  • I'll never tire of this film. Why do I keep feeling they will all break into song at the end. It has all the elements for a smash musical. Sandy Wilson we need you :-)

  • I've loved this movie my whole life, my family quotes it endlessly.

  • This is one of THE most delightful films I have ever seen ...... from beginning to end. I too want to know what she saw in the wood shed and What did they do to Tom Post? LOL!

I haven't felt this good from a show since 1998 at the Chichester Festival Theatre where I saw the musical "Divorce Me Darling". It was sheer joy and pleasure that night. Among many known people in the audience was Derek Jacobi who I spoke with at the interval and he was over the moon for the production. Thank you tons.

  • lol what was so nasty in the wood shed. Me too i want to know hahahaa!!! cool

but don t forget !!! is not butter in hell so behave!!! lol

  • Top Drawer - what-ho!

  • such a lovely story, Flora Poste reminds me of the children story of Pollyanna, it could have been the story of a grown up Pollyanna.

  • So loved. That Rufus Sewell is quite a treat, isn't he?

  • Grandma looks sooooooooooo great!

  • I can't believe they missed the 'Don't forget to feed the parrot!' line! Absolute classic quote in our family. Oh well, top notch all round I suppose and do pass the champers, would you? There's a darling.

  • Absolutely loved this from the first time I saw it! Thanks for sharing. ;)

  • Perhaps now they will call it Warm Comfort instead of Cold Comfort because I feel warm and fuzzy now.

  • One of the most amusing and diverting movies! RE: the woodshed questions - it doesn't matter what the old lady saw in the woodshed - it represents an old childhood wound that she prefered to hold on to and use as an excuse not to live her life and to prevent others from living theirs. But our hero, Flora, gave the old aunt enough reasons to let the past go and look to the future.

  • They really managed to make Flora a likeable character in the film. I couldn't stand her in the book; haughty little bugger that she was!

  • enjoyed it! It was amusing and witty! Definetly a new favorite!

  • Loved the novel, love the movie....

  • @postmoderna7 how well expressed !

  • Magnificently humorous!

  • What a great movie!

  • Was enchanted first time around on the telly and thrilled to have found it again. Marvellously acted by all save the loathsome Fry who was merely himself. Thanks so much.

  • Great film.... thank you so much for posting it...

  • Gosh....I love this film. Thank you so so much for posting it. Spiffing......!!!

  • @Shonies1988 absolutely spiffing indeed ! :)))

  • ..how trying..

  • How romantic! Lovely film, thank you so much for posting it! Come to think of it, I don't think I'm cut out to be a novelist either. Quite a relief, actually.

  • I absolutely adored this.... it's been many years since I've seen it, and now that I'm a bit older, I can properly appreciate its humor. Thanks so much for posting! It's been grand.

  • Simply spiffing!

Three chaahs for the up. Hip hip hoorah...

  • Simply spiffing!

Three chaahs for the up. Hip hip hoorah...

  • "Oh Charles.... you *do* have heavenly teeth!"

Always makes me laugh, that. :D

  • The British know how to make a "Happily ever after" movie seem real and not some hollywood yard sale. Thanks for this great movie, i've seen it on your channel a few times.

  • Thanks for that ! Cheered me up tickety boo ! xx

  • That is so Stephen Fry, knowing where the quotations come from.

  • Every time I watch this I find something new to chuckle at. Eileen Atkins is brilliant and Kate Beckinsale just heart breaking. Thanks.

  • I LOVED this movie!!!! lots of unanswered questions, though...

  • Oh Charles! You do have heavenly teeth!

  • Really enjoyed this. Thanks for posting!

  • that was really, really nice

the thing with the woodshed is never explained in the book - it was her "power" thing and it took "robert Post's child" to make her realise that she could have more

  • what is scranlitting?

  • This is a terrific story. The characters were wonderful. Especially liked the depiction of rural life. Cheers.

  • I'm sorry, I still want to know what was so nasty in the wood shed.

  • wonderful movie, had me laughing out loud throughout, thanks for the upload x

  • I enjoyed this movie and it has encouraged me to read the book, allthough i have to have read the book in two days, i feel this movie was promising and enjoyable with a lovley ending, to start with I thought the part for Flora was not quite right but she grew her part leaving the movie with a happy, satisfying ending! 3/5 stars :D

  • I enjoyed this movie so much that I wish I were right there with all the people in this movie ! I would love to live among those country bumpkins. It would be wonderful.

  • This is now one of my top favorite films!...It sort of reminded me of "Englishman went up the hill but a Mountain" with Hugh Grant. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!! I always heard of the title, but never got around to watch...now I have and boy am I glad I did!

  • Thank you so much for uploading this! It's one of my favourites!

  • This is really a feel good movie. An the actors are really great. So funny to se how she is interfering in everyones life and that everyone is gaining upon it! It is such a smart film

  • Better than a white horse.

    Ta.

  • Tremendously uplifting and humourous .

  • Aaw, this is such a feelgood movie! :-D

  • too funny the guy with the cows at the end was wearing the mop scrubber like a necklace!!!!!! super funny!

  • What is going on at 4.10 - 4.12? On the right side of the scene, one man in a top hat is sitting, and another man in shirtsleeves and waistcoat seems to be hitting him on the head repeatedly with a spoon. Huh?

  • We were never meant to know what happened in the woodshed.

Thanks for uploading this film. I'd been looking for an earlier BBC version with Alistair Simms as Amos and Rosalie Crutchley as Judith but this was a pleasure to find.

  • You can buy it on Amazon. This one is actually better.

  • Although it's been a while, I think that I like the old, BBC one better. It was more "Gothic" & I think, a lot funnier. Alistair Simms was at his best. Thanks for the info.

  • My Mum was an extra in this film. She was dancing with Stephen Fry at 3:55 . You can see his white hat. People say i look like him... I think i know what happened in the woodshed!!! (i was born 1996)

  • Good on your Mum ....but I thought he was....hmm

  • Oh yeah..

  • @redbourn1, well, what's your Da have to say about that?

  • Wonderful film. Thank you for uploading it.

  • Thank you very, very much!!!

  • wonderful film, absolutely spiffing!!!!

  • So nice to be able to watch this charming film online without having to get up and load the DVD player. I also have it on VHS for what it's worth, just as I had so many 33 1/3 records and now have the same on CD.

I agree that I prefer the pre-op Kate, haven't seen her in anything memorable since this.

  • wonderful humour. Thanks for posting it.

  • Wait so what was the wrong that they did to her father and what did she see in the woodshed, and did it see her?

Still, I loved this film, it's a classic in my book any day!

  • One of my favorite movies of all time. Kate was so cute before she got all plastic'd up.
