  • I was stone faced when it began....I wiped tears from my face when it was over.

  • @Purpleflyer1 same here

  • no manly tears, no manly tears, no manly tears.....oh fuck it

  • war is hell

  • American got no heart we leave our kids behind. We need to take care of our children that we left behind before we take care of te rest. When i came here in the state i came with green card i am a citizen i should be a

Us citizen automatic but have to face racist

    People all over again.

  • WTF? I speak this language and I don't even have the slightest clue what the freak he's saying!?

  • people should stop bashing, most of these soldiers who fought were all drafted and didnt want nothing to do with this god awful war

  • THIS IS WHAT WAR DOES!!! Fuck any cunt who ever had a hand in starting or continuing one.

  • When the US invades Iran, suffers 60,000 casualties and they bring back the draft; I'm going to evade it.

How does that make you feel?

  • I'm a big guys guy and this made me get choked up. Damn.

  • I am not sure if this is healing for anyone but opens up old wounds. i applaud the Vietnam vet for doing this and it was a sad war for both sides and useless. I served with the 101st Abn Div infantry Camp Evans Hue Phu Bai 68/69. I think of the 59,916 young boys who died there and the families they left behind and what they could have become had they not died there.

  • Just makes you see the other side of war.

  • War is shit, poor soldiers.

  • wouldnt she be mad?

  • Rich died peacefully on November 6 2010 from natural causes. he was remembered by two comminities, one in which he raised a family in and one abroad which he had come to terms with.

  • i saw this years ago on tv. Wish the rest of the report is on here.Thats 1 badass soldier. Best story ever

  • Despite all of the cruel and negative comments this video got, I thought it was absolutely amazing and beautiful. Sadly it was a war, and people killed one another whether they wanted to or not. It took a love of courage and strength to do what he did. It gives me a lot of hope. It was amazing that he traveled all the way there to give her that picture and apologize.

  • All those Fucking Neocons and the other Traitors who Cheer lead for war, and NEVER fight themselves, should be forced to watch this, to let it sink home, the absolute futility and absurdity of their contrived wars in Vietnam ,Iraq, and if they get their way Iran.

  • Americans don't get it...if you go into a country as a soldier, you will be hated and people will kill you. But if you go as a respectful guest of that country, you will be welcomed.

  • @AccordGTR What the fuck does that have to do with Americans? That goes for every country that has ever gone to war..

  • @NeoTranshuman you don't understand...I was talking about US foreign policy. You went to Vietnam expecting to be loved because you "are fighting for their freedom". Well, looks like you were duped by your own govt since the Vietnamese people didn't appreciate your dividing the country..

  • @AccordGTR I fail to see how the US's reasons for invading Vietnam were any different from the USSR's decision to invade Afghanistan or the countless interventionists campaigns waged by colonial country's like France and England. Rather, I think you simply have an obsessive anti-US bias

  • This gave me chills.

  • Wow, this dude's actions would would send a ripple of positive energy through that vietnamese village. Good on him.

I mean, the war shouldn't have happened in the first place, but still... good on him..

  • What a man. He made a mistake and he came to apologize after so man years like a true man

  • Compassion and forgiveness. Take note, World.

  • fuck this made me cry.

  • at 3:36 i thought there was fly on my screen

  • u stupid freaking baby killer

  • This is the pure definition of redemption

  • i admire your courage . hope it will inspire others. dont wait untill is too late. it only show 's , human compassion.

  • Only those who are died have seen the end of war. Plato.

  • I am vietnamese and I cried...

  • @truthseeker0183 pity the human factor wasnt implemented before the murder ! and being against racism doesnt mean you have to love everyone lol

  • @endracismguy

Wow you are the king of trolls on vietnam war videos. JUST STFU do you devote your whole life and time to trying to ridicule the us soldier? preaching hate over forgiveness. wow man you must have no life at all...and it seems you have some wierd fascination with america for you to troll so hard...just STFU for everyones sake please your really fucking annoying. no one cares your just a troll fuck off pce and love douche

  • @truthseeker0183 its a joke that you all go overseas murder people then seek forgiveness give me a break before i gag lol

  • @truthseeker0183 there is always seeking forgiveness after the murder but it doesnt cancel out the fact that hes a killer and has to live with that fact

  • @endracismguy

Killer? .. It was a goddamn war and this video shows that this "Killing" was against his own will.

  • @Jockeboxing

    killer nonetheless

  • @truthseeker0183 really when was the last time vietnam invaded and shot up another country ?

  • Goddamn the narration ruined the video, less talking, more watching.

  • North Vietnamese troops killed a lot of my relatives in Hue. So, who will care for my uncle has killed by VC at Hue's Massacre 1968 ? This is a bullshit story.

  • Always a touching story. I have the hour long version of this video/film and it's an amazing story how the photo made it's way back into his hands after he left it at the Vietnam Veterens Memorial Wall in Washington DC

  • fucking murderer the whole of usa should grovel at the feet of this true peaceful nation

  • wow, almost made me cry

  • Richard A. Luttrell BORN: September 6, 1948

DIED: November 6, 2010 Peace. a good man.

  • crikey ,heavy stuff killing isnt as easy as they say ,if this doesnt affect u ,then your dead.

  • I wish I could give this 1 millions thumbs up.

  • What an amazing display of peace.

  • I fucking cried!

  • That shit was pretty intense... I'm sure he's glad he went over there and did that. I would be worried about her reaction to seeing me.

  • The letter is dated march 3 2000, yet there's modern day iraq footage afterwards. Wut.

  • Agree with you, Hmong.

  • this how we should all live, love each other instead of killing each other,

  • BEHOLD!! A pure example of a BRAVE man

  • I bet he felt pretty guilty :(

  • Made me cry, so emotional even with the dumb narration.

  • the vietnam war: one of the saddest chapters written in the history of man.

  • This is a very moving video, but the narration is absolutely fucking horrible. Poorly written, too much of it, and read like a fucking disney children's tale. Seriously he cheapened a truly moving story. I know their audience are idiots, but they have truly done this veteran a disservice with this despicable blight.

  • @pbl826 Narration=FAIL

  • GDI man, you're narrating a video, not writing a novel.

  • NBC really doesn't think much of us by giving THIS a narration.

  • What is important and what is not mentioned in the video is how he killed that man. Was it a combat situation or an execution or what? To me, that can change everything and makes the difference between a decent man or a man just feeling remorse for a crime, which isn't so special.

  • @hamidious exactly, they could have destroyed their small village or anything.

  • @hamidious

isnt the act of killing the same? since they all end up in death, for its a crime, even its in a firefight,or execution, killing is a crime you commite against others and against God.

  • this is incredible I didn't think i would cry.

  • I think what most people don't understand is how the Vietnamese refugees feel about the Viet Cong. They took away our homes and families, the way they treated the citizens of Sai Gon after they took it over was pure torture. Had America won that war, perhaps my grandfather would be alive today and Vietnam would have a brighter future.

  • The bravest thing he has done is not to kill his enemy but facing his enemy's family aftermath and reconciliation!!! This is really the Peace achieved!!

  • wow..I'm speechless...very touching

  • As a Vietnam War Veteran, i have loved the Vietnamese people ever since i arrived there 40 years ago. This video touches my heart deeply. May God bless the Vietnamese and all my fellow vets from the war. God bless this man and his new daughter and her familiy. May she find much joy in her "adopted" father.

  • Im not a cryer but I cried watching this. Damn I do admire that man for returning and facing the daughter. Now that took guts....and maturity.....and a big soul. Thank you for posting this.

  • i just cried.

  • this just made my day :)

  • I have a tiny bit more respect for Nam' veterans than WWII veterans because WWII veterans were "spoiled" when they got home with parades and parties waiting for them wheras vietnam veterans just come back with no celebrations at all.

  • it takes a lot of courage to do what this american soldier did , the video was very moving . the vietnamese people suffered immencely during the conflict years and this video symbolises more than what it shows. american regret and forgiveness from the vietnamese side. untimately compassion ,forgiveness and the human spirit triumps over everything else.

  • wow you have to have big balls to do this

  • Very touching story; my heart goes out to them.

  • Loved this Vid !

  • how many destroyed in the act of war itself? What are we to be stood in a line, dressed in a certain way. Armed and sent out by a man's word? How is it that we would believe that is so? If we saw a man on the street minding his own business, would it be in our heart to kill him?

  • Remarkable show of courage and desire to move on from the pain this veteran caused more than 35 years ago.

It was painful for both to remember things that only happen in war. He survived and had enough time to mend his past by getting the courage to ask for forgiveness from a small girl then. Wow...

  • Very touching, I cried my eyes out.

  • Man that's Powerful Viewing.

  • How Many lives destroyed by an unmeaning war! Where's the enemy? .. I'm just seeing people with the same pain. As always the enemy just existed on politicians' minds!

Thanks for share this video. I cried watching... It makes me believe in the future of humanity a little.

  • @rgbernardi

    Thanks, ditto....

  • they blew off charlies leg man WE WERE GONNA COME HOME AND START A BAKERY TOGETHER MAN!!!!!! ;(

  • This man has alot of guts to do this. I can't imagine the emotional turmoil he's lived with all this time. The politicians in Washington who sent him and thousands like him to Vietnam never had to face something like this.

  • Have compassion for all beings, rich and poor alike; each has their suffering. Some suffer too much, others too little.

    Buddha

  • @xenoc

no shit, that sounds right, where do you come from? You sound like an angel or something. I like your post. and forgive the "no shit" thing,....if you was God, I'da said "holy shit"

  • very touching story. i wish both the man and woman well in life.

  • @ElephantsFly93 were you the vet who killed the girl father, god bless and forgive you, you really make us cry.

  • Well, in war it's kill or be killed. I just feel bad for all those who died for a senseless bullshit war.

  • I dont feel bad for the woman at all, her father would have killed the American, had he had the chance.

  • @cpb20 He didn't.

" I was only eighteen years old that day that we faced one another on that trail in Chu Lai, Vietnam. Why you didn't take my life, I'll never know. You stared at me for so long, armed with your AK-47, and yet you did not fire.Forgive me for taking your life, I was reacting just the way I was trained, to kill V.C"

  • That vet is something special. That took a lot of guts to do that. All Nam vets I talk too never want to return there again. I plan to visit Vietnam in the future.

  • Wow! Very emotional video. He's a very courageous man. I hope he find peace after this trip.

  • Yeah, waiting 30 years to apologize, that takes guts.

  • Wow, that was emotional, made me cry.... :|

  • it takes a real man to face his fears and past.

  • i hope that that veteran has found his peace, as much as i like to see him trying to let go, im kinda ashamed that the cameras were around to belittle his release

  • Yes, you should be.

  • Horrible narration. Wow.

  • @anything545 the narrator is such an asshole

  • @anything545 Very true. The narrator sounds cheesy like he is narrating a kid's film.

  • The narrator really comes close to ruining the moment, sometimes saying nothing is the best option. The entire time, I was wishing I could just cut him out of the whole thing.

  • I agree ..He sounds like a narrator from happy childrens bed time story ...wrong place for that tone of voice

  • That would have been a lot better to watch without all the annoying narration. The video speaks for itself.

  • @f4kyutub he's 10 times the man you will ever be

  • Who will help heal their wounds>

How about the psychotic neoconservatives who rushed into war, and then fought tooth and nail to continue it indefinitely with no end in sight?

George Bush and Dick Cheney can pay for their medications and pschycologists.

  • This is a powerful Moment , but did it really need that intrusive voice over to over explain the emotional scene in front of us ???

  • I agree, it is a bit much.

  • It's like "How to say sorry for Dummies". Thanks for the retarded voice over. I would never have guessed what the dude was doing.

  • Dang I wish the commentator would shut up and let the moment happen! dang.. still incredible forgiveness...incredible grace

  • For real.

"SHE clutches him like HE was her father!"

    STFU

  • This is one of the reasons "young" men are sent to war. In their youth, they lack the ability to see beyond the face of their enemy. They are hardened by their experience; forced into a meat grinder where survival meant surrendering one's soul and abandoning one's morals in the attempt to return home in one fractured piece. We should have stood all of the political and religious leaders (both sides) against a wall and executed them before they could send another kid into another stinking war.

  • Excellent story. The amount of detective work must have been staggering for this reunion to take place.

  • There's two more parts to this report (this is the 3rd). They explain that a Vietnamese newspaper ran the story with the picture.

  • They're rich men's wars, but it's always a poor man's fight.

  • Damn, something in my eye...

  • Good chance that neither of these men wanted to fight, or even believed in any cause, but were forced to.

  • Jesus, this is too sad.

  • The World awaits the apology for all of the attrocities committed by imperial japan! With the amount of blood that still drips from the hands of the japanese, it's remarkable that you would condemn any other nation. Speak to China, Korea and all the other Pacific rim nations about the behavior of the jap imperial army. Then ask them about the role of the USA in liberating them from jap imperialism. You are a foolish, ignorant child.

  • No, you are incorrect: Many people misunderstand what "forgiving" means..

Definition: Forgiveness is typically defined as the process of concluding resentment, indignation or anger as a result of a perceived offense, difference or mistake, and ceasing to demand punishment or restitution.

Although it probably feels good to BE forgiven, it is for the benefit of the FORGIVER, not the forgiven. When someone is asking for "forgiveness" they are asking the giver to relieve themselves of THEIR burden.

  • Your comment was, eh, I dunno.

Thanks for the comment. Dunno why am thankin you man, was just really eh hmm.

You eh, lol I dunno what to say but just that your comment was nice ?? Decent ? Educational ? Just thanks :D

  • very powerful. Let us revered our spirtual humanity, and forget the politics of government, which divides us.

  • very very emotional , that's for what the US goverment have done

  • VERY emotional...this american veteran is a good man. willing to face his past enemy's daughter 30 something years later. hope after that visit she can have a better and happier life

  • Tears flowed down my face as I watched this video. This gentleman was so couragous and brave to face his enemy's daughter 30 years plus later. Peace!

  • @ncaliso

    me too man

  • @ncaliso ars flowed down my face also.. it's such a beautiful moment..

my grandfather also fought in that terrible heart aching war..

He was a vietcong a father a grandfather an uncle and he is my hero.. i will never forget him nor forget the stories that he told me about that terrible war. He was the nicest man i know in his eyes i can see the horror he has witness during his time yet he is as gentle as a monk. Taught me how to be a good human being and live to love not to fight.

  • No one like War, but in the Wartime, either you die or he die but it is good that you feel that way becuase it show that u r truely a human being. Don't blame youself.

  • This man is so brave and strong to be willing to go back to Vietnam and face this women. You are a very strong man. God bless you.

  • There are many haunting memories for those who served in Vietnam and no one knows exactly how he will react, nor what hidden memories will be resurected during a return to Vietnam. Thanks for posting the video. It's a wonderful part of the healing experience that is so important for most of us.

  • I cried tears while viewing this video. The emotions that everyone involved were very overwhelming. God bless them all.

  • i could never imagine to be in this man (or woman's) place...much respect for him going back though

i do not know what i would have done
