it hits the throttle body butterfly and conflicts with waste boost (charged air from a still spinning turbo) and creates tons of backpressure on the impeller. Basically, it'll kill a turbo pretty quick.

  • that things sweet for a stock motor running 8 psi.  is it hard to make a tune on turboedit? i got my motor fully built. ready for 9500 rpms and got a block gaurd welded in. block bored 20 over. gonna run 9,5,1 pistons or 8,8,1. any advice?

  • it wasnt hard for me to tune with turboedit but it took long because i had to keep burning chips...real time dataloging would be muchh faster n better

  • i would do a compression test and leak down test first and fix any oil leaks that you might have and go from there...my b18b was tha original motor in my DA with over 250,000 miles on it when i boosted it
