It's reasonable to imagine Big Bang events being something recurring. I think it makes sense to assume black holes will continuously consume more and more mass, perhaps incl. other black holes and dark matter, it's likely that at some critical treshold the gravity breaks down rapidly causing the Big Bang to occur. Perhaps two black holes merging will create such rapid effect.
well, personally i find it way easier to believe an intelligent being created the Universe rather than a random explosion which has a calculated evolutionary probability of a micro dart being thrown clear across the universe and hit a bulls eys 1 mm in diameter.

I would go as far to say that much of the western world's moral foundation came out of the Bible.
But as things stands now, human moral is not relying on the Bible anymore and you can easily find much better moral in less faithful countries. E.g. Sweden has >80% not believing in God and much much better moral and lower crime statistics than the very religious USA.
But even Sweden got it's moral foundation from the Bible.

One of the names for God in Judaism is Elohim, which historically has been used in reference to a pantheon of gods seated under the patriarch god El, another name for God in Judaism. Which, fyi, is actually once or twice removed from Jesus' god.

Man did not evolve from a monkey. How can that be when we live side by side with the ape. Yes, the facts of science are generally carefully well investigated with experiments proving the theories.
Science is what makes our world what it is. And if God had any influence on any of all the observations we do in science, we would see discrepancies in areas such as computer science. While it's making sense that very basic simple physical rules could exist without a creator, it makes absolutely no sense that some intelligent creator himself could come out of nothing.

Several theories exist.
It's reasonable to imagine Big Bang events being something recurring. I think it makes sense to assume black holes will continuously consume more and more mass, perhaps incl. other black holes and dark matter, it's likely that at some critical treshold the gravity breaks down rapidly causing the Big Bang to occur. Perhaps two black holes merging will create such rapid effect.
Other theories exist.

drahken9034, intelligence has been part of the process of natural selection. Humans with superior intelligence have had better chance of survival when finding food, in battles etc.
Gradually traits for higher intelligence have been winning through millions of years of evolution.
Even today...things happen...example...people who drive poorly die more often in traffic. Over 1000s of years humans will evolve towards safer/better driving skills, unless computers will drive for us some day :-)

Yes, that is also one of my many problems with being religious...you can deal with these things superficially but as soon as you dig into it with an analytic mind, nothing makes much sense.
To make something as complex as an intelligent God would require an even more intelligent Super God to "create him"...and here we go...an infinite chain of ever more intelligent Gods becomes the theory...QED...A God just makes no sense when you really think about it. Or maybe evolution made God ;-)

I'm very disappointed that God did not stop the second world war that Hitler motivated in the name of God.
I'm also very disappointed that God made all the diseases, hunger, natural disasters, wars, terror, weapons etc.
But I'm happy I have everything I wanted even I never prayed, so thanks for that.

i don't know all the answers but couldn't it be that because of the war many cried out to God in their distress and sometimes its only in distress that people cry out to God! i heard the churches were full with people praying ,their faith in God increased even though God didn't want the war, in the light of eternity what is time on earth
i don't believe God made diseases, hunger, nd wars terror - these are results of the fall , man ,the world and the devil

well thats an objective assumtion. Based on thoughts on a personal level. existence, and belief for that matter is an individuals perception, not the majority, or in better terms, joe blow. Quite like myself, and many others, god is totally not imaginary. God is everything perceived from any of our senses. God is Consciousness, self awareness and thought on a personal level. God is why the 2 single elements every human beings need to survive on this planet(oxygen and hydrogen) are able to exist.

RevalationAlpha, You can put a label on many things current and in the past and claim them to be something of a God. It just clearly seems like our nature follows strict mathematical rules rather than the outcome of a God's thought processes. It would be fair to imagine that a God would do things we can not link to rules in physics, chemistry etc.
For example, we never see God altering any data flow in any of our computer systems, incl. Youtube :-)

Because the "nature of God's magic" depicted in the Bible are not consistent with our laws in physics simply speaking.

The bible? Do you know how many cultural ideas and conceptions exist in the bible? The length of time the writing covers? That doesn't sound fair at all.

jjmckool, I actually do agree on the cultural values of the Bible.
I would go as far to say that much of the western world's moral foundation came out of the Bible.
But as things stands now, human moral is not relying on the Bible anymore and you can easily find much better moral in less faithful countries. E.g. Sweden has >80% not believing in God and much much better moral and lower crime statistics than the very religious USA.
But even Sweden got it's moral foundation from the Bible.

Well, any nation that has a common worldview or belief structure will do better with things like crime; whatever that may be, whereas the US is very adamant about individual expression, it's built on that, so you have variance.

jjmckool, well, to be frank, there is quite a clear trend between religion and corruption and crime statistics.
It looks like per nation that the more people are deeply religious the more corruption and crime you find.
In the USA it is also found that Christians are significantly more prone to go to prison than people who don't believe in God.
And then we have divorce rates:
Jews: 30%
Born again Christians: 27%
Other Christians: 24%
Atheists/agnostics: 21%

But I think you misunderstand my point. The bible is not one book, it's a collection of evolving ideas, containing everything from Cannanite mythology to Sumerian legends. Hell, there are two separate creation accounts in Genesis. One of the names for God in Judaism is Elohim, which historically has been used in reference to a pantheon of gods seated under the patriarch god El, another name for God in Judaism. Which, fyi, is actually once or twice removed from Jesus' god.

It's really an awesome God when he could take care of so many virgins...
Gosh this Bible is so sick I can't comprehend people even want to touch it.
Oh by the way, latest news in evolution is a new theory: "Hydrogenated diamond advances to the best of all possible origin-of-life platforms". The theory is the Aug. 6 issue of the American Chemical Society's journal Crystal Growth & Design.

What kind of idiocy is that? Num. 31:31-40 describes the spoils of war, the animals, things and people that were captured by Israel, 32,000 of them were virgins. Then it names the offerings from such, of which 32 virgin women were dedicated to the service of Lord. If you read the rest of the law, you will see that this service was taking care of the temple and serving meals. Nice how you rip sections right out of context to mislead others.

Some things on numbers may be lost in the translation. Numerology is important in
Hebrew, but translater sometimes have trouble
(so I have heard) translating words over numbers when nubers are mentioned as such at all. Also number like a thousand can simply mean the largest number they could imagine as a trope for great numbers.

Originality in all stories of the Beginning of time would lesson credibilty not increase it, because this is would be a shared orgin. There would be details no one would have seen to the exten that some of the creation preceeded human kind, but beyond that one would expect stories to be shared. In the case of Hebrews they do not even claim to have their covenant until Abraham, so their exclusive coventant begins ling after humanities story has begun.

Yes, absolutely...the Bible is the sickest book I've read...especially the Old Testament that is an important part of the Bible and the foundation of Christianity.

Yes, the bible does say Adam was the first human being, but the bible was assembled and edited by the Saint James committee, so whos to say that wasn't just throw in there. And let us also bring up the thing about if there is a god, who created him, and so on up. Everything has to start somewhere. Not trying to be an ass or anything, because i believe that people have the right to believe in what they feel is right, i just wanted to say my side.

I don't believe in evolution anyway. Adam was the first human being (said in all holy books in dif languages). We weren't around when the so-called neanderthals (merely humans) lived, we can't just say they didn't know about God. I don't really care about the idea of religion coz it's been misused after all and I admit that I don't know everything, it seems you do my friend. Thanks for the reply.

Maybe that's ur test Maybe God lifted his hand off u bcoz u're nt a believer n will give u something gd now, but not after u die (which is more important n eternal) I'm nt religious but believing in God is what matters the most, n that's what holy books r trying to tell us. Don't believe in written text? look at urself. Can u control ur internal organs? we're only limited to what we can control n see using our 5 senses...
