love the song... my school's all girls sc did this and the moves were more african seeming to me and the words were not changed... great group though! i could totally feel the energy.
There are some songs that should just be left alone and kept as the original. This is one of them. The girls looked so awkward doing the choreography. I applaud the effort, but changing the lyrics to fit this particular group ruined the song. The original song was written for a specific purpose and to celebrate a specific group of people. This performance made me cringe...sorry!
Wow. I always thought the fastest way to make something hopelessly white was to have a marching band perform it, but this proves me wrong. At least a marching band wouldn't substitute "our time" for "Africa" .... but leave in the use of the African language :-D Don't get me wrong, these performers are fantastic and they're giving it all they've got. I just wonder how deeply Shakira would cringe if she saw this.
