what obama did as a bailout worked a lot better than any other type of republican strategy. the only real strategy they have is tax-breaks for everything. It doesnt work that way. Our oil production is already declining. Gas production is yet to reach its peak, though. But that's not the point. The point is that only a part of the yearly revenue is spent, the is put away in a pension fund for the day when all oil and gas is depleted. It's the largest pension fund in Europe, and about the same size as the largest pension fund in the US.

Not really, like I said all surplus wealth from the oil is put directly in the fund, and only interests are used. What enables the "redistribution of wealth", a term I'm not particularly fond of btw, is the heavy taxation.

As for the grabbing of the oil rights, I can see why companies felt that way at the time. Phillips Petroleum (ConocoPhillips) were the ones who found oil in 1969/70. Today they are the largest foreign operator in Norwegian territorial waters.

As for right or wrong, for Norway it was the only right thing to do, we have benefited immensely from it. Today about 70 domestic and foreign companies have licenses on oil in Norwegian waters. Private investors are still lining up to get a piece of the pie, I'd say.
