Sorry it took so long to reply. I do not have a dog and Kia has never been around a dog. I've had her since she was a hatch-ling, about 8 yrs. ago. I don't think I heard a barking sound tho.......

Thank you for your kind words.Tips here; Talking is about communication. How would you teach a parrot to talk then? Think about how children learn, they hear you say things as you are doing them. When you come in to see them you could say, "Hi pretty bird or Hi. there"

When you give them food you say, "Mhmmm, good food! Is it good or something in an excited happy voice, also be patient and love em even if they never talk. GOOGLE the phrase TEACH A PARROT TO TALK for more tips.

She is a Yellow Nape Amazon. They have very outgoing personalities, loud, like to sing and they like music, fun people and being around some one who is fun loving and will sing to them and dance. (at least that's my experience/opinion)

Keep working on it, be patient and whenever you are really happy and upbeat and say something in an excited way, they pick up on that and they will repeat it. Be consistent. be kind. Have fun with it!

okay :) so just another question how long should i clip my parrots nails??

I never clip my parrots nails, nor do I have them clipped. I purchased a cement perch and placed it higher in the cage then the other perches. They will get on it at night and they rub their beaks and toe nails on it, It keeps them perfectly conditioned and yet they still have access to diff. types of soft and or wooden perches as well, They need a variety of perches and one should be a "conditioning or cement type" perch. Hope this info helps!

Yes you should be able to pick up on it at a petstore such as Petsmart. BTW, I accidentely hit remove instead of reply & I apologize. I welcome your questions & I like to share my knowledge. i'm not saying that I'm an expert, because I've only had parrots about 10 years (I got my first parrot in 1999) but I think having different viewpoints/opinions is helpful. Try purchasing the cement/concrete type perch & place it slightly higher than your birds favorite perch & see if he takes to it.

Kia is definitely mnot the cuddly fluffy bird, at all, lol. She is quite a perch potato (at only 7 yrs. old, too) and rarely comes out of her cage when I try to coax her out. She even growls at me, but that's just her personality. Maxi, my african grey companion is much more amiable and manageable. Maxi is the "kissy bird" and she always asks me for one.
