  • this is tremendous in every way

  • joy division is the best ive ever heard

  • Mom:"You call this music?"

    Me:"Yes."

Mom:"Then you truly are my son you son of a bitch."

  • my favorite song of Joy Division.Full of energy, amazing.

  • my fav JD sound - Real music - epic bass , nice beat to drums - does the guitar sound a bit funky to anyone at some bits of the song or is it just me

  • @caribbean02 Peter Hook played guitar on this one. Bernard is playing bass.

  • @marcmistermarc -cheers for clearing that up , great song

  • not heard this one before i like it

  • My brother once told me that Ian plays guitar in this version of "Sound of Music". Is that true? I always thought he only played guitar on "Incubation" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart".

  • love this lol

  • I cant imagine how would be music without joy division... Lady Ga Ga and other will be have forgotten for years but IAN CURTIS still live in our memories

  • My favourite JD song! I love drums! It should be called ''Sound of life"

  • Essential Joy Division......

  • aweboooo KE ROLA

  • Now thats timeless!!!

  • Pure, Raw Energy

  • Hooky on bass

    Barney on guitar

  • amazing

  • class!!!!

  • this seals the deal. HAVE to buy this CD. jesus fucking christ that bass at the beginning. how fucking heavy is that!!!

  • Loooooooooooove....

    Life!

    Don't you feeeel?

    Higher!

    Higher! Higher! Higher! Higher!

  • It's scary how real this band was, mysterious, that instant and simple connection with the power of music, nothing in between

  • The shit is amazing.. I'm pretty sure Joy Division had so many hits still ahead of them. It's evident with New Order. New Order had some great hits but I think they would have been even better with Ian's voice and writings that never surfaced or had yet written.

  • @jostube06 have you read the book Touching from a Distance, if not its about his life written by his wife with a lot of his song in it, an untitled &unfinished works.

  • @jostube06 yeah. they're fantastic though i love Power Corruption and Lies, they made some beautiful beautiful music.

  • This shit go hard

  • This is what music *should* sound like... still hooked after 30 years, man we need Curtis back.

  • @tanlin222 no, this is what joy division sound like, and i'd like it kept that way

  • it just sounds so much better when my speakers are cranked up

  • Brutal.

  • The greatest music ever and dear Ian's unique soulful singing - believe we can't get more joy in this world!

  • Love, life, makes you feel higher.

  • I fucking love when Morris throws in those extra fills near the end. He does that on live versions of Transmission as well, and I just wonder why they're not on the studio recordings.

  • The mighty Joy Division will never be equalled.

  • 1 is a weirdo who didn't like this =)

  • Pity I can't find any bass tabs for this song...

  • Fuckin' Brilliant! Not many bands can pull off sounding this good during a live session

  • This was the first JD music I bought and it opened a new music world to me.

  • Wow, this version is AMAZING. Has a completely diametric feel to the original recording... really makes you wonder what could have been.

  • This song is an out take from Unknowen Pleasures. One of about 4 or 5 songs that didn't make it on the record. But I wish at was!!!

  • Love this version.

  • I think that this version is better than the original.

    5*

  • bleah

  • best version available.higher indeed.

  • listening to Joy Division.

  • "I feel the same range of despair and shallow hope" that was very poetic.

  • @whiff1962

Nearly 50 years? You mean 30 years...big difference but that doesn't take away from how amazing they were/are

  • he was a great singer miss you ian curtis<3

  • beautiful song, all of their music was

  • Joy Division R the Fathers of Industrial, Grunge, Post Punk, Dark, Goth, what ever u wanna call it sound...

No Fuckin' 1 does it like JD!!!!!!!!!! PERFECTION!!!

  • What about Buddy Holly?

  • Your comment scared the crap out of me. I was just watching Everyday by Buddy Holly and then decided to watch this and yours was the first comment I saw "What about Buddy Holly?"

  • Dude, stuff like that happens to me all the time too ! It's weird 0_o

  • @karziflora

Agree with everything but grunge. The roots of grunge are in Hard Rock and Punk.

  • @karziflora Brilliant. RIP Ian Curtis. Your music will live on forever. People will forever be discovering it.

(PS I just did a JD binge and watched the JD doc, Control, and 24 Hr Party People in the last few week. All are great and bring back a feeling of the time/place

  • A much more agressive version as were all of the peel Sessions. One hears everyhing from funk - proto-rap in this.

  • Proto-rap? What? How old are you? 20?

  • 43 and I've forgotten more than you'll ever know about music, asswipe.

  • Translation, anyone?

  • forgettting wont do you any good will ya?

  • In English this time

  • incredible fucking song omg......... orgasm ahahahhha FUCK YESSSSS

  • what is a good singer? somebody who constanly who goes oooo ahhh in between songs which btw gets fucking boring. he had a monotone voice which isnt shitty for your info

  • Well, he wasn't Pavarotti, but I think he compensated for his modest vocal range with, um, the effective conveyance of emotion. Or something like that. I'm not a musician; ergo, I'm not in a position to damn or praise anyone who is and expect to be taken seriously.

  • Energy, a higher plane, poetry and the magic

of sound all captured in this song.

  • How do you describe a song or a band that was so far ahead of it's/their time? Visionary, Ground-Breaking? Neither do justice to the brilliance.

  • absolutely 6/5*

  • This song defines "kick ass!'

  • One of the best songs ever made!

  • better than the studio recording!

  • I dug out my copy of "Closer" and this song isn't on it, but the mix is miles better on the Peel session stuff. Ian's voice is up front where it should be, instead of buried in the instruments. I like to turn my music up loud and when I did that with "Closer," the sharpness just about made my ears bleed. I don't consider that a good thing. I still couldn't hear Ian's words as clearly as I wanted to. So I'm getting the Peel session CD and I thank the person who put them up.

  • the Peel session songs are all on the 'Best Of' compilation. Unless you have everything on CD1, it's probably worth going for that rather than just the Peel cd.

  • great guitar on this version
