  • One of the most subtle and delicate piece ever composed for electronics. I love it. It is true it must be listened at reasonable level. Not only for the health of ears, which is essential, but also for the beauty and the mystery of the music itself. As Feldman asked his listeners to play his recordings at pianissimo level, I think this masterpiece of Xenakis should be heard in the same conditions to enjoy more its altitude poetry in a better way.

  • I find this strangely relaxing. :)

  • What a terrific joy it is to be able to listen to all of this Xenakis - it was impossible to hear this music for so long, and now friendly folks have uploaded it!

  • I like the picture you used for this vid..it makes me think of the result of an experimental project...Does it have something to do with musique concrète or sound experiments? Where did you take it from?

Please tell me, I really want to know...

  • @Didi972 It's a fractal. It used to comeup in google images search results for "fractal"... I only know because this is the desktop background on a music computer... andI love this piece. What is the probability of finding these two things linked here, I don't know. Xenakis would probably love the improbability of it...

  • @Didi972 It's a fractal. It once came up in google images search results for "fractal" or "fractal art"... I only know because this is the desktop background on a music computer of mine... andI love this piece. What is the probability of finding these two things linked here, I don't know. Xenakis would probably love the improbability of that. I don't think it has a direct connection to the music though... this is based on probability theory and stochastic which is different than fractals.

I only know because this is the desktop background on a music computer of mine...and I obsess with this music. What is the probability of finding them linked here? Xenakis might enjoy that coincidence. I don't think the image has a direct connection to the music. Just another beautiful art based in mathematical theory. Xenakis is interested in probability theory, stocastics here.

  • érotique musique.

  • Extremely high pitched tones and very low pitiched bass can kill, drive insane, destroy ears. Why composers use such sounds is unknown to me, but all music of every type should be played, initially, and almost always after that, at the lowest possible volume and furthest distance you can get from it. This is soothing to me.

  • Hmm... Especially startging at 2:40 or so, it really reminds me of a marsh full of frogs croaking.

    It's strangely soothing, though

  • hahahaha, LMAO, truly amazing!!

  • this piece is epochal!

  • Space crickets?

  • i love the music of xenakis but this is kind of dangerous to listen to if you set the volume too high especially in the begining. those high pitch tones can cause temporary ear damage. it happened to me.

  • Lol.

    Seriously? xD

I posted a piece by Ikeda and the first thing in the description was "TURN THE VOLUME DOWN. SERIOUSLY". Now THAT piece is some ear damage just waiting to happen. Search "Ryuji Ikeda Per Se".

  • indeed. a few years ago i set the volume too high, because i was fooled into thinking that the high pitch tones in the beginning of the piece were low in volume. as a result there was a horrible reverberation and loss of hearing sensitivity which persisted for three days. very unpleasant.

  • @John11inch << What I can say is don't ever listen to "How will we know" by the Flaming Lips in headphones

I listened to it 4 times and it gave me horrible eadaches during months...

  • I can't hear anything. Is something wrong?

  • Something wrong with your computer, apparently. Works for me.

  • @drumdrone Must be... Either your speakers are not ok, or you can't listen to high pitches...

  • This sounds "ALIEN"????

erase your cheap hollywood science fiction emotions and get back to work

  • Definition of the word "alien":

adj; not contained in or deriving from the essential nature of something

Looks like somebody erased his brain x: Was that Scanners-style or Total Recall-style? No wait, don't bother: blocked.

  • Alien is used here as an adjective, dood, he didn't mean ET.

    duuuh.

Anyway, totally enchanting in a weird way.

I guess you're tired of the request business ;). I can understand that

  • Not really. Just temporarily tired of the uploading business. Ought to kick back in after my vacation at the beginning of July.

  • Great to hear :)

  • This frequency is interesting.

  • Well what can we expect from an Alkan fan?

  • Alkan fan?

Despite a couple of exceptions, I dislike most romantics including alkan, although i respect them.

To be fair though, he wanted to experiment, and that's legitimate. He just failed utterly in creating music, he succeeded however in sending a mathematical message to extraterrestrial life forms. :o)

  • John, is there any connection to the image? Which, by the way, is wonderful.

  • No, not directly.

Indirectly, that image is a fractal, which is of course a mathematical figure. I also think it's fairly alien, as this piece sounds, and is quite a few colors, as this piece is :P

But no, not really. That's just my bullshit explanation for the pic.
