  • I am so glad the Halo film failed.

  • D9 one of the greatest sci fi movies of the last 10 years easy

  • 4:01 WTF!

  • @2505994 It's been addressed in the comments. That was the not-so-subtle 2-minute warning by the off-camera tech. Stuff like that always happens off-camera, but you almost never see it in-frame. I did chuckle a bit upon watching this later.

  • @THEBIGFANBOY thank you

  • amazing. I can't believe it was all digital effects for the aliens. I thought there were some practical effects. My friend watching it though the alien ship must have been a painted miniature or something.

Easily as good as the effects work by ILM on davy jones.

  • thanks for the great interview!

  • @raswelsta you're welcome, our pleasure. The boys were really fun to talk to, and the movie was extremely cool, which always makes the interview more fun. :)

  • I wanna sequel! Great interview!

  • @TheRings7 me too, and thanks!

  • You're a good interviewer

  • @SuperDogbiter thank you very much for the kind words. I try my best, just wish I could find someone who would hire me to do it full time. :)

  • This is a very good interview. :) thanks for uploading

  • @winasls thanks for the kind words. They were a lot of fun to talk to, and it's easily one of my personal favorite interviews I'd had the pleasure of doing. I appreciate the comment!

  • @THEBIGFANBOY for only 13,615 views, they agreed to this?

  • @gluetubeserver um, yeah, we didn't discuss the number of views they'd get when we set up the interview. If you do a search on YouTube, you'll see there's actually several other interviews with them which have less views than this. Not sure I understand what the purpose is with your comment, other than to be insulting. Seems like a majority of people on here enjoyed the interview, and that's all that ultimately matters to me.

  • @THEBIGFANBOY no, I sorry if that came off as insulting, but I imagined them to be huge movie stars; so the interview was great but 7 minutes of quality interview should translate to big views, I was only studying emergent trends and shifting dynamics on YouTube.

  • @gluetubeserver no worries, I understand, and believe me, I too would expect more views for something like this, but I guess people have to be searching for it and interested in it in order for the views to happen. I think sometimes people would rather watch a clip from a movie than watch and interview with the people who made it.

  • @THEBIGFANBOY you get interviews with mostly A list personalities, yet do not have a partnership? I'm inclined to think this is a faux YouTube channel, mainly because your website has exceeding high production value, yet that does not translate to here. If you are "mark" the person who conducts these interviews, then Im amazed that you take the time to reply to comments on YouTube, I might be trolling.........or being critical.

  • @gluetubeserver nope, this is a legit channel. Occasionally we've had people steal our vids and use them on their channel, but this is the official Bigfanboy channel for YouTube, and I am Mark. I always try to be hands on with what I do. I reply to the compliments and I reply to the complaints, at least as much as I'm able. And as for partnership, I am a YouTube partner. Do you not see ads when you watch our vids?

  • @THEBIGFANBOY wow, it takes real dedication to reply to comments on YouTube, I imagined you being a busy man, but anyways I was wrong, and I thought partnerships allowed people to have their own banner? never-mind.

  • Fookin Prawns!

  • I can't believe that he was improvising during the whole movie! That guy is amazing, I can't believe that he's only been in two movies.

  • Sharlto should have won and should have at least been nominated for an Oscar for Actor, both of which didn't happen, unfortunately. D9 is a fantastic film and is my absolute favorite film ever now. That being said, I haven't seen The Hurt Locker, so I don't know if D9 had a chance in Best Picture, Editing, Visual Effects, or Writing, but I don't think it did because of the tough competition. Which is why I think Sharlto had the best chance and should have been nominated and won the best Actor.

  • Blomkamp's accent officially makes no sense.

  • @Baronessa lol he grew up in south africa but has lived in canada for most of his life

  • One of my most favorite movies OF ALL TIME. GENIUS!!!!!!!! These guys need to work together again in the future! Like, on District 10?!!? Or something equally awesome?!!!

  • That is just amazing that Sharlto improvised most (?) of the movie. Great movie too! Props for both Neill and Sharlto!

  • It's like Trey Parker and Matt Stone of movies.

  • were you able to ask what Neill's biggest infuences were?

  • 4:00 did anyone notice the hand trying to give Sharlto bunny ears? XD

  • It's been addressed. That was the not-so-subtle 2-minute warning by the off-camera tech. Stuff like that always happens off-camera, but you almost never see it in-frame. I did chuckle a bit upon watching this later.

  • @THEBIGFANBOY I read this comment before I watched the video so i was kind of expecting something but I still laughed out loud at that. Almost looked like he was giving him bunny ears.

  • really???

  • Its about time Oscar recognizes the films that have a heartbeat, and this is such a film. This film blew me away!!

  • this is biigggggggggggg, i just love this film! I hope that they gonna film district 10! they have realy good story for another movie.. :)

  • cool people.

  • So it seems some of the work from the failed 'Halo' project was incorporated into 'District 9'?

  • Like what?

  • not really. only the BRs of halo were used in D9, but he said in an interview most of it was his own musings.

  • nominated for best picture!!!!!!up the oscars for recognizing such an awesome film

  • I saw the movie on friday, i was fucking blown away.... fucking awesome film!

  • Sharlto put on the best acting performance in 2009 with that film. No question about it.

  • i think the same oscars are just stupid about giving him no awards or even nominated him in best male performanses

  • fucking Agree man, he did it, best performance ever.

  • Sharlto Copley might be largely unknown for being the greatest actor. He just popped out like delicious popcorn in this movie D9 and i love it!

  • Just saw this film for the first time the other day. BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR!!! Theres nothing about it I didn't like. I cant wait for Neill Blomkamps next film and I'll be honest, Sharlto Copley is the only thing that has me excited for the A-Team movie!!!

  • Finally saw it. Really good. Rather too violent & gory for a '12' rating which will restrict its audience a bit.

Good re-use of classic movie motifs, including 'The Fly.' The walking alien weapons platform design thingy has been used in everything from Star 'Wars', 'Alien' & recently 'Avatar' but was used in an original way.

The aliens were good & you can see Peter Jackson's experience with prosthetics & CGI from 'The Lord of the Rings.'

    Interesting thought-provoking movie.

  • Man, it would be sooooooooo cool to look like half an alien.......District 9 RULEZ!

  • Sharlto Copley deserves an Oscar for his performance in D9.

  • Oh yeah, Sharlto definitely deserves an oscar! That performance was so real. Such an amazing actor.

  • I honestly can't remember the last movie I enjoyed as much as District 9. Both the film and Sharlto's performance are just amazing.

Also, milovy is right, you are a very good interviewer! You asked many of the questions I would've asked Sharlto myself, and you made them all clear and brief.

  • I totaly agree. I felt the same way that I felt when I was kid watching Terminator 2 or Aliens for the first time.

  • 4:00 lol

  • Right.

  • Such a great great movie.. without saying this film covers any genre. But i would def say that this movie could please u even if ur one of the stubernly i kinda just prefere theese sorta films kinda guy.. I promise you this is a very mint and one of its kind type of movie

  • In the movie industry they hardly make stand alone adventure/ sci-fi movies anymore. Everything is a remake, a reboot, a sequel or prequel, or based on a children's toy or an amusement park ride. This can be great, but movies like aliens or terminator, which were all originally stand alone and low budget, dont get made anymore. This movie taps into that part of film-making that seems to be almost lost today, and thus a breath of fresh air. I love this movie!

  • Couldn't have said it better myself. I was really impressed by the film, it was very unique and original, which was indeed a breath of fresh air. In my opinion... it was an instant classic.

I also agree with everything the interviewer said, especially the bit about Sharltos performance, which frankly youd have to be a fool not to be impressed and captivated by, he's clearly got a real natural talent for acting. That, and the entire film just pulls you in and never lets go.

  • Sharlto Copley is so in my top ten actors list..

  • Good film...Good Actor!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great interview, awesome movie, Sharlto was PERFECT! I LOVE seeing new people in movies because you can get more into the movie. good stuff!

  • Really? You "hope" we're embarassed? What a nice thing to say! Just FYI, a lot of times when these interviews are done, we're forced to use the camera crew provided by the studio. In this case it wasn't set up properly & I was given 2 tapes, one camera on them & one with camera on me. The audio wasn't balanced, which normally isn't an issue. I had to edit this together & get it posted ASAP because of time. If I had a production house & unlimited budget, it might have been better. Alas, I don't.

  • Don't listen to that jerk.

You're a really good interviewer, BTW.

  • @milovy I know this is a bit late, but thanks! It was a fun interview to do. I wish these guys all the best, they turned in a great film.

  • @THEBIGFANBOY you dont have to explain yourself, that guys just an idiot

  • @eskimojoe6699 thanks bud, I just think sometimes people don't understand how some of these interviews aren't done under the most ideal of conditions, and there's always pressure to get them posted as soon as possible. Sure, there's some sound issues, I get that. I was aware of it when I posted this. I'm not stupid. But I also don't have unlimited resources available to me. I think some people just look for a reason to criticize. Anyhow, thanks for the support my friend.

  • yes, yes District 10.....

  • this movie is totally something else..love it,i love sharlto copleys as wikus... everything in this movie is just fucking awsome

  • Holy crap, Sharlto Copley looks so different without the mustache

  • wtf? 4:02

  • The people running the interview are signaling to the interviewer that he has about 2 minutes left.

  • I'm awaiting District 10.

  • yes ;) nice interview!

    5/5

  • Just saw District 9 two days ago for the first time (it just got released in Europe)...Sharlto Copley's performance is beyond anything I have ever seen!!!

He captured all of the pain, suffering, frustration etc. perfectly!! Its almost too real - he is so unbelievably awesome!!!

Great story! Great performance! Great movie!

Thank you for posting this interview.

  • no? the movie have been out since august here in Sweden , where do you live?

  • Sorry, I should have been more specific. I am from Switzerland.

District 9 got release over here on Sept.10th; I went to see it three days later.

  • great interview

  • Love those boys, Niell was born to direct. bring on the sequel!

  • HAHAH 6:47 that rocks!

    District 10 would kick ass!

  • What's up with the bunny ears over Sharlto's head at 4:02? Lol.

  • likely peter jackson

  • Lol yeah I know there are quite a few caucasians living in africa, I just thought the director was black. Anyways by far best movie I seen this year. I absolutely love the story line and the special effects. I thought it was so sweet even tho the vikus became a full blown prawn, he still makes flowers for his wife and told her not to give up. 3 yrs. thats a long time. I also like the main prawn's son. He was cute and it was touching was when he wanted to go home when his father said they can't

  • I was blown away by the Prawns not as special effects, but as characters within the film's story. Christopher was such a sympathetic and surprisingly believable character.

  • i cant wait till District 10!

  • this whole time I thought Neill Blomkamp was black...

  • hehe Well, there are Caucasian South Africans. Look at Charlize Theron. She's from there, you know. :) The movie's great, though.

  • loool @ the bunny peace sign thing on copley's head

  • Yeah, that was the not-so-subtle 2-minute warning by the off-camera tech. Stuff like that always happens off-camera, but you almost never see it in-frame. I did chuckle a bit upon watching this later.

  • was this the video you tried to edit during the podcast?
