You're playing this game on the Dreamcast, that's your problem with the controls. Not that they were perfect on the PS1, the DC's fugly controller is missing buttons which this game needs. The series hit a highlight with this release among TRUE Tomb Raider fans. It focused once again on tombs for the vast majority of the game and is quite hard and challenging. A sign when games of the day challenged the player with clever level design, can't say the same for Tomb Raider today.
I only got my Dreamcast a week ago and this came with it, I played it for the first time today and all I can say is the controls are a fucking disaster zone. I never got past the rope swing just after the end of this video it was just too much.
man u suck big time.why dont u go play tetris?tomb raider the last revelation is the greatest in the tomb raider series.i used to play it on psx, dreamcat and pc.a nd dreamcast version is much better in all the ways than psx.the pc is of course the best.but it suks that lara has her own sheadow only on dc version.onpc and psx not.but pc has has the coolest graphics.im playing it just now after some years on my full hd monitor and it still rocks
Based on a lot of the written reviews that I've seen, most people say the PC and PS1 versions are the best (the PC gaining the highest scores). Personally I don't like PC controls, so I never buy them. I have the PS1 and Dreamcast versions of this game and to be honest, despite the Dreamcast version having the worst reviews, it's essentially the same game but with better graphics than the PS1 version. I'd recommend the Dreamcast version out of all 3.
@SuperhumanChichi thanx man. i think the reason why the dreamcast version was scored the lowest is cause it came out after the ps1 and pc version, therefore critics had already played the game & didn't give a shit, aw well. also what version of tomb raider chronicles would u recommend i get (i heard the pc version has god-aweful bugs so unless it has an update forget it)?
Actually, I think it started with the first game. It was rubbish. Second game was tops, third game was even more of a floater than the first; 4th and 5th were boring, AoD was oke; Legend was brilliant.
All the Games were good from Tomb Raider 1-6 ...After they gave the game to Crystal Dynamics, it Terribly Sucks now! I still want to know what Happend to Kurtis in TR 6 & i want to learn more about Von Croy. & Tomb Raider 1-6 all felt like they were happing right after another....in 7+8 why do they keep tlaking about the Plane Crash that already Happend in Tomb Raider 1. & how they Used the House from the Movie..yeah EPIC FAILURE Crystal Dynamics. You have made Tomb Raider another lame Game.
They don't jitter as much and they are at a higher resolution. Still, very, very disappointing for the DC. The game looks terrible and still manages to fuck the framerate up.
And besides, THIS GAME WAS MADE IN 1999. Of course the textures are godly. The TR series went downhill after TR:AoD, which was released 4 years after this was released, so don't say this game sucks. Last Revelation is purely Tomb Raiding, so it isn't really lame. Idc about this game not having cutting-edge graphics, I love it to bits, because of what happens throughout the game, the setting, level design, the puzzles, Lara's character, and the soundtrack.
Tomb Raider went downhill after TR2. The third one was okay but was harder than it should have been due to limited save points and TR4 was decent at best. It was more or less a moderately improved version of TR1 with the same type of exploration aspects. Chronicles however was horrible and Angle of Darkness is by far the worst in the series. TR:Anniversary, Legend and Underworld were all fairly good games.
Are you calling this game lame because you suck at remembering the control keys? There, go to one of them 2 menus, game settings, and then you can choose any of three control configurations that suits you the best. You're just spoiling your fun by whining about the control methods; games always have more to them than this. I've not played a single game (yet) that does not have less than 4-5 control keys (jump, attack, grab an item etc.) - you will get used to those.
I played alot of tomb raiders in my day...but i only beat tomb raider 2...the tank controls were to shitty for my liking but i picked up the anniversary edition on ps2 and that was great..... but i got bored and traded it in after about a month
I picked this up from Dixons way back in the day for 49p... it was a great time to scavenge on what was left of the DC catalogue. However, the control method rendered the game completely unplayable for me. It's not often I pay less than 50p for a game and still feel ripped off. Sufice to say it's no longer with me
What about retrogaming? I really don't see the DC as being "retro". For me, retrogaming stops at 16 bit. DC is only about 10 years old, and is certainly no different than modern gaming.
It's not so much years as it is styles. Switching to 3d changed gaming fundamentally and made the games much different, changed the controller and changed gaming. Also, with companies like MS and Sony getting so heavily involved in gaming, it's turned into the movies where every game is the same and follows an exact formula for mediocrity.
retro gaming is all in the mind man. The DC is a dead system, it's a decade old. That's retro. Retro means different things to different people and you're never going to please everyone's idea of retro. I should know, I've been running RG for other 3 years now.
@RetroGamerDaz Of the five original Tomb Raiders released ('96-'00) Tomb Raider (4): The Last Revelation was my least favourite, TR 1 was my favourite with TR 3 being a close second.
i have seen a few dreamcast reviews from you of 'poor' games. What about games that made the Dreamcast worth buying! I bought a Dreamcast, but have played no games on it as I don't know which are the best. I never liked Tomb Raider, in my experience you would spend ages trying to figure out which wall you can climb on.
Like Tomb Raider, the first couple were the best, still want to play the latest one though. TR was ment to be like a female version of Indiana Jones, best when they focused way too much on her being this sex symbol it all went down hill for this series, the focus should have been on the gameplay and adventure.
I thought this was a good game. I agree with most and think Angel of Darkness was the down point. The controls are the same or better than the ones before it? I remember getting this on release and loved it. These games have all not aged to well and I agree that the 1st game was amazing... Nice video, makes me wanna play them all again cheers ;o)

you're right, it's not a terribly poor game, but you are terribly poor at this game. I think you'd better stick to Mario 64, mate.
