@mealsgateboys That's personal preference. I used to like a very heavy string, but I'm moving towards lighter strings. Try a few guitars with different strings and see which ones you like.

@eadgbeskate Em, from what I remember, its the 50's neck, and I love it, can't stand my strat anymore, its like playing on a ruler or something. As for clear tome with a lot of gain, just look around on youtube. There's a dude who plays Purple Haze with it somewhere.

@therealchich2 Yes, be sure that it's 498T for the bridge... generally these days it will be, but the older Studios has a 490 in the bride aswell and they sounded terrible. If you can, make sure it has gold hardware just to be sure, gold hardware will always have the 498T bridge pickup.

@DoMinC246 I have that guitar, its sounds significantly better as its a different style of guitar, and also a much higher standard of guitar. If you have a squire, I'm assuming you don't have the best Amp, you might want to get a new one to get more out of the Gibson. This is a guitar I will have forever and never sell =D

the binding?i think it's more to do with the quality of the wood,the pickups and other hardware and electronics and of course, the people who work on the guitar. the more inexperienced work on the studios,melody makers etc,intermediate work on the standards in the 'usa' shop, and the most experienced craftsmen who have been working for the company for the minimum of 20 years work in the custom shop. you have to remember,when buying agibson,most of your money goesto western work

trust me, the wood makes a HUGE differences, especially due to variations of density and the grain of the wood.

The craftsmen workers they have working on the standards are more experienced.

The electronics are actually better in the standard, they use cheaper grades on the studio.

The finish quality and the laquer is better on the standards.

Pickups are down to personal taste.

Other than that, they are very similar. The Standard is better though, still, I wouldn't buy one.

@Hebamundo well it sucks that they use cheaper grade electronics on the studio since we all know electronics cost nothing to make..and i dont know how wood density makes such a huge difference when gibson are actually making holes in the new gibsons to "remove weight and add tone" and i dont understand either howcome the epiphone lp custom (with all the bells and whistles and binding) is more expensive than the lp studio.. anyways so howcome you wouldnt even buy a standard?

Umm, several reasons why I wudnt buy a LP standardL firstly, i HATE the chambered bodies (which is something different to weight relieving), i dont like burstbucker pros, i don't like the metal tuners they use on the headstock...

those are just my personal opinions, id much rather go with a traditional: they cost less, aren't weight relieved/chambered, better pickups.
