I love this game and I played it a lot. And then I started playing UT and I loved that game even more. I'm just so happy that I now own these two games! (I never played UT until today, and it's amazing.)

this is still played by several thousands of people on a regular basis today, more than ten years after it came out. that's proof enough how ground-breakingly good this game is. together with ut, it founded a completely new fps-genre, different from your typical cs/cod shooter. very skill-intense, fast, hard, thrilling.

an absolute hall-of-fame game, 9/10, nothing less in my opinion.

if i'm somewhere else or at school and have nothing to do i play this on my netbook (i play unreal tournament 1999 on it too) they run at 30+ fps :P so very playable... (i am used to 60+ fps on my normal pc...)

First FPS I ever played and one of the best games I've ever played in my life.

I've probably spent more time playing this game than any other game.

Multiplayer is so much fun and incredibly addictive.

And yes, people still play Quake 3 online and I myself play it once or twice a year just to relive my childhood.

Funny how the UT series has had multiple sequels and NONE come close to the awesomeness of this. It's just so fast and fluid and doesnt have that overly generic drab look that ALL of Epic's games seem to embrace...

i played the demo and i thought it was generic, boring, everbody ran sooo fast you had no idea what waz happening, and weurst of all WHY DO U START WITH A HUGE MINIGUN that should be like the most powerful weapon. oh and the maps were boring

@drifter402 its a machine gun, and its very weak in comparison to the actual mini-gun in the game which fires like 20 bullets a second and packs a huge punch or the rail gun which is basically a OHKO.

but yeah, its best not to stick to the demo with this'n. the full version can at least allow for better multiplayer options, and there are more levels. plus, there is always a trick to each level, in order to win it with ease.

They should have just called this Quake Online, to get rid of the misconception that this game has any singleplayer-campaign.

This is exactly why I love Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It has a great singleplayer-campaign next to the multiplayer.

I ended up sticking with UT99 but still had great fun with this. Nice review.
