Where was this taken? I'm guessing Agadez? I've always heard it pronounced "Amenokal," but that's probably a different dialect. In Tchin-Tabaraden they are uilimedan.
The camel dancing is to impress the ladies in the middle of the circle, at least, that is what I am told. It's also fun and shows of their riding skills. I'm surprised nobody did anything exceptionally fancy on their camel, like walking them around on their knees or something.
