The version of Damien Rice alone singing it was amazing, I still can't find the youtube video. It is part how he tells the story of how he started writing the song by accident and how she stole it.

Possibly my favourite thing about Damien Rice is that his live performances are leagues above his album recordings. The recordings are fantastic, but it's pretty obvious that he loves performing live. He almost seems to forget that there is an audience at all, he's so absorbed in his music. It's as if he's simply playing for the joy of it.

It's a rather sad thought that this is something that sets him apart from other artists.

It's mostly a clash between the way the "couple" in this context think of each other, the fragile feelings given by Lisa and the confused, explosive feelings he has, which are depicted through the final part of the song through the chaotic, yet wonderfully blended sounds. Anyone who's felt that way will think that this song accurately expresses those feelings, it's supposed to make your heart race and immerse you, not relax you.

I think it's important to note the sublime editing of this performance. The fast switches and cut-aways between instruments and vocals really add to the musical cacophony and sense of urgency that is being conveyed in the latter half of the song. Truly wonderful work!

The thing I really love about Damien Rice (besides the fact that he's just all around fantastic) is how much he seems to love music and performing. Whenever he plays live, it's like he just forgets that there's an audience. He seems puts on these amazing shows not so much to impress others, but because that's what he wants to do.
