wow i look at all the current artist trying to make all of us like their music by dressing up and screaming into a microphone... but when i look at all the music from back then it wasn't about getting public appeal it was about emotion appeal. people tried their best to stir our emotions and believe me they did and they still do. the artists back then really made the best music... i just wish that the people from this age would realize this and start making good music.
@mulgrath8901 Nailed in one. The so called "artists" of today are nothing of the sort.
Theyre hollow shells, theyve no soul, no heart and its reflected in the what they pass off as music as they wail and whine and fein emotion, so very very shallow.
The pity for them is they actually think that because a load of paid idiots big them up that theyre actually good, but theyre dire.
So many comments on yoube these days saying exactly the same thing- "whatever happened to music? to talent?"
As a kid, I thought John Taylor was coolest dude in the friggin world. When Seven and the Ragged Tiger came out, I MADE my mother buy me red gloves. I then proceeded to wear only one of them so I could look like John on the cover... God, I miss the 80's
hearing this takes me right back to my teenage days. I used to worship this band; it wasnt just their good looks either. This band were and are one of the best brit bands ever. Dont care what any haters have to say; they had great great pop songs and nobody can dispute that.
Great vid, very tounge in cheek, thats what i liked about Duran , they did'nt take themselves too seriously, they made entertaining videos, wrote great songs, did their part for live aid, but did'nt preach on about bullshit politics, or pretend to be suffering for their art like the tedious multi-millionaire diddums in U2 .
i'm glad to have been a teen-ager in the '80's. This is the kind of music we listen to during those days. and up to know, we still listen to the same kind of music. The decade of the 80's was magical. Great Songs, Great Bands, Great Movies, Great Sports. What can I say?
Duran appearing in the French Revolution? Yeah, the nazis would have been shaking in their boots at the site of Nick Rhodes dancing in the street at the end or Andy Taylor red shoes.
30 years later and this is the most puzzling Duran video they made?
I agree, one of the best 80`s songs. And nice to see them smiling ! Today people are mostly way too `cool\ to smile in music videos, and of course the less clothes on the the girls the better. Most videos today are porn. Possibly to cover up the fact that the music sucks.
Come on guys, music today is not pure crap, the music that the media send to us is horrible but we have a lot of new bands...we just have to look around...zero seven is one of this bands
@ManilaSyndicate It is a silly video and great song, but remember, it was MTV at it's infancy. They were all pretty bad, but cutting edge for it's time.
I love Marc the ''Hammer ''Colman He Came out of ''Hidding/Hayina'' Flowing with the ''Life Force'' and that False King ''Coutere'' iz woried His Ex-Lover, Wants to ''Know/Lay'' with Major/''Ajo'' Sex, and is on Killer grove Statuse' to relax. So Lioniduse... I brought the ''DeadBirds/Army of light'' and Made Bobby Reeves ''Laim'' with Jui-jitsu''; in 1995 II days after he tried to kill Me'' I yield.
Great song & video ever so slightly marred by the cheesy dancing at the end. Simon always had & still has such energy. Andy's cuteness was very underrated in the 80's however my fav was & always will be the omnipotent Nick Rhodes...........
Please! i`ve loose a video from "NMOM"... i saw it here about 3 months ago an it was a long 2 part video where you can see Simon leading by the girl to a basement where she explains him the plan.
esta es mi canción favorita.... no sé algo especial tiene me transporta, de niña cerraba mis ojitos y me imaginaba al lado de ellos mmmmmmmmm que hermosoooooooooo sería... cantando claro ;)
Duran Duran were so creative and almost neo-classsical in their lyrics, it was almost a religious lift that i got from their music- got me over the hump- until my real life started. I still love this music like i did 25-28 year ago.
It give such a promise of something so special- total fiction, i know- but the feeling is thick enough to cut with a knife!
Totally had anxiety tonight about buying my first home.......why didn't I turn to Duran Duran earlier???? Would have saved myself a half a bottle of great wine!!!!
I can't believe I never saw this video before. It wasn't on the Decade video collection. Guess that's why. Most of their videos I find inspiring for sci-fi/espionage/post-apocalyptic settings for stories. Best band ever? Maybe.
I like to think that mass anticipation for Communism's eventual collapse in Eastern Europe, which seemed so imminent throughout the 80s, is what inspired this video . . .
I loved these guys when I was in Jr. High, and have re-discovered them. Yes I'm in my 30's now, but could John Taylor look ANY hotter in this video? I think not...lol...
A few years ago they played at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. I was there on vacation but I didn't get to see the show. I kept hoping I would run into them while in the casino. I had dreams if I had met Simon, we would be married today. It didn't happen, but it doesn't hurt to dream.
=D all i can say is that i had and still do a love for this band, they got me through alot as a young girl. With the lyrics and amazing videos took my imagination away from the hurtful reality i was living!
IM intrigued by your comment...for me, Duran Duran filled the same void. I see it as escapism and escaping the gloomy scottish weather, the poor economic backdrop of central scotland and transported to an imagery laden landscape that Duran Duran created. I think that is why they contrasted the serious political and fashionalbe 80s bands of their time. Im male and not gay and can say Duran Duran are incredible to be able to take you out of your environment and into a new one - eg Rio
I think this video is brilliant. Great setting, as usual for Duran Duran, and just amazing chemistry between the band members. I just love the part where they're all singing and dancing together at the end. They're adorable.
This week VH1 Classis aired the best 10 videos of Duran Duran, who are my favorite band of all times. I just disagree in one thing: Rio was #1, I don't think so. Wild Boys tops all, and Union of the Snake is wonderful
does anyone know the reason the band references the number 7 alot in their works? 7 and the ragged tiger and in the song my own way, Simon says 7 up at the end?
And don't forget "The Seventh Stranger" on the album Seven & The Ragged Tiger haha. The only thing I can think of is the fact that it's a Biblical number.
And don't forget "The Seventh Stranger" on the album Seven & The Ragged Tiger haha. Well, in terms of the album title, it represented the 5 band members + 2 managers. Besides that, seven is a Biblical number...but I dunno if that's a reason.
You got the seven part perfect. The "Ragged Tiger" was a wish for luck (sucess) for the album. If there ever was any deeper meaning to it they never told the fans!
Seven as in the five of them and the two Berrow brothers (Micheal and Paul) managing them @ the time. And @ the end of My Own Way, he is just mentioning drinking 7UP, the lemonlime soft drink.
it seems like music videos dont mean much to the newer artists , its almost like some artists want to make the money and then run . duran duran know how important music videos can be especially if bands really want to sell their music and make money. i wish they would release reportage !!
We are talking of the 80s. Every popular group or artist would make half a dozen videos per album. Or was it that the half a dozen videos per album made them popular groups or artists? Just how many top 10 songs didn't have a video? Few, I guess.
Yeah that is true. Its the creative product that made Duran Duran unique - the used Hollywood - High Concept ideas as was used in TV shows like Miami Vice in order to promote themseves. That was a new process at the time plus making the music industry more interesting with new videos. Its safe to say that Duran Duran set the bar on music and video integration during the early 1980s. if you watch most videos of that era they are cheaply made. Duran Duran used Hollywood filmmakers to make theirs.
Rio, Hungry like a wolf, A View to a Kill, New Moon on Monday and several others are masterpieces. Huwie Lewis and the News also made some great stuff. Following Duran Duran's footsteps?
I remember just before DuranDuran got big, they played in Detroit@Clutch Cargo's.A Skin Head was in the crowd. He leaped off the top speakers and landed on a bunch of New Wavers.During intermission, many there had gotten hurt and had blood on them. When he tried it again, the crowd beat his Ass! Duran, never stop playing through all of this!
Good Lord.........can someone PLEASE tell me WHY no one makes videos like they did in the 80's,anymore?? This is a classic! Back when music-videos told a story!!Almost like watching a mini-movie!! AWESOME!!

There is nothing like being in your apartment with your amazing city view.....watching this on your nerdy Duran Duran DVD and dancing your butt off!!!!!
there are two versions of this song... one has the gal that's driving the motorcycle being tortured, strung up on chains... which is why when she swings the flag around later it's supposed to be more powerful...

Ryan - probably the best video of the 80's next to...RIO!
Pick up the remastered version of Tiger, its fantastic sounding...or listen up on my 80's playlist!

there are two versions of this song... one has the gal that's driving the motorcycle being tortured, strung up on chains... which is why when she swings the flag around later it's supposed to be more powerful...
