I think Fairly Odd Parents is the best of example of what JesuTako was talking about on how parents are usually portrayed in kids shows, when Timmy's when are going off and neglecting him they are usually total morons.

Ahh dear god this reminds me of growing up with the german dub (even though i grew up nowhere close to germany but thankfully had satellite acess :3 .....dear god did i love that show . Thanks for the wonderfull retrospective :D

I've watched this in a different dub than the ones you did and frankly that dub was bad ass it did justice to the original japanese dubs

Pokemon was one of the first anime i had (unknowingly) ever seen, had bored me to death. Even though it was better than how it currently is now, there wasn't much character development, relateable situations,or interesting circumstances. I loved the animation and look of digimon more than pokemon & would have never known of its budget!

Digimon would never be a rip-off of pokemon and will always be a timeless classic.

I'm planning to buy the first season to watch it with my sister. :D

Digimon is sort of the black sheep of the popular US kids anime. Not only for its writing, but the way it thrived. Pokemon continues to survive mostly because of its videogames which is what the show is based on. Yugioh's the same way. But the origin of Digimon; the electronic pets didn't last long in the US and the show was more of a stand alone that didn't rely on its source much for popularity (at least where I lived.) So from my perspective it didn't seem to depend on its merch.

i am almost 28 so i was older when this came out but i still remember watching it and still have the movie on vhs but a look around to try and find the dvds or vhs of the first ones and the ones of them older i can only find them on ebay and amazon for a lot of money and something called the data squd do you know of some place that sells them besides what i said?

I watched both Pokemon and Digimon growing up, I had alot of merch for both as well. But Pokemon eventualy bored me as I got older, but Digimon's story kept me watching. Digimon wins.

By the way, I'm guessing Digimon Frontier was the exception to the villain algorithm? Because I remember its villain count being low, being introduced upfront, transitioning very naturally and introducing new enemies as continuations of what was introduced early on rather than being separate identities (except for that one episode, but that was a weird and silly filler.) In other words, it made the most sense. >_>

Yeah, I am most definitely looking forward to seeing more of this review series. You have done an excellent job with these reviews; seeing as how I distinctly remember most of these episodes, not to mention the imprint of my palm on my face now, I was entertained from beginning to end.

yup, still chills from the digivolution scene. yay garurumon! amuses me how many of those voice actors turned up in transformers robots in disguise doing practically the same voices about a year later. gotta love jeff nimoy. badass priest? nope, small bug thing :D
