I think that all of you who have who have made insensitive comments about my father sound like a bunch of failed artists who love to sit on the sidelines and make criticisms..... Instead of trying to dissect another for one moment in their career you should learn to contribute to what it is you profess you love as my father has done with his life........
Anastasios Vrenios is a wonderful artist and teacher who I have had the extreme pleasure of knowing and studying with for many years. We are so fortunate to have this film as documentation of his amazing talent !
@JeeRant Do you find that you are a rather rigid and tense individual in general or is it limited to the arts? Life is very short and it is best to experience it all so that you can grow by taking the positive out of all that you encounter in life and leave the negative behind. Peace.
correction: some bits do work in english - despite his hair (and alarmingly round backside) one can understand what vrenios is singing in the big melody part. it is a cracking bottom, pity we don't see hers
Stratas is one of the great voices in opera, and Puccini is my favorite composer. Stratas' beauty and her performance at the Met in Zeferelli's Traviata (now on DVD) also is stunning stuff you can never forget aftere you hear her singin that great role!
Thank you so much for posting a video of Taso! (Vrenios). I studied with him for 6 years when I was in my 20s and have never seen him in anything before!!! That was amazing :)
I saw this live at C.G. with Angela Gheorghiu & loved every min. of it. It was my intro. to this opera. I've never heard her sing so well. This is also fab. I'm now an addict of this opera.
They cut one of the most amazing moments in the opera :( But damn, Stratas is a monster! I would have loved to hear these 2 live, they don't really have TV voices lol
This is amazing. Stratas. Singing Puccini. In English. For television. (And rare Puccini at that.) Boy, this would NEVER get done today. I wish that this was available on DVD.
God, so barking. More barking it could be in German only.

You can profess to be a star in this world but the real star shares that light with other human beings as my dad has done......

Well, Vrenios certainly sounds better here than on the Decca recording of
Les Huguenots. Stratas always sounds wonderful although I read she was
unhappy w/ her Traviata film because she was in poor voice at the time of
the recording.
Tnx 4 the interesting post.

great hair on both of them!

Calla's acting was more flashy, Strata's acting more affecting. Both great divas and consummate performers..

Ultimate Puccini!! The greatest opera composer. No one could ever create as beautiful melodies as he did . . .

Its a wonderful performance but I still feel that it works alot better in the Italian language - much more singable for the artists.

Heartwrenching. I remember seeing this at the Atlanta opera a couple years ago and I cried.
