I had one of these and their loudness cannot be appreciated through a video. It's the kind of loudness that has to be experienced first hand. I swear they can shatter glass! I would bet they are the loudest bird on earth.
actually if you do not think they are that loud in the video it is because this is a recording, it is louder in person and also a lot louder indoors when the sounds get trapped in the room.
I was going to get one so I went to the store to learn more about them from an expert. This one bird on display WAS ABOUT 10x LOUDER THAN THAT and they said 'yeah thats act. pretty normal. They'll do that atleast a 5 times a day so if you really want a bird get used to it."I was like yeah..Not for me. lol Gorgeous animals tho.
Your M2 is so beautiful! I know they are loud as hell though! Like I said to the other user here, I volunteer at a bird rescue where there are 8 M2's. Them on top of about 30 macaws, 15 or so other types of cockatoos, amazons, tiels, and other birds it gets pretty loud in there!
fortunately, your moluccan is not too loud. ours is much louder, and i think if ours met yours he would kill yours for not being manly enough (your moluccan has a very high pitched scream)
I have 2 cockatoos and so many of my neighbors have asked me how I can put up with the screaming? I respond with, "What screaming?". I also know that a camera doesn't have the audio to reproduce the screaming levels of Cockatoos and it isn't as loud as in real life. But I know when they scream and what scream is happening tells me what they want or is going on with them. They are just like having toddlers around. I love my Cockatoos and wouldn't change one thing about them or their screaming.
Also this is the exact reason why I could never get one of these birds. Lol. I love them to death but I could never deal with anything close to that on a daily basis. Maybe I'll get the joy of working around the baby-juvenile ones (which are much quieter) in a specialty store one day. Love birds but I wouldn't be able to listen to that in my house all day xD
Just picked up my new Moluccan a couple days ago. Good lord they are 100 times louder than Umbrellas lol Tango and Korky should have a contest! Korky will give him a run for his money lol
I'm really glad you posted this. There are so many morons who run out and buy a Cockatoo yet forget to do their research. They might be beautiful but boy can they be loud! :)
WOW! one good screamer that that's for sure! we have two cockatoos, Peaches (molluccan) and Algbert (umbrella) BOTH can scream like all get out when they put their minds to it. ha ha ha lovely bird and five stars and a favorite. thanks for posting
It is so good that you posted this. Too many people go into bird ownership without knowing all the facts.LOUD screaming is one of the main reasons M2's and U2's get rehomed.(the other being when they reach maturity and their personality changes...)If you can handle the screaming..they make great pets. Hats off you you and your beautiful birds!!
I agree with that. They do like their attention... Mine has his own room so I can shut the door and he calms down and you can actually do other things when he is awake.
@locamerengue Trust me, they are MUCH louder in person. I volunteer at a bird rescue where there are 8 of them! They are LOUD! lol. But I love them all :-)
If you think that because they are loud they are not worth it look at the videos of S. Elvis the crazy talking Moluccan cockatoo. That adorable bird will change your minds.
i like the way his wings are clipped, they look even and not scruffy like some clipping where they only do one wing...my cocktiel is 7 and has never been clipped, should i try it as she is not a good flyer or would it stress her out to much because she is not used to it? and will a normal vet do it or does it need to be a avian vet?
I think if her wings have never been clipped, don't clip 'em, even if she isn't a good flier. It will mean she has to get used to a new way of flying, and she'll probably end up hurting herself in the process. ie: she thinks she can make it to the cage like she used to, but falls short because of the new wing clip.
Oh my. I can't keep mine off the sheppard hooks or the fence either. LOL! Mine doesn't really do the squealing. He's a yeller and he will follow you right out the back door and walk you to your car. He's such a great bird.
I think ur whistling got him going lol he was probably like.. ha you call that a scream? SCREEEEEEEEEEEEECH! lol but still I don't even have a blemish on my impression of cockatoos .. so cute
Yes, that's true. He does most of his screaming inside the cage when he wants food or wants to get out. In this video he is just showing off to the neighborhood kids
They scream when they want attention, they scream when they're happy, they scream when they're feeling goofy, they scream when they're hungry. They LOVE to scream! It's telling the screams apart that's our job! My umbrella sometimes says, "Yay!" after a happy scream.
Every time I see these videos I think, "Yeah, I could handle that, but could my neighbors?"

All cockatoos can be "noisy" but it all depends on how you train them to be. As with any bird, always remember, YOU make your own monster!!!! LOL XD

While these birds are very cuddly and nice to hold, they can be mistaken for the devil themselves!
We had one that would scream at the top of her lungs when we left the room. It was so horrible! And we did pay a lot of attention to her.
She just needed all the attention all the time!

The cage is an outdoor cage for our other bird which is a blue headed pionus
