Our former president was indeed the greatest person that out nation would ever known....he brought so much to people, to his country that no other would do!! He was completely dedicated in to bringing turkmen culture, traditions and regularities....and its not our point of view after living in dictatorship...that point our nation followed since the beginning of his reighn!!!
The thing is that Ballet was not illegal or banned at all. Mr.President closed down theaters. Misinterpretation of things is not smart, people I look at it and funny thing is your illiteracy.
Do you think he was attempting to make a statement against the Russians? Considering the ballet is highly regarded in their culture? It would make sense if you were insane...
@raikespeare possibly although he was slightly (I use that to be polite) mad, he banned dogs from the capital because they smelt bad, he closed all regional hospitals, right-hand cars which had been converted to left hand drives were banned too as were make-up wearing female journalists and presenters there are more but just say one he banned men from having beards or long hair. I'm quite eccentric and I'm quite well known for being eccentric but he was well beyond that.
Cracking down on street ballet dancers is very difficult, they are very volatile and swift (you know they easily jump fences with style and grace), sometimes the leotards are very slippery to tackle, we had a case where this particular "illegal ballet dancer" was actually really an ostrich so we couldn't catch it.
Niyazov was completely insane. The Ruhnama was an absolute joke! Although it is a good example of how a bunch of rubbish in a book can make the oppressed believers in anything.
@vampirechickita good the republican party really brings america down in the eyes of other western nations but theres hope as i can see here. some americans are sane enough to watch QI
OH NOWAY MF , YOUR JOKES ARE NOT FUNNY COZ YOU KNOW WHY , YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO JOKE AND COZ YOU ARE ALL IDIOTS YOU DONT KNOW WHEN TO LAUGH AND WHAT TO LAUGH .
It certainly wasn't fun for the people who lived under his rule, but I think it's fair to look back at it and think "can you imagine it was like that? haha". Don't you agree?
I feel sorry for you. You actually believe that reading Ruhnama for a driving licence test is completely normal. A new generation who is born after Saparmurat's rule will make you realize how crazy he was. You are unfortunately brainwashed.
The first of Turkmenistan President Saparmurat Niyazov - Turkmenbashi was a great person, we all thankful and proud of him, Turkmenistan became an independent and neutral, when many countries were fighting for their independance and that was made by that great person. Yes he changed some rules of law but he did it for the sake of his nation, and we will not say that he was wrong.
Before you judge Ruhnama, read it, then start discussing! It's the book which contains history of Turkmen nation. You are bunch of clowns, who tell lies for money, but truth will always win. Saparmyrat Niyazow was great person, we proud of him and we-Turkmens will never forget him
they like turkmens to look like idiots so they can came and take petrol for free. maybe usa should try to sort out its own internel problems before they try to teach somobody else.for example racism, corrupt congress, poverty in poor rigions and etc

What are you talking about?! Thats soooo stupid! How can they allow to show that on TV?! Saparmurat Niyazov made illegal ballet because it is Muslim country, and ballet has very short uniform! Saparmurat Niyazov tryed to make as much sport complexes as he can, that's why we do have Olympic sport center, Swimming sport center, Ice palace and etc.
That wasn't the reason at all. He made ballet illegal because he was a totalitarian wacko.
Niyazov was not a Muslim. Have you heard about the Ruhnama? What Muslim writes an autobiography and forces mosques to keep it as prominent as the Qur'an? This is blasphemy.
He created a cult of personality around himself and effectively forced people to worship him, much like Kim Jong Il. This is in violation of the Shahadah.
@disgpd Niyazov was nuts. One day he decided to shut down all the hospitals around the country, leaving only the ones in the capital open and said "if anyone's aill, they should come to the capital."
he also installed a golden statue of himself which actually turns around itself so that it would face the sun all the time. He changed the names of months. I am Turkish and once he came to our country and asked to marry a singer on live tv. He didn't do anything because of Islam.
@keropekerope All right. He didn't do anything because of Islam. <<< How is that familiar with Niyazov? Or are you against freedom of religion? Even if someone (for example) killed somebody in your country - does that means that all guys in your country are murders? I don't think so.
he also installed a golden statue of himself <Well, that does, virtually, all the presidents and kings. Or aren't in Your country a lot of places named in honor of your president? I was in your country twice.
@disgpd Also, he changed the name of a type of pastry and named it after his mother. He forced men not to grow hair or beard and banned the use of golden teeth.
I'm sorry, none of these happen in my country. The town called "Turkmenbashi" is named after him. That's a bit crazy innit?
@keropekerope I was in your country. Twice. Even your airport named after Ata-Turk. Am I right?
Yes, he was a lil weird, but what HE did in your country - the most important thing. I've never seen guys with guns in the street...unless I came in Istanbul. So make your own decisions. Good luck :)
@disgpd It's normal to name an airport with a former president's name. e.g. John F. Kennedy airport in New York. Writing a book and forcing people to memorize it for a "driving licence test" is completely crazy. People may own guns, the USA has more guns per capita compared to many western countries.
We, Turks, like Turkmens but we were sorry for many years that Turkmenstan was being ruled by this psycho. I mean, the guy tried to build an ice castle in the middle of the desert.
