  • This song made me feel so attached to my little legions.

  • Other name - RTW Barbarian Invasion Theme

  • My soldiers are dead, the city sacked, its people enslaved...and I will have my vengeance.

  • Oh cruel fate! I dont know any of the people who died in this game but WHY DID THEY HAVE TO DIE! D:

  • The woman singing was indeed used in the soundtrack of ''Crash''. Look up CRASH SAFE NOW to hear it.

  • I love the beginning! And the middle and the end but especially the beginning :P

  • The happiest song for victory, the saddest song for defeat.

  • i remember i used to create custom battles to lose just to here this music. it just brings back some epic memories

  • It almost makes losing worth it.

  • Part of this track was most definitely used in the 2004 film Crash. Why would you call him uneducated for asking that? Terrible word to use...

  • what film was this song used in?!

  • @xJD94x It was never used in any film, but you are forgiven, as the uneducated can mistake its epiness for a film soundtrack....it was used in rome.total war

  • @Nebsie1 It was used for Crash but not the exact same song, just the woman singing.

  • This was in the movie crash.

  • @235RB Was it really?

  • Of ALL the pieces of music ever made in all of human existence, this is the one I wish was longer. Looking at the 100+ likes and 0 dislikes I think many of you feel the same way.

  • when i first this soundtrack i thought it was Hans Zimmer's work

  • just caved and got rome total war and wow I never thought it would top medieval 2 or even shogun 2 but it does. It is by far the best in all asspects except graphics.

  • @sgtbrown5 yea i know i think that rome and medieval 2 total war are the best for music especially.

  • i am the 100 likes and this soundtrack is my favorites !!

  • when Carthage and Antioch fell

  • the greeks are cunts, they beseige me... ask for a caesefire, then attack me next turn. douches...

  • @euan777 To quote that famous phrase "beware the Greeks bearing gifts" Hence why as Egypt I'm going to annihilate the Seleucids :)

  • This song played after I was beaten it was me 450 soldiers against 340 and 580 reinforcement. We killed the Greek king and a 5 star general and I had no friendly routes

  • thank you, this is exactly what i needed.

  • "There is no shame in fear, there is only shame in letting fear rule you...." The words of my general before an unwinnable battle against the Carthaginian King. I was just basking in the glory of taking over Africa, when he and his son come with 2 stacks of elite units and attacks me. I took both generals down before he could win. He slaughtered us all. But just after the battle, when the Scipii seemed brought to their knees, I saw that Carthage's family was killed in the battle and was crushed.

  • This is what happens when you hand your army over to a general called the A.I.

  • i think Rome: Total War is much better than Medieval

  • So epic to hear this in the begenning of the Barbarian invasion intro. Makes you think how the world could have been if the romans didn't get their asses handed. Well they were just trying to unite a great empire. Well i guess European Union is just a continuation of such an empire :D

  • i listen to this song more than anybody. i get my ass kicked on RTW online. but its totally worth it because of the song :P

  • Sometimes i loose on purpose just to ear this beautiful song.

  • @IllidanDAK I highly doubht that... but nice comment :D

  • i remember one of my generals gettin ambushed when he had no extra troops and this song played and im like this guys r gonna pay and i took all the troops i could and just slaughtered them (kind of like overkill)...it was so satifying lol

  • @SquaidsIHave That happened to me.... I was moving my Roman Faction leader from Lemonum to Alesia, deep inside my own territory, and this huge army of Gauls comes out of nowhere and slaughters him.

  • @14GloryofRome14 i hope he took at least 500 of them with him...i hate the gauls when i play RTW...they have many soldiers and pop up everywhere...

  • Comment removed

  • Interesting, never heard that one. :P

    (what a lie ^^)

  • I always had a moment of silence when this was playing :(

    Give me back my legions!

  • @Vidar447 I just lost in multiplayer and came here GIVE ME BACK MY ARMY sniff

  • Rome Total War had the best soundtrack of all the total wars

  • @SlyDessertFox nay, the best soundtrack of anything all time EVER =)

  • @SlyDessertFox Shogun 2 has a pretty gnarly OST.

But I Know the comment was posted 6 months ago. ;)

  • @zaccc Yeah, but I still do not think it is as good as Rome. They need to keep the Rome soundtrack for Rome 2

  • @SlyDessertFox Totally (y)

  • @FezzFix ye rome and medieval 2 by far better than empire and shogun 2 for music

  • @SlyDessertFox and medieval 2

  • @jackafa92 medieval 2 is second est =P

  • @jackafa92 *best

  • Rome Total War had the best soundtrack of all the total wars

  • Losing to freaking Gaul was painful enough, but when this plays after I see the scroll "defeat" across my screen I feel like killing myself.

  • only heard this 3 times on one of my campaigns, all 3 were heartbreaking :) sometimes my armies just couldnt live up to their invincible status

  • anyone seen the movie Crash? there are moments are the movie where the vocals, no sound just to vocals, from this are playing in the background. and i was like ``OH $HIT, they got that from RTW!!``

  • yep, used to hear this soundtrack a lot trying to take sparta

  • (sniffle)

  • VERY SAD SONG, BUT BEAUTIFUL IN THE SAME TIME!

  • sound like the song from crash

  • I played on hard so I heard this more then once :P

  • Good Karma (Haris C Remix), this is the trance remix of this song.

  • gives me chills every time ;)

  • thanks, 1 fav more in my list ;)

Very nice song, i've got goosebumps

  • although many have died, war.... war never changes

  • Jeff van Dyck are the best of the Total War Music-Authors

  • just imagine how many thousands are dead from all thous wars millions

  • one of the best on this game I didn't mind loosing a battle or 2 in a hundred so long as i killed the double of my army

  • one of the best on this game i didnt mind loosing a battle or 2 in a hundred so long as i killed the double of my army

  • And song called: "Lost Souls."

  • I love it!!!!!

  • This is actually a track from a movie called crash. the track name is Negligence.

  • @TheCauseTheEffect The original lyrics are from a piece entitled 'O Rubor Sanguinis', by Hildegard Von Bingen, composed during the 12th Century.

  • Beautiful piece of music, to bad its that short.

I lost some minor battles just to hear this :D

  • hmm i never heard this before?

  • I think this voice from second part is from Crash Soundtrack - Negligence :)

  • this is wat real defeat must sound like beautiful and sad

  • Every time I experience a defeat in real life or a game, this song plays in my head.

  • The only time I ever heard this song is when I failed to defend Macedonia because I only had 2 squads of hoplites and I was fighting an army of roughly 1000. Kiled 700 of their men however lol.

    Epic bottlenecking

  • @deathtax10

the old V formation at the gates trick? never fails...

well, sometimes if you're horrendously outnumbered.

  • i once defended a citie against 500 people with 3 squads of archers then 1 lost cause a unit of horses went around me and captured the flag for 3 minutes -.-

the brit dudes are so annoying their armies suck but theres so many of them and for some reason im always poor right now im at -7k

  • i can only picture my and my best friend going into the battle with our shields and swords then with this song in my head i can imagine him dying infront of my,killed by another soldier, damn those were tough times

  • when i hear it i think everybody dies

  • @guiguitexas this music is so calming 4 me

  • I conquest all map, but egyptians was very hard with their cars whith slices on the sides !

  • you mean chariots with blades on their wheels? you can easily kill them with philaox troops

  • Unless you're playing as Rome, which doesn't HAVE phalanx troops.

  • ye, and it's also annoying that if you leave them too long they conquer such a large area of land.

  • I'm very familiar with this song. after conquering carthage, spain, gaul, and all of western europe (Scipii), I went to war with the Romans and nearly lost all my territory directing my efforts on the Julii and the Brutii.

  • What faction are you? I play the Greeks and I started off with Rome when they weren't so powerful.

  • I was the house of scipii. I'm playing as macedon now. It's great, even the shittiest of hoplites make an awesome defence for cities.

  • You know it! haha

Hey can I get some feedback on strategy from you guys? Something that tends to happen to me when i'm facing Romans is that when I have my line of phalanx set up, the Romans often stay back and unload all of their missle ammo from spears and arrows at me. If I try to aproach them, but they just back off and fire more because they are faster, than my soldiers, and then my lines get disorganied. Any ideas?

  • @fofightersrock

you probably figured this out by now, but you want to harass their missile troops with cavalry while your phalanx approaches. like order all your phalanxes to line up close to the front of their lines, have them break apart and run, and then as soon as they're in formation put them back in phalanx. meanwhile you send some heavy cavalry behind them and hit their archers from the front with light cav if possible. once everything's in place, hammer meets anvil :)

  • ye, i play the greeks aswell, mainly becos i love them and i think alexander's empire shouldn't have fallen, or should have risen again.

  • It is called Lost Souls

  • type into youtube

    crash soundtrack negligence

  • What is the name of this?

  • Name of what? If you mean the game it is Rome: Total War... If you mean the song its just from the soundtrack... It gets played when you get your ass handed to ya. :P

  • @R0bai Lost Souls is the name

  • @R0bai Lost Souls-jef van Dyck.

  • @R0bai Lost Souls

    Rome Total War OST

  • @R0bai i lost many wars only to hear this lol !!

  • @R0bai

Lost Souls - jeff van dyk

  • it makes me cry ;(

  • Makes me think of all the times I lost in RTW. XD

  • this was in the movie crashhhhh..sweet song

  • This song is in the movie crash when the cop is pulling a black car to the side of the road

  • my best part is 0:26

  • this was in crash.

  • no...i lost a battle against 100 hundred men while i had 1000...i really did though (in rtw of course)

  • thats really going to tell u that u lost war or battle

  • yeah u mean the depressing part starts at about 0:18

  • this was in Slumdog millionaire..

  • No it wasn't!

  • in the part where the girl(or guy) idr is laying on the floor and the camera is panning away.

  • Well I have seen it 3 times and do not remember hearing it honestly. But if you are correct. Sorry then. But all I can remember is the song: Paper Planes, which is when they were on the train stealing food. And: Jai Ho, their own version of the actual song.

  • that is beautiful. what is this song called? Does it have a name?

  • i think its called defeat

  • beautiful??? its depressing listen to roman victory now that is beautiful

  • its beatiful because it can arouse emotions

  • total war is unlike any other rts. you actually feel the anxiety prior to and the sorrow/accomplishment after a battle

  • I think that this track epitomizes the destructive foolishness of war, and how it only serves to create more discord and sorrow.

Still, just a beautiful piece. Can't believe Jeff van Dyck uses MIDI's.

  • midis?

  • Computer software that sounds like actual instruments. Some people (like Jeff van Dyck and Jeremy Soule) have MIDIs that sound 99.5% like the real thing.

  • wow, MIDIs? Really? I want to know what Keyboards he uses then, and what recording / mixing software.........

  • I know that its a game and all but whenever I here this it gets me depressed and i flash back to my biggest totl war defeats. painful

  • Aww why isn't it longer? :( I really like this theme.

  • This music is so good I would sometimes deliberately lose battles to hear it (only small ones though)

  • When I hear this music I picture all of my men strewn along the ground, the city in flames...very depressing, yet deep song.

  • ohh this is soo awesome.. I could just sit there and glance at the screen when I lost a battle, and listen to the music. It really gets you in the sad mood!

Btw, anyone know where I can listen to the Victory and Defeat themes from Mediveal total war 2?

  • Ive never lost a battle so Ive never heard it before... (Cough...)

  • Haha! Thumbs up.

  • @Dabinuk lol...

  • @Dabinuk right.....

  • God this is just outright painful to listen to :(. All those good men died in defense of your civilisation, but it was to no avail. Must have been hard to see your own men dieing right infront of you as a General back then.

  • Unless all the General cared about was his own ass and material gains. Otherwise, yes, it must have been very painful to see. :(

  • @Doritosmoment "Back then"? Always has, always will be

  • @SpaceMarine2007 i think he might be talking about the times wen generals would actually go out and fight right along side the men they commanded, and would see everything their men saw

  • amazing music, so short yet so powerful

  • very beautiful.

    No comments for this song

    5/5 without problems.

  • this music comes when ur faction destroyed? Its sad...=(

  • no it comes when you lose a battle

  • Good music...
