  • Yes suh! Bless you Recoil!

  • classic

  • listen to this all the time... its great stuff...

  • The track is from The Golden Gate Quartet who recorded Jezebel in the 30's or 40's. Louis Saint Juste is the actor singing in the video.

  • @proteanfix Not forgetting the incomparable Diamanda Galas singing over this also :)

  • wow, this music is so minimalistic and yet so meaningful O_o makes me shiver...

  • I wish Alan had written stuff like this when he was in DM.

His album subHUMAN is pretty cool

  • @verdigris1 He didn't have a chance, because Martin wanted to have full control of writing the songs.

  • Class, roll on May 13th, Camden Roundhouse, Short Circuit Electronic Music Festival!!

  • Check out Golden Gate Jubilee Quartet - God Told Nicademus

  • @Carsonduke1 fuck yes

  • Good

  • alan sos un capo unico

  • Recoil seems to me like the most expressive music at this moment, full of meaning, great sound

  • I bought this at the time. Reminds me of what Moby did around teh same time. Probably a connection as they're both on Mute.

  • @sonofsilence

    Correct! -:)

  • @sonofsilence They both sampled vintage recordings done by Alan Lomax. I think his recordings went royalty free back then.

  • Im go to broadcats dis sog on my cantri, zank yiu gays

  • This guy is better than Morgan Freeman.... what happened Morgan? Sleeper? :D

  • Does anyone here have "Jezebel (The Slick Sixty V RJ Remix)", maybe? If so, a PM would be lovely! Thanks in advance!

  • outstanding.

  • After listening the Jezebel, try to listen to Red River Cargo. it's like a Continuation... for my opinion of course. I love the sounds make by mr. emulator

  • groovy up2date instrumental + cool oldschool singing. great

  • 2 April Bucharest...see you there;)

  • 02 April in Bucharest. Gonna be there :)

  • ok..so I bought a ticket for Recoil Selected tour, because I felt guilty for not having recognized Alan at the RAH....and I hadn't listened to Recoil before...do I regret having bought the ticket? Hell no!!!! this is no DM, it's different...but I love it too...Alan proves he is a musical genius...

  • see them live 17 april, prague, juhhuuuuu

  • ¿¿¿Por qué este genio dejo Depeche Mode???

  • Ain't bad, but I don't find this similar to DM in anyway!

Maybe it has some parts that remind me of Get Right With Me but otherwise, this is completely new to me!

  • All hail the Golden Gate Jubilee Quartet.

  • ciekawy

  • SO SO SO awesome rythm makes you wanna moooove!!

  • this is the music more strange of the entyrly cd, even soo i liked it a lot...

    thank U 4 posting it....=)

reicol is my favourite cd 10 years now!someone beats me??eh eh.;)

  • Well stop, great God, stop there and listen, listen to the story bout Jezebel. Her sins were so wicked Jehovah got angry, her soul went leapin' and jumpin' into Hell.

    damn straight...

  • reminds me of moby's "run on"... i liek teh tune though

  • me too

  • indeed they're quite simular :S

  • absolutely brilliant

  • this song is great because is a really different way of electronic music. all days we hear "this is new electronic music", but this song is truly different, is unique.

  • no, it's not.

  • fm4 muZic!! YEAHHH

  • This song is a trip when your high

  • @ikopiko909 Like watching Pink Floyd's The Wall?

  • @ikopiko909 all songs from Recoil

  • @ikopiko909 This song MAKES you high.

  • @ikopiko909 high or not it's a god damn trip

  • i'm sorry to say,but i don't like it....it's toally diferent and ordinary,i should say really boring from Alan i used to listen in DM....

  • genious

  • einfach genial!

  • i love this song! and this is a very cool video

  • this is a truly great song!

  • @Painkilaxx you're listening to Recoil, not to Depeche Mode

  • and so?

  • AMAZING!!!.....I love Alan Wilder!

  • Thats a fuckin great song SCREW ALL YOU NAY SAYERS if you dont like if thats fine just dont go bitchin bout the person who wrote it id like to see you fucks do better

  • Alan Wilder is old news, Depeche Mode have moved on

  • This is very good. C'mon...

  • SOMEONE HELP ME. a while ago i saw i video on "edge to life" custom made. i cant find it any more nd it wa ace :( whers it gone.

  • I'm just starting to figure out how amazing alan wilder's post dm stuff is. It was a head scratcher back in the day but now I see how this arcs with the last dm record he did with them...and dm seem to be biters of his style with "jon the revelator."

This is complete opinion...much love to both camps and their admirable talents. Cool cats!

Does anyone know what he wrote in the sand at the end of the video? Is it "judge me?"

  • for some reason recoils stuff usually sounds a lot like Violator and SOFAD... just read an interview right after he left where martin said the reason alan had so much of the work load was because he made it that way by being a "control freak"....? anyway they're both good bands, who knows how DM would sound now if it was Dave or Martin that left instead of Alan, they're all pretty damn talented and seem to have the same tastes sound-wise

  • he should be thankful since Violator was the best CD they ever had.

  • i agree, but my fav is SOFAD!!! is very personal, brillant, a masterpiece.

  • This isn't Depeche Mode.

    They're an amazing band,

But not even in the same ballpark of Recoil.

  • really strong stuff, i like it!

  • wow.

    when was this song made?

    haha it's sweet.

  • Bien sûr.

  • I ended up here after wanting to hear the soundtrack for The Hole film. This is pleasantly surprising though. Very wierd video but now added to my favourites!

  • Raise his HAND creation tremble"...great track..the words in this song says it all "Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand ".

  • moby's version caleed run on or johnny cash's version of moby's run on keeps this track alive with a different flavor. this one is amazing as well

  • These are voices ofthe Golden Gate Quartet. Wilson, Willie Johnson, Clyde Riddic and Henry Owens; Jezebel recorded in 1948.

  • One of the best songs I've ever heard. This awesome, unusual voice makes it.

  • Alan Wilder is a genious, Amazing song, amazing video.

  • It looks like modern hip hop.

  • modern Hip Hop would be called Trip Hop, which was/is popular mainly in Europe(Trip Hop's homeland). This song has Diamanda Galas collaborating(she would have nothing to do w/ Hip Hop, and neither would Depeche Mode's Alan Wilder). At 3:20 there's a nice Tribal Rock solo. Lyrically it's a good *bash* on the dead god of Israel, Judaism, Chrstianity, & Islam ("... the WICKED Jehova god got angry... ...somebody had to die... ".
