quite. Their urine is as bad or worse than cat urine, and they mark a lot. But the skunk-like smell you hear people talk about is their 'musk', which they only produce when defensive or very excited, and is a foxy smell all of its own, an earthy smell you grow to like matter of fact.

But yeah, if you try to keep a fox indoor only, it gets quite smelly yes.

@noufri7 yes, but it is manageable, if you have a large outdoor pen for them... their urine smells really bad, but their 'musk' that people refer to is not a constant odor, they only release it when challenged or scared. And at least myself, have come to like the smell (the musk, not the urine!)

Foxes and cats generally just tolerate each other, they sometimes will fight. Several foxes owners have cats with their fox. But from what I've seen, and plan to demonstrate soon myself, is that dogs make really good playmates for foxes.

Foxes, like many exotic pets, bite hard and frequently when they don't like what you're doing. A dedicated loving owner learns to obey their special exotic furry child's preferences, respecting them just as they are, rather than demanding 'obedience'.

Children don't know how to recognize when the fox is getting pissed off, and will get bloody hands because of it.

I hope people who watch this video understand that this fox is *not* just a kind of dog. It is an entirely different species, and it is not remotely domesticated by the definition of the term.

Dogs have thousand upon thousands of years of domesticated conditioning that makes them appropriate for living with people. Foxes do not, captive-bred and hand-raised or not.

It would not be as you expect. It wouldn't truly be a 'pet'. Not really.

In reality it's ultimately just a wild animal in captivity, no different in fundamental nature from captive-born animals that live in zoos. And that's fine, in and of itself, but people need to make sure they understand the difference here.

very strong on occasion, but not necessarily 'bad'. Even dogs and cats have similar scent glands, just that foxes' are more potent in odor, but once to get acclimated to it, it's a lovely wild, earthy smell that just adds to the fascination of this wonderful creature <3

as a baby, bought from an exotic pet breeder. Over a dozen states allow a pet fox if acquired from such a breeder... you have to keep the receipt to prove you did not remove the fox from the wild.

Simply: Wild animals each have their own unique personality, each one is different, and you can't expect them to act a certain way. Domesticated animals are bred to behave a certain way. In some ways, yes! He loves to be pet at certain times, and absolutely adores being chased around in an eternal game of tag. He is very skittish and jumpy, and very scared of strangers, since Ron was not raised around other people than me.
