Agreed, except the part about quarter speed, quarter power techniques that are trained non-reactively miraculously becoming "instantaneous" in a real attack. As someone who has trained in martial arts for twenty years including real fights and public full contact matches, I do not share this opinion. Joggers do not become world class sprinters. Almost all martial arts techniques are developed without a test outside the dojo. They are dazzling, and the teacher always does them best.
sting, if anyone wants to learn martial arts techniques they have to learn first in a cooperative manner. If you practice the techniques thousands of times then they become lodged in your muscle memory. Then, when they have to react to a real attack, it will be instantanious. If uke were told to attack viciously to an unpracticed Nage then Nage would never learn anything.
