Good try. Think of all people as actors. To break the social norms you have to subject their performance to a breakdown. To truly break a social norm, there cannot be a script for the situation; people cannot be sure what to do next. If the person continues on as if nothing unusual is happening then they're still using a script to make sense of the situation. When someone starts to question the reality of their own situation then you've successfully broken the social norm.

Annoying is what it is! Try asking them how their day is going, that would be braking the social norm. Actually holding a conversation for more than two minutes is tough for alot of people.
