I'm not so keen on the Data putting Worf in his place bit. I like how we have Word and Data, both strangers in a strange land, trying to be human, and both confronting duty vs freindship like that! AWESOME. I'm in the military so I may be biased.
I don't think that Commander LaForge would be a good choice for First Officer. He has seniority and experience, but he's an engineer and a damn good one. As Captain I would be more concerned with keeping the ship in top working order and as Chief Engineer, that's what Geordi does. If the ship got hit by a phaser or torpedo and it damaged the Warp Core or if anything else bad happened to ships systems, I would sure as hell want Geordi down there taking care of it. The ship comes first.
Worf was out of line, but he's not yet a command officer. He's temporarilly filling in for a role that is "above his pay grade" in experience. Junior officers frequently make mistakes of this kind. He just needs more time to grow in to his role.
Really? I think that is one of the best parts of the scene, particularly Worf's acknowledgement that it is his actions that had jeopardized their friendship.
Thanks for posting this! Ive been looking for this scene for a while now. I love that Data dressed down Worf and put him straight. I think thats pretty cool and shows data has the ability to lead,command and be respected as captain.

There are many shows in which the characters degrade into caricatures of themselves over the course of the series. In TNG, it was just the opposite.
