Also when nip training and litter training them (especially when you have multiples) you can give them time outs in their cage. We do it with both of ours and they have stopped many bad habits!

@SuperJeedee Yep. Just like rats, they are actually very affectionate towards their owners, even though they can play a little rough sometimes.

They're great, fun and playful, and honestly, they don't smell that bad if you take care of them, and in general.. though, something that is horrible, and true, is that they're extremely prone to life-threatening diseases like cancer. A lot of them don't see past a year.

@ImDaveCrazy if they proper bit yes! I find easiest way to nip train them is by making my hand into a tight fist and offering it them.. They end up nose nudging it and leaving it alone as nothing to grab onto.. Scruffing to they yawn has never worked for me.. Nipping doesnt hurt mind.. Mind you ive been bit by loads of animals I am immune to the pain now lol.. (i work in rescue and rehabilitate animals)

When my ferrets were babies they nipped at your ankles, you have to be dominant and say no firmly, also if you give them a quick blow on the face they will stop biting because the blow Is not pleasant for them and they will not bite you so as to not get blown on :)

@ImDaveCrazy Best way to stop them biting is if they bite grab them by the scruff of the neck and flick them hard in the nose. do that everytime the go too bite.

@t0nymillard I disagree completly, I always have flicked my ferrets on the nose and i have rarley been biten (well only if i had been handling food/meat) My friends and other hunters i have spoken too all flicked there ferrets and none of ours are afraid of us. I keep one of mine in the house and he is like a little puppy, he has no fear of me.

@bunneh87 girl ferrets are much smaller then the boys, at least mine is at 4 yrs still. but she still holds her own against the boys! :)

@ImDaveCrazy (Cont.) Ferrets squeak when they are hurt so I've heard if you squeak when they bite they realize it is hurting you and will learn not to bite so hard when playing. We've had quite a few ferrets and all of them have been play biters when we first get them but by just handling them a lot and working with them it's no longer a problem with them. Try getting books on ferrets or on the internet for ways to stop the behavior.
