  • Christians and hippies home school their children to tell them "facts". The numbers on home schooling being better than private schools are incorrect. Actually, children that are home schooled vs. other schooling IN THE SAME INCOME BRACKET fall way below the others. Many home schoolers are told what to think and are given a hand picked history lesson in which anything that doesn't follow a certain mind set is not spoken of.

  • I home school so i can keep religion out of my childs education. They will never have to worry that some public school teacher will attempt to tell them facts are not facts. They will never be swept up in the brainwashing of religion. I can teach them about other peoples religious ideas as the fiction they are. I can teach them about the fact of evolution. I can teach them about what the founding fathers of our country really thought. We are not alone.

  • i home school so i can inject enough Christian beliefs into there heads so that any independent thinking is extinguished at the source

  • So, homeschool is about controling your children. Got it. I would think they would want their children to experience the good and the bad of the world, and make informed choices rather than be shell-shocked when mommy and daddy can't protect them.

    I find this very sad.

It should be about enriching your children in ways the inadequate public school system can't, not 'protecting' them from experiences of public education.

  • ..Because home schooled kids dont have to wait on everyone to move on to the next chapter. simple as that. its not abuse....

  • i cant help but feel the people who condemn home schooling just dont know what they are talking about. homeschooled kids can have social lives. they arent locked in cages all day. there are home school groups where parents ALL get together and teach, go on field trips, etc.

i wanted to be homeschooled as a kid because i didnt do well in a class of thirty... one teacher, even two, was not enough for that many children. in home schooling you can set the pace and a lot of kids learn FASTER.

  • Okay I think a lot of people in this discussion aren't speaking from personal experience. If you see education as brain-washing then you aren't looking at this right. You are saying in effect that the children in the world without an education are better off then public schooled with brain-washing. And how is standardized education any better or worse then an education that the child who really can't make decisions for themselves any better, after all most kids don't want to be schooled at all.

  • I think also that they should have a say in the matter. I want to homeschool my children but if they want to go to school they are free to go, is their choice. Well is all up to the individual child, I love my parents and always wanted to spend time with them.I wasn't homeschooled and as a teen I liked my freedom. Just do the best you can and follow your child's interest and it will be ok

  • I know nightfrog65. Most teens enjoy some freedom and independence...it's all apart of growing up.

  • It might be ok for small children, but why would a pre-teen or teenager want to spend 24/7 with their parents?

  • they don't! their selfish, over protective parents force them

  • @nightfrog65 My teenager does not spend 24/7 with me. She also chooses not to go to public school. Her age peers are "like small children or animals". She also LIKES her parents. We have spent so much time together as a close knit family unit that she ENJOYS our company. Imagine that.

  • @AlphaBrenda1

I don't doubt that your teen is well balanced socially, but most of the home-schooled kids who eventually transitioned into the public school I attended were sheltered and overly sensitive to the smallest negative remark by other kids . I was shy and nerdy back then, and they were even weird by my standards.

FYI, I love my parents and they never divorced or had major issues. That being said, most teens need space away from parents, especially in High School.

  • i wanna home school my kids so they would be happier. its not fun sitting inside listening to boring crap 8 hours a day.

  • Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

  • I home school my kids so the government can't brainwash them.
