The finale to Season was not as bad as I had expected, though that may have been partly down to a feeling of relief that it was over, which I experienced with Season 5. Overall, the best stories were those NOT written by Moffatt. And why kidnap a child to raise it as an assassin when all they had to do was hire a real assassin, or just kill the Doctor themselves? If the suit was overriding River's desire NOT to kill the Doctor, then why not just get an android to kill him? Entertaining drivel.

I tend to think the Davison get off lightly simply because he is the doctor many of the writers of today grew up with, this perception seems to blind many of that generation from doctor who striving to be more than a children's show in the 60's and to a lesser extent the 70's. Peter Davison's and some of the later Tom Baker era is responsible for Moffat's unfortunate perception that all classic who is cliche characters running down corridors.

Trouble with this video, even though it transcribes Steven Moffat's accurate words (DracoXul gave the website at which they can be found. Just add the h tea tea pee before it and close up the spaces in his url; for some reason his posts were marked as spam. They aren't), using a computer voices doesn't convey the actual spirit of the conversation, WHICH was part of a drunken roundtable discussion with Paul Cornell, Andy Lane, Steven Moffat and David BIshop.

The tone of the computer voice cannot accurately convey what Moffat actual means, whether he laughing or saying something in a particularly light way. This makes everything sound SOOOO serious, which it obviously was not (read the interview yourselves). Secondly, the audio skips around the interview, rather than following the actual order.

Maybe because there are FOUR people (not two) doing the talking, but in skipping around, it conveys the impression that the whole things is Moffat spouting off about Dr. Who. It's not. At one point Andy Lane says about the old series, "They're consistently crap." David Bishop adds, "One dimensional and cardboard." Moffat actually praises the show through the forum, even in a part that the above video didn't bother to include.

So, basically what we have is a video with intent to mislead. Yes, Moffat said some harsh things about the actors and other people who worked on the original series. So what? I used to be a fan of the old series but now a lot of it I find to be unwatchable rubbish -- and not just the special effects. Too much running around, stretching out the silly plot, too much bad acting and writing.
I don't see how Davison's career after Who was any more impressive than the other actors who played the Doctor. I liked him as the Doctor but my favourite is Tom Baker. I'm sure that he doesn't care what Moffat thinks of him.

The finale to Season was not as bad as I had expected, though that may have been partly down to a feeling of relief that it was over, which I experienced with Season 5. Overall, the best stories were those NOT written by Moffatt. And why kidnap a child to raise it as an assassin when all they had to do was hire a real assassin, or just kill the Doctor themselves? Virgin and the BBC thought, with some justification, that fans would buy any rubbish with a Doctor Who logo on it (and, later, without the logo). There should have been stricter control of the books, with emphasis on quality, not quantity.

That sort of thing belongs in soap operas, not proper drama. As I have said elsewhere, when I watch 'The Daemons', I'm not wondering if Jo is the Doctor's mother, or if the the Brigadier is the Master's son, or if Benton is an Auton or Mike Yates is gay. None of that irrelevant rubbish is needed in a proper storyline.

I tend to think the Davison get off lightly simply because he is the doctor many of the writers of today grew up with, this perception seems to blind many of that generation from doctor who striving to be more than a children's show in the 60's and to a lesser extent the 70's. Peter Davison's and some of the later Tom Baker era is responsible for Moffat's unfortunate perception that all classic who is cliche characters running down corridors.

Trouble with this video, even though it transcribes Steven Moffat's accurate words (DracoXul gave the website at which they can be found. Just add the h tea tea pee before it and close up the spaces in his url; for some reason his posts were marked as spam. They aren't), using a computer voices doesn't convey the actual spirit of the conversation, WHICH was part of a drunken roundtable discussion with Paul Cornell, Andy Lane, Steven Moffat and David BIshop.

The tone of the computer voice cannot accurately convey what Moffat actual means, whether he laughing or saying something in a particularly light way. This makes everything sound SOOOO serious, which it obviously was not (read the interview yourselves). Secondly, the audio skips around the interview, rather than following the actual order.

Maybe because there are FOUR people (not two) doing the talking, but in skipping around, it conveys the impression that the whole things is Moffat spouting off about Dr. Who. It's not. At one point Andy Lane says about the old series, "They're consistently crap." David Bishop adds, "One dimensional and cardboard." Moffat actually praises the show through the forum, even in a part that the above video didn't bother to include.

So, basically what we have is a video with intent to mislead. Yes, Moffat said some harsh things about the actors and other people who worked on the original series. So what? I used to be a fan of the old series but now a lot of it I find to be unwatchable rubbish -- and not just the special effects. ps - meant to add; the other part of where it's going wrong? Bad direction/pacing generally, with massively anticlimactic resolutions to most stories, resulting in the total undermining of any potential peril or tension because, well, we know that A) Moffat won't let things get too tense or scary in the first place (because that's got nothing to do with clever story arcs and he's not watching) B) The inevitable resolution will involve everyone living or being revived. However the Hugos lost its allure years ago when it was awarded to one of the worst Star Trek the Next Generation episode ever. 'The Big Good-bye'. That episode was just a cheesy rip-off of 'A Piece of the Action'. A much better episode. And most Americans have never heard of the BAFTA award. No offense. I'm a huge fan of Dr Who and of Moffat's writing for it. So what if he once said those things? (He says he regrets this interview now). Truth is, Dr Who needs good writers. He's a good writer. I love the old series, Snakedance etc. but I also think Moffat has done Dr Who a terrific service.

@LegoDaleks i'm a fan of old and new who, I discovered old who after new who but love both, matt smith is my favourite of new who and troughton is favourite of old who, the last series of doctor who was the best of the revival, maybe some episodes wasn't super good but it had less shit episodes than previous series so I don't believe Moffat has had "an explosive bowel movement all over it" I agree that RTD wasn't great but at least he brought it back, old who had a lot of shit too can't deny it
