I think what he's saying is that you shouldn't be "cocky" but confident. There's a huge difference. Cocky is when you're more or less over confident and show off WAY too much to others faces on how much better you feel, while confidence is just your OWN personal feeling on how well you're doing. It's always great to be confident, but never great to be cocky.

I feel like I'm a pro, but when I only get like two kills and 20 deaths I get discouraged but if you don't fight through it and keep playing you'll never get better. That's my view on the subject. This is a problem with many noob spies. They see an enemy Heavy - stalk him. Enemy Soldier - stalk him. Engineer - sap his machines. But if they see a Pyro, all confidence within them just dies. They ignore the Pyro, despite the fact that it could be a large threat, because they are scared of being caught. Now, I see a Pyro, I stalk and backstab without a second thought.
